The Court Current issues in the city of Toronto include homelessness, food insecurity, financial instability, and the lack of resources in many lower-income communities. Co-op housing is being replaced by highly valued skyscraper buildings. Technology and innovation advance and modernizes. Rent becomes inadequate for small business owners. Residents are being pushed out of their homes. With current real estate proposals and the near economic recession, living and being become nearly impossible. This ongoing change in communities, explains gentrification. Gentrification, commonly viewed through a negative lens, is bound to happen; it is inevitable. To what extent, can gentrification be balanced, supporting the needs and wants of all in the community through architectural programming and design. This thesis investigates the role and effects of gentrification and the urban renewal of Scadding Court Community Center and Alexandra Park. To achieve greater social engagement within the community, the space will feature a series of functional programmes by which members can interact with the interior, exterior, and themselves. This is a proposal to redesign this community hub; a space giving back to the city, the original residents, and the new wave.

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT
This re- envision moves forward with the original mission of Scadding Court, featuring a new modern wing with relocated and refurbished amenities. The renovation does not neglect the old, instead, it embraces it with the new. In the present, this design proposal attempts to bring back the liveliness with a new name, new community, and new features, all while maintaining all original and existing elements.
This is primarily a renovation project with the re-location of present elements and programmes as well as expanding a new modern wing. Design Priorities: - Creating an accessible space that is reachable by all sides of the building. - Relocation of Market 707 to open up Alexandra Park. - Zoning 3 primary functions of the space. - “Holding” the community in an atrium that is open. - Designing a transparent glass facade that is also respective to privacy and the seriousness of programmes. - Interior design that is not pretentious but alsomodern; equal and balanced design.

INTERIOR RENDERS & FINISHES
Considering those coming to this building, whether it is a child, someone who is homeless, or someone on total different spectrum, it was important that this space is not overly pretentious in design. Designing with balance is crucial for a community space by which targets all groups of people.

Design Intent This hotel project focused heavy on the concept of exploration, fun, and play within the busy city of Downtown Toronto. 460 King attempts to translate the layered and multi- faceted Downtown Toronto through itʼs programmes, circulation, and design. 460 King West is a heritage building protected by the city of Toronto. All faces, other than the West elevation, remain untouched in the redesign of the building. This project focuses on heritage and the preservation of history despite moving forward with modern twist.
