The topic for academic year 2015/16 deals with the typology of a minimal living unit for one person. Revisited this prototypical architectural task within new spatial, structural and functional possibilities of robotic fabrication. Multi-story structure with a spatial connection between levels enabling a flexible use of the unit. The unit is intended only for temporary use, but capable of protecting user of harsh weather conditions. 9

The living unit is about 40m2 and accomodate a space used as a shelter. It is ability of robots to manufacture and assemble in three dimensional space, which could enable to create spatially constructred volumes with a high degree of customisation to personal needs and adaption to local avaibility of material and conditions. 4178, minimal living unit, is located in ETH Campus and design is inspired by the site: orientations, openings follow the natural sun-path during all the seasons, giving a unique shape to the small building.

underground Re-USE tutor: prof.ing.arch. Salvatore Russo prof.arch. Aldo Aymonino prof.arch. Giosuè Boscato The brief of ‘undergroud Re-USE’ was to transform the underground spaces of the Saint Elmo Castel in Naples, plus its water-cistern. Firstly was request (by Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities) to analyze sismic reaction of existing structures, and after that to formulized a proposal for re-using this undergound spaces.

24

“Castel Sant’Elmo is a medioeval castel, today uses as museum, it’s located on Vomero’s hill, in Naples (Italy). Once upon a time it was named as ‘Paturcium’, built where since X century was Saint’Erasmo church (from Eramo to Ermo and finally Elmo). This massive building (the biggest in Naples), grow up from rock (yellow turf of Naples). For its unique defensive position, during the years the castle was a very attractive war objective: from its position (250 m s.l.m.) is easily possible to control all Naples, its gulf, streets from and to the other cities.” 25

“...the city of Naples was like this: wonderful from a distance, but when seen close up, it was fragmentary, indefinable, and coarse...” - Franco Di Mare, The Paradise of the Devils

“Naples is the flower of paradise. The last adventure of my life.” - Alexandre Dumas

very year since 2000 the Serpentine Gallery has commissioned a temporary summer pavilion by a leading architect. The series presents the work of an international architect or design team who has not completed a building in England at the time of the Gallery’s invitation. Each Pavilion is completed within six months and is situated on the Gallery’s lawn for three months for the public to explore.

KAN - K29 team-leader: arch. Tom Keller Zurich - 2016 As a replacement for a double family house on the left bank of Lake Zurich A compact four-story apartment house. The not very easy location between SBB and Canton Street is compensated by the stunning lake view. Massive parapets and retracted loggias determine the external appearance. Nine smaller apartments through organize such a common staircase that all apartments benef it from both south-facing loggia as well as the view over the lake to the north. Two-storey rooms, galleries, open stairways and loggias retracted convey despite a generous living.

s part of the study is to order for the school and sports buildings at Arenenberg an architectural expression be formulated, which the building and the place in the overall context does justice. This raises the question how the house on a reasonable true to scale its facades can be better integrated in the sensitive context. Situated on the historic axis from the east impressed the angular structure, the main access to the castle and Seminar Hotel and impaired the spatial situation in the eastern part of the park. Starting point is for us a “homogenization of the design elements. To take his identity be attempted with precision interventions creatively enhance the appearance of the school and tract characterized the major building complex on the east side more attractive.

CSP team-leader: arch. Andrea Battistin The transformation of this small apartment is accomplished through simple and targeted interventions. The new resin floor and the white walls make up the scenic backdrop on which stand out the library and the multi-function base of the ladder, all in natural birch plywood. The scale is the sculptural object of stay and the result of the overlapping of two metal sheets connected by steel prof iles shaped. The interior layout has been slightly modif ied compared to the original situation. The narrow niche that served as a dining room has been transformed into a place of reflection of the house, like walking into a shop of music: CD, vinyl and collections of books line the walls of this small space. Upstairs the demolition of one of the walls of the stairs, you can enjoy the double-height living room so that you can watch from the beams of the upper floor.

“A mobile system that could adapt and reconfigure to different events and applications in the store, and offer something more than the traditional hanging rail on wheels or wall system. Inspired by the simplicity of simple black line drawings, and how these lines can communicate three dimensions, the series of shapes play with the sense of spatial and volumetric perception.

#05 project proposal

“In seeking a reconciliation between infrastructure and territory it is precisely the notion of landscape that should be culturally reworked in the new postmodern scenario, if we want to overcome the attitudes of pure mediation that limit themself to pursing a reductive objective like that of insertion Our project has developed from this idea. The site in question has been created by the urban grid of NY, a rectangle generated from the intersection of 10th Avenue, 18th and 19th Street and Highline. A particular area that interacts with its surroundings in different ways according to the share to which you refer. The project generates on two levels: the first is functional to the street level and the current use of the area as open parking. The base provides ample parking on multiple levels which ensure and boost the previous function of the area in question. The second level is generative given by the director which is the Highline. Most skyscrapers are living organisms, teeming with life, however, relegated to the inside, closed buildings that do not interact with the environment around them. Our project is a porous volume, which binds firmly to the Highline merging with it through an extension of the same that develops inside the building as a spiral, going to generate spaces always different and points of observation posts at different levels. The level of Highline generate retail space, research laboratories and development until the end of the path on the large terrace with views of the same Highline and the Hudson river. The building ends with the last two levels acting to residential space. The trail leads into the building, creating a physical and visual link with the surroundings ensuring various resting places for a visual connection to 360 degrees with the outside while maintaining a strong relationship with the interior spaces with which interacts in a physical manner. The outer blades sunscreens made in a vegetable fiber embrace and hugs the perimeter of the building in a parallel lines. From a distance the building looks like a dense and closed volume; close at hand, what seemed a compact mass open up to reveal the space inside but not clearly, inviting to come in, walking in the same Highline that become one with the building, becoming the building.
