Virtual Laboratory Training and Career Center Laboratory Training, Career Recruitment and Promotion in 3D Virtual Worlds "Real to Virtual; Virtual to Real" in the Lab The “Virtual Laboratory Training, Career Recruitment and Retention (VLTC) Project” is the ongoing real life to virtual worlds ("Real to Virtual; Virtual to Real") integration of clinical laboratory training; information sharing; and laboratory career development. The virtual-based project known as the Virtual Laboratory Training and Career Center includes Ms. BugLady’s Micro Lab (STI laboratory training), "Ms. BugLady's Lab Career Centers I/II" (medical lab career development and recruitment), and related components. The Virtual Laboratory Training and Career (VLTC) Center was developed and is managed by STI Laboratory Consultant/Instructor, Sally S. Cherry, MT(ASCP) dba Cherry Consulting Network. The "in-world" constructions and collaborations are coordinated by several 3D avatars… Sally Cherry (Kitely), SarVana Haalan (Second Life) and Sarvana Cherry (JokaydiaGRID). Since 2008, usability research and program development for the “Virtual Laboratory Training, Career Recruitment and Retention (VLTC) Project” has been an ongoing process within several virtual-based environments including Metaplace (2D), Second Life, and OpenSim (Kitely, OSGrid, and JokaydiaGRID). With the shutdown of Metaplace in 2009, the VLTC Project was re-established in Second Life with the assistance of the 3D avatar, SarVana Haalan. In 2011, the hands-on laboratory was built and launched in CherNetiva located in JokaydiaGRID, an OpenSim grid. In 2012, various components of the VLTC Project were relocated to Kitely, another OpenSim grid which is actively used by universities, small businesses and several Fortune 500 companies. Currently, the VLTC Project headquarters, STI Laboratory Training Center, Community Health Technology Awareness Resource Exchange (CHeTARE) Project, Community HIV/AIDS Resource Exchange (CHARE) Project, and other support components are located within the Kitely community. With the recent relocation of the VLTC Project in Second Life, a virtual classroom known as "Ms. BugLady's Lab Career Center II" has been established within the Cyber STEM Academy through an invitation by a Maryland-based company, Immersive 3D, LLC. The laboratory career development and recruitment component will be accessible to high school students, teachers, parents, and medical professionals interested in pursuing or promoting a career in laboratory science.
