2. JOB PURPOSE : To contribute to security and stability in mission area by assisting the parties to the conflict, in consultation with all stakeholders and partners, with the design and implementation of a national DDR programme.

3. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Assist in the development, implementation and evaluation of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration activities Monitor and analyze specific aspects of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration activities; Review relevant documents and reports; Identify and track follow-up actions; Carry out basic research on DDR related subjects, operations and other activities; Assist in the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. on DDR related issues; Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc; Perform any other duties as directed by supervisor(s).

4. QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Bachelor’s University Degree in Political Science, International Relations, International Economics, Law or similar fields.


5. EXPERIENCE At least 7 years work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or 3 years work experience with a Master’s degree in a related field with Government, NGO, think tank, or similar multilateral, regional or international institution

6. SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES REQUIRED

Ability to work closely with governments, NGOs and multi-lateral institutions in complex political affairs, peace and security undertakings.

Computer literate and well versed in the use of the Internet, Power Point, Excel and Word.

Peacekeeping experience or with the military highly desirable

Ability to conduct independent research and analysis, identify issues and recommend solutions

Excellent negotiation, communication and representation skills

Knowledge and understanding of DDR issues;

Ability to work in a multicultural setting

Must be prepared to work in a hardship context and highly pressurised and sometimes hazardous environment

AGE REQUIREMENT: Candidates must preferably be between 25 to 35 years old.

8. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT : Proficiency in the mission language xxxx. Knowledge of other working languages would be an added advantage(English, Arabic, French and Portuguese). 9.

Develop, implement and evaluate disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration activities; Monitor and analyze specific aspects of disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration activities; Review relevant documents and reports; Identify problems and issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; Liaise with relevant parties; Identify and track follow-up actions; Research on DDR related subjects, operations and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources; Monitor, assess and analyze the political situation as it relates to DDR within assigned area of responsibility; In consultation with the Head of the DDR Division and the Senior Officer on DDR, contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. on DDR related issues; Present briefings, including briefings to military observers attending induction courses, as required;

Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., to include proposing agenda topics, identifying and proposing participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc; Maintain awareness of current DDR issues, to include relevant political, policy, gender considerations or other developments in specific subject area, country or region concerned; Liaise with all relevant agencies, civil society and representatives of parties to the conflict; Participate in discussions with the Mission's civilian and military components to mainstream the disarmament, demobilization, and reintegration concept in the Mission; Perform any other duties as directed by supervisor(s).

EXPERIENCE At least 10 years work experience in a related field with Government, NGO, think tank, or similar multilateral, regional or international institution, of which at least 5 years must be in a managerial position

Ability to work closely with governments, NGOs and multi-lateral institutions in complex political affairs, peace and security undertakings.

2. JOB PURPOSE : Leadership of the DDR Section. To contribute to security and stability in mission area by assisting the parties to the conflict, in consultation with all stakeholders and partners, with the design and implementation of a national DDR programme. . 3. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : • • • • • •

Manage staff and mission’s mandate in DDR; Provide effective leadership and ensure the overall management of the Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Section; Provide strategic vision and guidance to the DDR Section and its staff; Ensure good coordination and communication between international and national partners on disarmament, demobilization and reintegration; Ensure the integration of civil society in the development and implementation of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration activities; Account to the national disarmament commission on matters of policy as well as periodic updates with regard to the process of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration; Advise the SRCC, Force Commander, Commissioner of Police on various aspects of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration and recommend appropriate action; Advise and assist the Government on disarmament, demobilization and reintegration policy and operations; Ensure an integrated and harmonized approach between other components of the Mission on DDR, notably communications and public information, legal affairs, policy/planning, CIVPOL and the military component; Develop a major resource mobilization strategy and ensure good coordination with donors, including the private sector; Lead research on DDR issues Perform any other duties as directed by supervisor(s).
