ANIMAL PARK
Eccles Sixth Form College proudly hosts one of the UK’s top animal management centres, covering over four acres and housing more than 250 species, including emus, monkeys, capybaras, and a variety of domestic animals. This facility offers students hands-on experience in animal care, working with a wide range of species in environments designed to mimic their natural habitats.
From nocturnal and small mammal rooms to aquariums and reptile areas, our Animal Park provides students in animal care and veterinary courses with invaluable, real-world experience. Under expert guidance, students gain practical skills that prepare them for successful careers in animal management and welfare.

WHY IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
You will study a range of animal collections including large and small mammals, exotics, invertebrates, and aquatics. Units of study are selected to allow you to develop a broad understanding of all aspects of animal management including animal health and welfare, husbandry, and sciences of domestic, exotic, and wildlife species. Hands-on practical skills are developed during practical sessions in our animal centre, laboratories, Ryders Equestrian Centre, and veterinary nursing suite. All students complete work experience as part of their course:

WHAT IS THE COURSE PROGRESSION?
After completing your course, you will be well prepared for the next step in your further education academic journey - there is a wide range of progression opportunities across and upwards throughout our courses within animal studies, equine studies, and veterinary nursing. Animal management career opportunities are varied and may include working in animal sciences, welfare, husbandry, or training. Following completion of a Level 3 Technical qualification there is the opportunity to progress onto our Higher Education qualifications. ANIMAL NURSING ASSISTANT
(VOCATIONAL)
WHY IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
You will study a wide range of units that will expand your understanding of delivering basic treatments to animals. Additionally, you will investigate animal accommodation, infection control, animal nutrition, animal anatomy and physiology. You will also gain work experience in the veterinary industry, which allows you to put your skills into practice. All students complete work experience as part of their course:
Level 2: 150 Hours External Placement
WHAT IS THE COURSE PROGRESSION?
After completing your course, you will be well prepared for the next step in your further education academic journey - there are a wide range of progression opportunities across and upwards throughout our courses within animal studies, equine studies, and veterinary nursing. This course could allow you to progress to our Animal Management Level 3 or you could choose to enter the industry as a veterinary nursing assistant.

WHY IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
You will study a range of equine and animal-related topics such as riding and equitation, horse behaviour and welfare, animal biology, event management, stable yard management and animal nutrition. This course has been designed to ensure you have the opportunity to develop your practical skills alongside developing the knowledge you require to be successful in this diverse industry. All students complete work experience as part of their course:

There are two pathways available within our business provision:
BUSINESS & MARKETING:
You will study a range of business, retail and marketing modules with a mix of theory and practical activities, equipping you with the necessary skills to perform well within the business environment.

Alongside theoretic knowledge, you will be given the opportunity to complete a six-week internship as part of your course.

This course also provides a good understanding of business concepts to assist you within the world of work, whether running your own business or as an employee within a larger organisation.

You will study a diverse range of modules including worldwide tourist destinations, marketing in the travel industry and business and retail travel.

A NEW, UNIQUE QUALIFICATION
Eccles Sixth Form College proudly offers Vocational A-Levels, a unique qualification that combines the depth of A-Level study with the practical focus of vocational courses.
WHAT ARE VOCATIONAL A-LEVELS?
Rebecca Cross, Head of Eccles Sixth Form College, describes Vocational A-Levels as “an exciting and dynamic addition to our extensive vocational offerings. These courses combine the academic rigour of A-Levels with practical vocational elements.”
Students will study three courses Criminology, Health & Social Care and Psychology, blending theory with real-world applications.
WHY VOCATIONAL A-LEVELS?
Vocational A-Levels focus on hands-on training in a single subject area, ideal for students who prefer practical learning or may not thrive in exam-heavy environments. These qualifications are recognized alongside A-Levels, as reflected in UCAS Tariff Points.
WHY IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
On this course you will study three Vocational A-Levels: Health & Social Care, Criminology and Psychology.
Health & Social Care
This Vocational A-Level course places emphasis on developing skills as well as academic achievement and you will engage in practical activities, learning from Health & Social Care Practitioners.
Criminology
The Criminology Vocational A-Level will give you an in-depth knowledge and understanding of concepts linked to the criminal justice system.
Psychology
This Vocational A-Level course will give students an adept understanding of a verity of psychological topics including: the brain, behaviour and psychological theories.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

NURSING (T-LEVEL)
WHY IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
Equivalent to three A-levels, our T-Level qualifications are twoyear courses that have been developed in collaboration with businesses to meet the needs of the industry and prepare you for a career in your chosen sector.Our Health T-Level has been specifically developed to give you an insight into key aspects of the healthcare sector, with a specific specialism in Supporting Adult Nursing. You will study a range of modules, including the Health Sector, Providing Personal Centred Care, Health and Wellbeing, in addition to science elements in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Our specialist industry-expert teaching team will deliver your lessons at Eccles Sixth Form College.
WHAT IS THE COURSE PROGRESSION?
Upon successful completion of our T-Level Health qualification, you can apply to a university of your choice. Your T-Level qualification will be worth UCAS points (a T-Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A-Levels at A*) and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so that you can continue studying if you wish. You may also choose to explore Higher or Degree Level apprenticeships.Many of our T-Level Health students’ progress onto university to study a wide range of nursing specialisms, including Adult Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Children’s Nursing and Midwifery.Potential future employment opportunities for students who have completed our Health T-Level qualification include Ambulance Service Worker, Healthcare Support Worker (in a health setting), and Senior Healthcare Support Worker (in a health setting).

A variety of units are studied throughout the course. For example, you may study physiology of human body systems, scientific investigation, microbiological techniques, practical chemistry, organic chemistry, and medical physics, all of which have theoretical and practical aspects.

WHAT IS THE COURSE PROGRESSION?
These courses will prepare students academically for their next steps into Further or Higher Education, or for a career in a science-related subject. Many of our students go on to study a science-related discipline at university in areas such as biomedical science, microbiology, health, or study for degrees in biology, chemistry, or physics.

Level 2 Vocational Courses: Students are required to have a minimum of four grade 3s at GCSE.

SKILLS FOR LIFE
WHY IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
Courses for Independent Living & Working: Our courses focus on skills for independent living and skills for working life. English and Maths are embedded in all courses with additional weekly sessions that develop English and Maths skills through real life projects. Through our tutorial programme, students work on specific skills to plan and facilitate their development and progression.
Work includes self-advocacy, personal action planning, problem solving and study skills. This helps students plan and prepare for their annual reviews and future lives.Social Skills:Social skills development is a key area for many of our students and is facilitated through class work and projects, which enable students to develop skills through role play and simulations. Social events, day trips and residential visits provide students with opportunities to practise their skills in real life situations.
Trips and visits also provide relevant opportunities for students to develop particular skills such as money management, planning, time management and problem solving.Health & Wellbeing:The College works with Social Services, Salford PCT and the Shine Advisory Service to deliver a Sexual Health and Relationship course. This allows us to provide accurate and effective sex and relationship education that is accessible and meets the needs of our students.
All students within the department have a series of Person Centred Reviews/Educational, Health and Care Plans each year, which enable parents/carers and all relevant professionals to identify and provide any necessary support.This ensures that students have access to high quality multi-agency guidance and support and have the best possible chance of success.

We have well established progression routes beyond our courses that move students on towards their aspirations. A key aspect of this has been the development of our supported work related activities, which include job visits, work placements, employability skills development and career planning relevant to students’ interests and progression plans.

You will study all aspects of sports participation and performance through topics such as anatomy and physiology, sports coaching, fitness testing and training, sport management and a wide range of other sports-related subjects, providing a balance of both practical and theoretical study.

Alternatively you may choose to progress directly into the industry through higher level apprenticeships or full-time employment.

WHY IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
You will study a wide variety of topics including sports coaching, analysis of sports performance, anatomy and physiology, sports massage, and sports leadership to ensure you have the knowledge and skills to progress in this competitive industry.

WHAT IS THE COURSE PROGRESSION?
During your time with us, you will develop academically, as well as socially and emotionally, with the view of preparing you for employment or Higher Education. The course can lead to possible careers in coaching, personal training, leisure centre management, sports tutoring, the armed forces, or sports event management. Our footballing pathways allow our talented players to progress into semi-professional football with local clubs. You may decide to progress onto Higher Education with us on our Level 4 HNC/D in Sport and Exercise Science.

UNIFORMED PROTECTIVE SERVICES
(VOCATIONAL)
WHY IS THIS COURSE RIGHT FOR ME?
You will study a wide range of topics such as leadership, team development, physical preparation, exercise and fitness, outdoor adventurous activities, police powers and public services employment. At advanced level, you will study more specialist units such as management of major incidents, custodial care of individuals, government policies, the legal system and communication and technology.

Embark on a fulfilling career path by joining our esteemed apprenticeship program in Greater Manchester. With over 1,500 apprentices and 450+ employers supported, our team of specialists delivers tailored training and assessment aligned with the needs of both the apprentice and employer, with at least 20% of training conducted off the job. Our comprehensive methods include personalized one-to-one support, online training, workshops, and more. We provide assistance with English and Maths, and help apprentices find a suitable employer so they can earn while they learn. Time-scales for completion range from 18 months to two years.
