IT WAS FANTASTIC TO SEE THE LADS PUT IN A CLASSICALLY GRITTY AND DISCIPLINED PERFORMANCE TO COME AWAY WITH THE WIN ON TUESDAY NIGHT.

Wasps and was rewarded for his performance with a deserved Man of the Match award. I would also like to congratulate Connor Doherty on his first Premiership appearance for the club, Connor was one of a host of young academy prospects that got an opportunity this week due to our squad rotation and along with Curtis Langdon and Matt Postlethwaite, he really put his hand up for future selection with a solid defensive display in difficult conditions.

Good afternoon and welcome to the second edition of our digital matchday programme, last week’s issue was a huge success and it’s a great way for us to be able to keep in touch with our loyal supporters during these testing times.

We have yet another test upon us this weekend as Pat Lamb’s high-flying Bristol Bears make the trip up to the AJ Bell. Unlike ourselves, Bristol managed to carry their impressive early season form over into the postlockdown world and despite an unlucky result in round 16 at the hands of Exeter, I’m sure Pat will have his squad fired up for a great top four battle.

Talking of testing times, I think it’s fair to say we have had a less than perfect run in the Gallagher Premiership since the return of top-flight rugby. I was really pleased with the way the squad reacted this week after two defeats and it was fantastic to see the lads put in a classically gritty and disciplined performance to come away with the win on Tuesday night.

After a 160-day absence, Bristol Bears returned to action with a dramatic victory over Saracens thanks to a late penalty try at Ashton Gate. Three Callum Sheedy penalties completed the scoring for the Bears, who repelled an 80th-minute Saracens drive to claim victory.

Pat Lam’s men made it two wins from two post lockdown with a bonus-point triumph over Gloucester at Kingsholm in round 15. The Bears ran in five tries – courtesy of Max Malins, Henry Purdy, Semi Radradra, Harry Thacker and Ben Earl - to earn a recordbreaking seventh successive Gallagher Premiership win and a first at Kingsholm in more than 14 years.

Away from the Premiership, the Bears also secured a home quarter final in the European Challenge Cup with an unbeaten pool stage campaign, setting up a clash with Dragons on Friday, September 18th.

PIERS O’CONOR Piers O’Conor has enjoyed a meteoric rise since arriving from Ealing Trailfinders ahead of the 2018/19 Gallagher Premiership campaign.

The versatile back, who can play centre, wing or full back, was called up to the England squad to face the Barbarians at Twickenham in the summer of 2019 following an impressive showing for the Bears.

The former England U20 international picked up where he left off in the 2019/20 season, scoring a contender for try of the season against Bath on the opening day.
