Thirty-nine years after the release of Crocodile Dundee, the film has been digitally restored and brought up to contemporary standards.
The revamped version features what are being described as ‘’considered edits.’’ The film now opens with text acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land, which is appropriately demonstrated given the film documents Indigenous culture in the Northern Territory. In addition, other notable changers include A script that reads ‘’In loving memory of John Cornell’’ which appears after the credits.
Paul Hogan AM was a rigger on the Sydney Harbour Bridge before rising to fame in the early 1970’s. He made his first public appearance on the Talent Show ‘’New Faces’’ in 1971. Apparently, he wiggled his way onto the program by claiming to be a ‘’tap-dancing knife-thrower.’’ Public response saw him invited back for several performances, which attracted the attention of Mike Willesee, host of ‘’A Current Affair.’’ Willesee recognized Hogan’s hilarious comedic ability and offered him regular humorous appearances on “A Current Affair.’’ During this time, he befriended the show’s producer John Cornell, who later became Hogan’s manager and business partner. Paul Hogan was rewarded with his own comedy program in 1973.
A gift in your Will to QIMR Berghofer will continue to change – and save – lives for generations to come.
The original screenplay for Crocodile Dundee was a collaborative effort by Paul Hogan, Hogan’s Manager the late John Cornell and screenwriter Ken Shadie.
The upgraded version of Crocodile Dundee recently premiered at Sydney’s OpenAir Cinema at Mrs Macquarie’s Point, the film was introduced by Paul, John Cornell’s widow Delvene Delaney and director Peter Faiman.
Everyone wants to leave this world a better place. Leave a legacy of hope for a healthier future by making a gift in your Will to QIMR Berghofer.
A gift in your Will is an extraordinary act of kindness. After providing for family and loved ones, a gift in your Will, no matter how large or small, directly funds crucial medical research and provides a lasting impact on the health and lives of future generations.
CROCODILE DUNDEE was originally released in Australia in April 1986 and rapidly became a cultural phenomenon. It was then released in the United States in September 1986 and became a global sensation. The film became the highest-grossing film of all time in Australia and the highest-grossing Australian film worldwide. As a result of the staggering success of the film Paul who played the rugged Mick Dundee was propelled into super stardom.
The show ran for more than a decade. He won the TV Week Logie Award for ‘’Best New Talent’’ that same year. In 1985 he was chosen as ‘’Australian of the Year’’ and was also awarded the ‘’Order of Australia.’’ That same year he appeared as an Australian ‘’World War 1 digger’’ alongside Australian acting veteran Tony Bonner.

This year, National Advance Care Planning Week, 17 to 23 March 2025, is the perfect time to have a conversation with your loved ones and health providers so they know what choices matter most to you and respect your treatment preferences. Tony’s story shows how powerful advance care planning can be.
Tony was in his mid-60s when he received the news he had dementia. The news rocked him, and he realised he needed to plan for his future. Tony’s GP suggested he start advance care planning.
So, Tony spoke with his wife, who was his substitute decision-maker, and told her his wishes and preferences for care and treatment, including wanting to die at home, in the event he couldn’t voice this to health providers himself. He also discussed this with his daughter, Carla, and appointed her as a secondary substitute decisionmaker, knowing she would support his mother
with these tough decisions. Tony’s wife and his daughter felt comforted knowing what mattered most to Tony.
If you become seriously unwell and unable to communicate or make decisions about your own health care, who do you want to make them for you? What would you want them to do?
It might seem like an uncomfortable topic. However, planning for your future health care is incredibly important.

In Australia and around the world, Amnesty supporters have taken action time and time again and proved that people power changes lives. By collectively challenging injustice, we change lives.
And every time we secure justice for one individual, we move closer to a world where human rights are enjoyed by all. We hope you’ll feel heartened by this snapshot of positive changes achieved throughout 2024.
A long-awaited ruling was delivered by Shizuoka District Court, acquitting Hakamada Iwao, described as the world’s longest-serving death row prisoner. After enduring almost half a century of wrongful imprisonment under sentence of death and a further 10 years waiting for his retrial, this verdict is an important recognition of the profound injustice he endured for most of his life. It ends an inspiring fight to clear his name by his sister Hideko and all those who supported him, including Amnesty International who fought for his retrial for over 15 years.
Dr All Serr was working at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis when he was taken by Israeli forces, along with other healthcare workers. He spent more than six months in detention without charges or trial in conditions that constitute enforced disappearance, a crime under international law.
After handing over more than 3,000 of your signatures in October, we learned that Palestinian surgeon Dr Khaled Al Serr was freed and reunited with his family.
“I learned that there was a campaign calling for my release. It gave me comfort and strength when I needed that so much.” – Dr Khaled Al Serr
Floriane Irangabiye is a journalist who had been sentenced to ten years in prison on trumped up charges.
In August 2024 we received the incredible news that President of Burundi Evariste Ndayishimiye signed a decree granting Floriane a full pardon – and after two years of unjust detention she was finally released.
Amnesty International activists and supporters like you campaigned tirelessly for Floriane’s release, and for governments around the world to uphold journalists’ critical right to freedom of expression.
In September, the SA government passed a new law combatting conversion practices. These are practices that seek to change or suppress a person’s sexual orientation or gender identity and they cause serious harm. While this is a step in the right direction, there is more to be done to ensure the legislation fully protects LGBTQA+ people in South Australia.
Amnesty will continue to call on the South Australian government to make these news laws as impactful as possible.
The Supreme Court of India condemned unlawful demolitions as ‘unacceptable’ in November – a big win in ending the deeply unjust, widespread and unlawful property demolitions targeting the minority Muslim community.
Amnesty International released two reports in February 2024 which documented the arbitrary and punitive demolitions in India in a hate campaign against the minority community for protesting discriminatory laws and practices.
Maung Sawyeddollah was 15 when he and his family fled Myanmar to Cox’s Bazar refugee camp. He dreamt of becoming a lawyer, seeking justice by campaigning for Meta to take responsibility for its contribution to the atrocities fueling the Myanmar military’s violence against people from the Rohingya ethnic group.
Amnesty International began campaigning alongside Muang as part of 2023 Write for Rights. A few months ago, he touched down in New York and is now on his way to realising his dreams of becoming a lawyer and justice for the Rohingya community.
Julian Assange finally reached a plea deal with the US authorities after spending five years in a high security prison in the UK. Assange pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to obtain and disclose national defense information, leading to a sentence of 62 months, which
Julian Assange has already served. Amnesty International has been campaigning on behalf of Assange since he was imprisoned.
Jennifer Robinson, a human rights lawyer, barrister, and long-standing member of the legal team defending Julian Assange, told us that Amnesty’s campaign, which included all 125,000 of you in Australia, has had a ‘huge impact’.
We handed over every one of your signatures to the US consulate, adding up to more than 400,000 globally. Our movement held events, attended protests, tweeted, called their local members of parliament and emailed the US Embassy. Thank you for being a part of the relentless fight for Julian’s freedom. You have demonstrated that people power really does work.

The platypus, a unique and captivating animal, is the only remaining semi-aquatic monotreme in the world. Found exclusively in Australia, these fascinating creatures are facing serious threats from climate change, habitat destruction and fragmentation, leading to a worrying decline in their numbers.
Dr Tamielle Brunt, Wildlife Queensland’s PlatypusWatch Project Officer, is passionate about protecting platypuses and restoring their populations in Queensland’s waterways. With a PhD and many inspiring research publications, Dr Tam performs tireless work helping safeguard this iconic species for future generations.
Dr Tam’s journey with platypus conservation began in 2014 when she volunteered on a platypus survey in Grampians National Park, Victoria. Noticing a lack of long-term research on Queensland’s platypus populations, she started her honours in 2015 and then continued with her PhD in 2016, focusing on platypus conservation. Wildlife Queensland’s PlatyCount 2016, which launched the now nine-year-long successful environmental DNA program, provided some of the data Dr Tam used in her PhD.
Dr Tam’s initial publication of four years’ worth of eDNA data revealed some concerning findings. Several waterways where platypuses were historically present showed no trace of their DNA, even after repeated annual surveys. This prompted local councils to prioritise platypus conservation and invest in ongoing eDNA monitoring. Furthering her research, Dr Tam developed occupancy models to understand the habitat characteristics that
determine platypus presence in urban waterways. Factors such as rainfall, vegetation cover, and topographical wetness were found to significantly influence platypus distribution. Thus, creeks with better water quality, availability and connectivity were more likely to support platypus populations.
Looking forward, Dr Tam advocates for a comprehensive statewide eDNA survey, noting that it has been over two decades since the last platypus census in Queensland. An up-to-date analysis is necessary to assess current platypus population distributions and inform conservation strategies.
Additionally, she emphasises the need to reassess the platypus’s conservation status to reflect the emerging threats and declining populations observed in recent studies.
Dr Tam’s research and advocacy have laid a strong foundation for platypus conservation in Queensland. Her work not only advances our scientific understanding of this monotreme but also motivates and influences the community and government to support and protect this unique species.

The Christmas spirit was well on display at the final Jack Attack for 2024 at Foster Bowls Club.
Jack Attack is a fun and fast-paced format of bowls aimed to encourage participation with non-bowling members of the community.
For its last session of 2024, Foster Bowls Club encouraged participants to dress up in Christmas outfits and played Christmas tunes.
This ensured the Jack Attack competition ended with a night of festive fun.
The Section A premiers were Hospital Facilities comprising of Tony Vanin, Andrew Kent and Martin Schack, while the Robblecocks team of Leigh Roberts, Vanessa Roberts and Rod Cockerill were the winners of Section B.
Foster Bowls Club’s Beverley Tyers said Jack Attack had brought a whole range of new people to the club and had helped drive up club revenue.
“It’s about getting the community to see what our facilities have to offer, especially the younger generation as they are the future of the club,” she said.
“It’s all about utilising our facilities to its greatest ability, and showcasing to the wider community the fun and enjoyment that bowls can bring.”
The next Jack Attack competition for Foster Bowls Club kicks off on January 15, 2025, and will run for eight weeks. Don’t miss your chance to be part of this inclusive and exciting event.
Jack Attack appeals to people who are looking for a more structured bowls competition than barefoot bowls, but don’t have the time to commit to longer formats of the game.
A total of seven gold medals will be on offer for the sport of bowls for Glasgow 2026 following the latest developments from the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
More than 200 events will be contested across the streamlined competition, the 23rd of its kind, with bowls set to be staged indoors for the first time in the event’s history.
The sport will see the singles and pairs disciplines contested in both the open men’s and women’s schedule, with the para component to remain the same as Birmingham 2022 that consisted of men’s and women’s B6-B8 pairs as well as the vision impaired mixed pairs. It is unknown what the athlete allocation will look like across the open disciplines with more information to be provided over the coming months.

Retirement communities aren’t what they used to be. Not so long ago, the term ‘retirement’ conjured images of ‘nursing homes but the growing population of baby boomers starting or preparing for retirement is changing all that.
There’s growing resistance to anything that looks like, smells like or smacks of a nursing home or institution these days, and that’s a good thing. The youngest baby boomers turned 50 just a few years ago, and they’re looking for something completely different.
Lifestyle Villages where members enjoy private residences but share recreational or community spaces are becoming more popular. These developments attract younger residents – 55 or over – who are looking to downsize their maintenance but up-size their lifestyle with a community of likeminded individuals with whom they can feel in tune.
And here are four ways retirement communities are changing the face of retirement for the better:
Maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle is key to getting the most out of your retirement. Most of the new-look developments are located in enhanced lifestyle locations, so there’s plenty for you to do nearby and great infrastructure to help you take advantage of it.
Plus, with walking paths, community facilities, group fitness classes and more on site, they couldn’t be further from the image of the passive nursing home. With so many lifestyle options available to you, it’s easy to prioritise your emotional and physical wellbeing.
Just because you’ve retired doesn’t mean you’ve disconnected from the world. The latest communities realise keeping connected is crucial in today’s age and have built accessibility to technology into the fabric of their master plans.
That means there’s easy connectivity to the internet, giving you the ability to remain in touch 24/7 at the click of a mouse.
Today’s retirement communities are designed to make you feel more independent as you age, not less. This is in keeping with the fact that residents are more youthful than ever before. In fact, retirees not only feel younger, but they are also younger – the age of people living in these communities has dropped to a youthful 55 rather than the expected 65+.
Equipped with high-quality amenities, easy-access open spaces and proximity to transport options, the planned communities reinforce the feeling of self-determination and freedom that should be integral to retirement.
And while you’ll live in your own home, the supportive community of having like minded individuals around and security infrastructure like CCTV will make you feel as if someone is always looking out for you.
You might be considering a move to a retirement community because maintaining your current family home is taking up the time you could be enjoying a simpler lifestyle. And downsizing your maintenance also means you can enjoy substantial savings in the cost of living.
New 6-star energy-rated resort-style homes mean you’ll save more in energy costs straight off the bat (not to mention it’s designed to be kinder to the environment). You’ll also reduce fuel and car running costs with central layouts that make it easier to live, shop and thrive close to home.
Retirement communities are a radical rethinking of retirement – one that embraces the future of aging with gusto and creativity. They’re a return to more communal, more social living in keeping with a generation that has transformed our way of thinking so many times throughout the decades – and doubtless it’s not done yet!
An Encore Living community is all the above and more.

Not that many years ago, Gary and Nola’s life was full of gardening, house swaps on the New South Wales coast and taking trips to Queensland to visit their children and grandchildren.
But then Nola noticed that Gary wasn’t quite himself; he was making uncharacteristically risky moves while driving and generally forgetting things. Following medical investigations, Gary was diagnosed with dementia in 2020. Nola cared for Gary at their home for four years until he became a resident at Royal Freemasons in 2024.
Happily married for 62 years, Gary and Nola took time to adjust to aged care and living apart, but now Gary has the high-level support he needs and a weight of worry has been taken off Nola’s shoulders. She visits him every day and says the Royal Freemasons team are now like family.
“I’ve got to know the staff here so well — they are almost like another family — and I do feel it’s like a second home,” says Nola.
Gary particularly loves the musical performances the lifestyle team arranges for the residents. “He loves the special concerts they have here and claps along to the music,” says Nola.

The Right at Home Jackaroos have once again successfully defended the Trans Tasman trophy after a scintillating day on the greens of Naenae, replicating the 2024 scoreline of four series to one over the New Zealand Blackjacks.
It was a barnstorming day for the Australian men who carried on the form that saw them gain a 7-5 lead overall after day two, with the away team losing just one matchup on the final day of competition.
Aaron Wilson overcame a slow start to the weekend, clinching the final two singles matches against Shannon McIlroy, while also pairing with Aaron Teys to defeat McIlroy and Ali Forsyth in the middle session to enjoy a perfect day of action.
Teys and his fours counterparts in Corey Wedlock, Carl Healey and Lee Schraner were magnificent in the two fours clashes played on the southern tip of the North Island, winning by a combined nine shots across the contests with Wedlock, Schraner and Healey going down by three in the sole triples match of the afternoon to mark the solitary blemish for the Jackaroos.
In a close encounter, the Australian women fought back from a two-match deficit to win the first four contests of the day, meaning that New Zealand would have to reel back a hefty shot difference of 19 in the final session to level the series.
Dawn Hayman was exemplary in the morning session with a tight singles encounter against Tayla Bruce, winning the matchup 5-4 4-4, while Kristina Krstic, Chloe Stewart, Natasha Van Eldik and Kelsey Cottrell enjoyed a gritty 16-14 victory over Leeane Poulson, Briar Atkinson, Selina Goddard and Val Smith in the fours.
Krstic and Hayman blasted through Atkinson and Goddard in the pairs with a 16-6 6-5 win in the middle session, while Stewart, Van Eldik and Cottrell claimed a 19-7 salutation in the triples to leave the green and gold in a strong position to claim the tie.
Bruce was able to rebound with a 7-2 11-2 victory over Hayman in the deciding session to bring hope to her fours team, who were able to secure a two-shot victory to level the win count, however it was Australia who managed to defend their shot differential to clean sweep the open competition once again.
– New Zealand win on shot difference +11
Like 2024, the sole point on the overall master board for the Blackjacks went to the para team, who came from behind to take the trophy on the final match.
The opening session saw Louise Hoskins and Serena Bonnell win their first match as a pair for the tournament before Damien Delgado and James Reynolds piled on more pressure for the Blackjacks with a straight sets win of their own.
Jacky Hudson and Jake Fehlberg were the only team to not register a win for the Australians in the morning, going down in three sets but winning the shots count.
Australia were two matches and nine shots to the good going into the final round, but undeterred, New Zealand struck, winning two of the final three contests by a total of 18 shots to claim the tie.
Australia A v New Zealand
Development – Men – Australia defeated New Zealand 13.5-4.5
Just as the open men, Australia A’s men were in a rampant mood, dropping just one match on the final day to ensure the tie would be theirs early in the day.
In fact, the first two sessions would be dominated by Australia, with Kane Nelson again on song in singles play, as well as triples with Nick Cahill and Cody Packer, while Nathan Black and Ben Twist were in fine form in the pairs.
Cahill, Packer, Black and Twist went unblemished in the fours, with the only defeat coming in Nelson’s final singles match against Aiden Takarua for New Zealand’s sole win of the afternoon.
Australia A v New Zealand
Development – Women –Australia defeated New Zealand 11-7
The Australia A women only needed a solitary victory to secure the overall win on the final day and that came in the opening session as Brianna Smith, Kylie Lavis, Jessie Cottell and Jamie-Lee Worsnop clinched a fours win to make the lead unassailable.
New Zealand would win three of the next four in what were inconsequential to the overall standings.
Cassandra Millerick claimed Australia’s second salutation in her final singles encounter with a 3-6 6-5 4-3 win against Lisa Prideaux.

Private credit, or non-bank lending, is experiencing significant growth in Australia. A property debt fund is a form of private credit that pools capital from investors to provide loans to borrowers. Generally, the loans financed by the property debt fund are secured by property, which provides a layer of security for the lender (i.e. the investors in the property debt fund) because the property can be sold if the borrower defaults on the loan.
Property debt funds generate regular income returns to the investors in the fund from the interest paid on the loans by the borrower. Currently, the CPF Property Debt Fund has offerings returning 11.00% p.a. (As of January 2025). This regular, high yield income is just one of the reasons property debt funds may be an appealing investment option for retirees.
To understand the risk and return of property debt funds, and to make more informed investment decisions, investors should consider the concept of the capital stack—the hierarchy of claims on a project’s cash flows or assets.
The primary position in the capital stack is first mortgage debt. If your investment is secured by a first mortgage, you are the first lender to be repaid, whether this is at the end of the loan term or should the underlying property assets have to be sold after a borrower has defaulted on the loan.
The secondary position in the capital stack is second mortgage debt. Second mortgage or mezzanine debt is repaid after all first mortgage debt holders are repaid in full, at the end of the loan term or in the instance of a loan default.
The final position in the capital stack is equity. Equity investors are last to be repaid and benefit if the project is commercially
successful, as these holding represent ownership in the project.
As an investment moves higher in the capital stack, its risk increases accordingly, warranting a higher return to compensate for that risk. This principle, known as "riskadjusted return", states investors should be appropriately rewarded for the level of risk they assume.
By understanding the nuances of the capital stack and risk-adjusted return, investors can be a little more informed navigating Australia’s growing private credit market.

While most spine pain occurs as a part of the normal degenerative ageing process-it can also be a warning sign of cancer, infection, autoimmune disease, or a structural problem causing pressure on the spinal cord/ nerves
WHY DOES THIS OCCUR?
Our spines are comprised of a number of joints around the spinal cord and nerves. As we age, changes occur as the joints wear out resulting in inflammatory processes such as osteoarthritis. The joints and tissues can also become overgrown and compress a neural structure, which is called spinal stenosis. Failure of the joints to hold the bones in position can result in slippage and deformity. These are common characteristics of conditions such as spondylolisthesis, kyphosis, or scoliosis.
WHAT SYMPTOMS CAN THESE DEGENERATIVE CHANGES CAUSE?
• Dull, burning, or sharp pain-which can be confined to a single spot or cover a large area.
• Arm/leg numbness or tingling
• Sharp, shooting pain that radiates from your neck and your arm.
• Sharp shooting pain that radiates from your lower back to your buttocks, and down your leg (sciatica)
• Stiffness in your neck or back
• Difficulties with walking and balance
• Difficulties with coordination
• Loss of bladder and bowel control, with weakness in both legs are important symptoms that require immediate medical attention.
You should see your general practitioner for a medical and physical exam. They may obtain a CT scan and /or an MRI scan to assess your spine. CT/MRI produces pictures of bones, joints, ligament, the spinal cord and spinal nerves. Sometimes other tests are needed such as bone scans and specialised x-rays.
If you experience back or neck pain it may simply improve with some rest. Over the counter medicines such as paracetamol or ibuprofen, may also help alleviate discomfort. Activity should be modified to avoid movement that exacerbates pain. Physiotherapy, acupuncture, and massage therapy are beneficial.
Low-impact exercise programs may improve range of motion, increase muscle strength, and improve flexibility and mobility, increase endurance, and improve pain. Weight loss and improving one’s core strength are also useful.
A surgeon can advise on further treatment if the above suggestions haven’t improved the pain and your quality of life.
Your surgeon can assess your imaging and recommend cortisone steroid injections that can alleviate some forms of neck, back, arm or leg pain.
An appropriate surgical operation can also significantly improve pain, mobility and quality of life.
Because symptoms, imaging findings and causative factors can vary significantly, a surgical procedure must be tailored for you.
A traditional spine surgery procedure involves an incision along the backbone. The surgeon moves muscle and soft tissue aside to gain access to the bones of the spine and the spinal cord.
Minimally invasive techniques involve a smaller incision and special microsurgical instruments, through which the surgeon operates on the spine. Minimally invasive techniques may be able to shorten recovery time and reduce the risk of complications.
These approaches allow the surgeon to trim
away overgrown bone, ligament and joint tissue to decompress the spinal cord and spinal nerve. Some operations (for example those that help control the conditions spinal stenosis or sciatica) employ a decompression technique and at times may also require a fusion. The latter involves a surgeon placing titanium screws and rods to stabilise the spine and cause adjacent vertebrae to fuse.
There are minimally invasive ways to perform this type of surgery, and can even encompass advanced technology such as GPS-like tracking systems and robotics. If performed for the right indications, surgery can be effective in 80-90% of patients.
Most patients are mobilised either on the same or following day of surgery, as early movement has been shown to be be beneficial.
You may be reviewed by a physiotherapist to provide advice on stretches, exercises and activities. Sometimes health professionals will design a rehabilitation program to meet your needs. The type of program will depend on the procedure you underwent and your level of mobility.
The goal of back and neck rehabilitation is to help you return to your highest level of fitness and independence and improve your overall quality of life.

PETER : Yes I am married and have two children, my wife is supportive and understands my work commitments.
B&L : What is your advice for a healthy mind and body?
PETER : A healthy diet with lots of vegetables, and consistency when exercising.
B&L : How do you relax when you are at home?
PETER : Home is very intense because I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old. I relax by being at work and focusing intensely on one task at a time.
B&L : How do you feel about COVID, and do you think the Government has dealt with COVID correctly, is there anything you would have done differently?
PETER : Yes I would have done a few things differently, however compared to other countries, I think Australia is doing very well.
B&L : What are your aspirations for the future and what legacy do you want to leave behind?
PETER : Maintain my focus to maximise the positive outcomes for my patients, and continue to teach the next generation of budding neurosurgeons.

“THERE IS NO GREATER FEELING THAN GIVING BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY. WHETHER THIS IS THROUGH ART, LOVE, CHARITABLE WORKS OR SIMPLE ACTS OF KINDNESS.’’
“My aunt Olivia Newton-John experienced incredible success and gave back to the world in bucket loads but she also endured many trials, financial betrayal, heartbreak and multiple battles with cancer.
It was through these that her resilience, positivity and selflessness shone the brightest and taught me the most.’’
TOTTIE GOLDSMITH
(OAM)
Australian actress and singer Tottie Goldsmith says she is “honoured to be part of a musical tribute to her late aunt, the legendary Olivia Newton-John.’’
The musical memoir is an unforgettable theatre experience, which highlights Olivia Newton-John’s remarkable career and the profound bond between Olivia and her niece Tottie Goldsmith.
Through several of Olivia’s most revered songs, Tottie shares intimate memories and behind-the-scenes insights to celebrate the wisdom and kind spirit of a hugely successful musical genius. Bowling&Lifestyle magazine recently had the enormous pleasure of interviewing Tottie Goldsmith. It was wonderful hearing her thoughts and memories relating to Olivia Newton-John, plus the behind-the-scenes recollections she shares through the musical tribute to Olivia NewtonJohn’s Legacy…..
Tottie is the daughter of Australian nightclub industry personality Brian Goldsmith and Olivia Newton-John’s sister, actress and model Rona. Tottie has had an eclectic showbiz career which has included music, film, television, radio and theatre. Her career gained enormous traction in the 90’s due to her success as a radio and television host and “it girl.’’
She has appeared in many iconic Australian television productions which include, The Young Doctors, Starting Out and Prisoner.
She also made a guest appearance on 1989 episode of Mission Impossible, which was filmed in Australia. However, one of her most memorable and challenging appearances, was on the extremely popular Australian soap opera Neighbours. Tottie played Cassandra Freedman, a flirtatious and ruthless character who tried to seduce Paul (one of the main characters in the series).
In 1986 Tottie joined the dynamic female pop band “The Chantoozies.’’ The band released their first single “Witch Queen’’ in 1987, the song peaked at number 4 on the Australian singles chart and went on to sell 300,000 records. However, Goldsmith left the band in 1989 to pursue a solo singing career.
In the 2020 Queen’s Birthday Honours, Tottie was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) which was in recognition for her contribution to the performing arts and charitable work, including her work as a Goodwill Ambassador for her aunt’s cancer centre. The Olivia NewtonJohn Cancer and Wellness Centre.
B & L : Congratulations Tottie on your ultra successful career in the entertainment industry and your unrelenting commitment and accomplishments relating to your charity work.
Can you tell our readers and followers who or what inspired you to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?
TOTTIE : My father Brian Goldsmith was the one who inspired me to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. He virtually invented the nightclub scene in Melbourne, so my family was always surrounded by celebrities and creativity. The entertainment business is in my DNA.
B & L : What advise did your aunt Olivia give you relating to your journey into the world of entertainment and did you want to follow in her footsteps ?
TOTTIE : My aunt was always very encouraging. No, I did not want to follow in her footsteps, I wanted to be a dancer, however due to injury which ended my dance career opportunities, I joined a theatre group at the age of 16, which made me feel like “I belonged.’’
B & L : The concept of doing a musical tribute to Olivia Newton John is truly magical, can you tell our readers why you embarked on such a daunting project, did you write the script and do you perform in the musical memoir ?
TOTTIE : The musical tribute is my way of showing gratitude to my aunt and yes, I wrote the script and I do perform alongside a five-piece band.
B & L : How do you think the audience will react while watching the show ?
TOTTIE : I think they will be moved by some of the memories I share, and they will laugh when I share the behind-the-scenes insights to celebrate the wisdom and humour of an extraordinary woman.
B & L : When did you realise that your aunt Olivia was an icon admired all over the world, do you have a fond memory of Olivia you would like to share ?
TOTTIE : Yes, growing up I was aware that my aunt was a country and Western artist. I was 16 years old when Grease the movie was released in 1978. I realised then how successful and famous she was. That movie (Grease) ensures that she and her legacy lives on.
B & L : Can we digress for a moment, I would like to ask you about your career and one of the most controversial roles you have undertaken. The role of Cassandra Freedman in Neighbours, do you have any recollections you would like to share ?
TOTTIE : I loved being on neighbours, however my initial reaction after being offered the role was “WOW.’’ It was very exciting playing Cassandra Freeman (Margo Robbie’s mother) and I connected with Margo right away.
B & L :In 2020 You were awarded the order of Australia medal for your contribution to the performing arts and your charity work. Can you tell our readers about your charity work and how you felt receiving the (OAM)
TOTTIE : I was extremely honoured to receive the award, I am also very proud to be a Goodwill Ambassador for The Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness Centre along with Olivia’s daughter (my cousin) Chloe Lattanzi.
B & L : Can you tell us about (Olivia’s Walk for wellness)
TOTTIE :Last year’s walk for wellness (2024) was extraordinary. John Easterling (Olivia’s husband) led the walk along with Olivia’s daughter Chloe Lattanzi and myself. The walk takes place yearly and raises much needed funds for the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness & Research Centre.
B & L : Are you still in contact with Chloe ?
TOTTIE : Yes of course
“I’ll be there for Chloe like Olivia was for me.’’
B & L : Can you tell our readers about other charities you are involved with ?
TOTTIE : I am a volunteer at “The Big Umbrella’’ a charity which serves meals to people experiencing food insecurity and homelessness.
The charity operates with a team of dedicated volunteers who help to create a sense of belonging in the community.
B&L : What is next on the agenda for Tottie Goldsmith ?
TOTTIE : Continue working as an ambassador for the Olivia Newton John cancer and wellness organization and continue my association with
The Big Umbrella organization who have been nationally recognized as an emergency food relief organization supporting communities affected by wildfires, floods, earthquakes, storms and pandemics…….

A home equity release loan, also known as a reverse mortgage, is becoming a popular financial solution for retirees wanting to enhance their lifestyle while staying in the home and community they love.
For many of todays over 55s, the home is their largest asset, but tapping into that wealth without selling the property can be challenging. This is where equity release comes in, allowing you to convert some of your home’s value into cash for other purposes — renovations, travel, a new car or caravan, funding aged care or simply meeting day to day living expenses — all without needing to sell the property.
Recently, home equity release loan specialist Inviva, has partnered with Australian tennis legend Todd Woodbridge to build awareness of how home equity release loans can help retirees live their best life. Having seen firsthand within his own family the challenges of navigating retirement, Todd understands the value of a trusted, flexible home equity release lender like Inviva.
“Having witnessed my own parents’ desire for options outside of moving into a smaller house or selling their home, working with Inviva to help retirees fund their retirement and lifestyle goals is a mission close to my heart,” Todd said.
Unlike traditional mortgages, there are no monthly repayments. With Inviva’s home equity release loan, you can receive funds as a lump sum, a regular income, or a line of credit—accessing money only when needed. Plus, all loans come with the government’s no negative equity guarantee ensuring you or your beneficiaries will never owe more than the property’s value.
The loan is typically repaid when the home is sold or when the last borrower moves into long-term care or passes away. You retain full ownership of your property and can benefit from any future value increases.
For a free property estimate and to find out how much you could borrow, visit the home equity release loan specialists at inviva. com.au or call 1300 222 223
At 72 and 68, Murray and Margaret, a retired couple from Castle Hill, NSW, found their savings, superannuation and pension was not enough to cover rising living costs. Although they had paid off their mortgage, unexpected expenses and limited cash flow meant they couldn’t fully enjoy their retirement. They had plans to travel more and spend time with their grandchildren and they were not quite ready to downsize and leave their local community.
How Inviva helped
After consulting their children and a financial advisor, they opted for a reverse mortgage on their $1.4M home. They arranged to receive $3,000 per month for eight years, by which time they planned to downsize and repay the loan.
This additional income gave them stability, covering living and healthcare costs while allowing them to travel, explore new hobbies, and spend quality time with their grandchildren—without financial stress.
“Using our home equity to improve our lifestyle was one of the best decisions we made. The extra $3,000 a month has given us the freedom to enjoy life, travel, and stay in the community we love. It’s truly been a lifesaver.”
— Margaret

The places we call habitats are, for countless living creatures, home. That’s why the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) fights to secure the land, water, and airspace animals need to thrive.
One example of how IFAW does this is in southeast Queensland where a new climate corridor for koalas, greater gliders and other wildlife is springing to life along the western ‘horn’ of the Greater Border Ranges.
Last year local landholders helped plant more than 3500 trees, and installed dozens of nest boxes and wildlife water drinkers across 53 properties to establish the Bunyas to Border (B2B) climate corridor.
The corridor is the first in a series of Koala Climate Corridors supported by IFAW and Great Eastern Ranges. They work with regional project partner, Lockyer Uplands Catchments Inc. (LUCI) to engage local landholders and communities to regenerate and reconnect habitats to provide wildlife with safe spaces to move as conditions and food sources shift.
Regional Director of IFAW Oceania, Rebecca Keeble, said the B2B project is an important component of IFAW’s global goal to create pathways for wildlife that not only help maintain healthy wildlife populations, but also help communities become more resilient in the face of climate change.
“Protecting wildlife and healthy ecosystems
is critical for the planet’s health. When wildlife can move safely in response to ever-changing conditions, we are providing a buffer against extinction, while also helping to protect human wellbeing by preventing collisions and creating robust and resilient biodiversity,” she said.
Wildlife sanctuary coming back to life
IFAW is also helping to regenerate habitat destroyed in the Black Summer bushfires five years ago. One property that was severely affected was Two Thumbs Wildlife Sanctuary in southern NSW.
Immediately after the fires IFAW deployed IFAW x UniSC koala detection dog Bear, along with his handler and researcher Dr Romane Cristescu and a heat seeking drone to Two Thumbs. ‘Team Bear’ spent weeks searching the scorched landscape and were able to rescue eight koalas.
IFAW also helped fund a new koala enclosure on the property and worked with ecologists to plan the sanctuary’s restoration. This included installing a range of unique modular Habitat nest boxes and dens to encourage animals and birds, including endangered gang gang cockatoos and greater gliders, to return home to the sanctuary.
Recent footage from cameras sited around the nest boxes and dens have shown dozens of native animals returning to the area, and when Team Bear returned in late 2024, they found 18 koalas, including four joeys, in just one section of the sanctuary.
All over the world, IFAW’s conservation work helps provide space for native animals, both wild and rehabilitated, to thrive once again.
T ogethe r, we can build a b etter future for people, a nimals a nd t he planet
your gift could help koalas, elephants and their habitats to survive and thrive far into the future
O u r n atu r al wo r l d ne e d s u s . Only together, through collaboration and action can we answer the call. For over 50 years and with projects in more than 40 countries the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) rescues individual animals, prevents animal cruelty and campaigns for the protection of wildlife and habitats.
Our work is only possible because of the generosity of our supporters, many of whom have chosen to leave a gift to IFAW in their Will. In fact, for every f fi ve animals IFAW has helped, o o ne has been saved thanks to the generosity of gifts in Wills. And the impact of those gifts is never limited to just one individual animal.
Including IFAW in your Will is a powerful way to continue making an impact that helps people and animals thrive together. A gift in your Will extends your legacy as part of IFAW’s change-making boots on the ground around the world.
You can continue helping rescue and rehabilitate individual animals, like Sally the 2-year-old elephant calf who was entangled in a poacher’s snare when we rescued her and airlifted her to the IFAW-supported Wild
is Life-ZEN Elephant Nursery in Zimbabwe where she’s continuing her journey back to the wild.
You can be a lasting part of our fight against illegal wildlife trafficking, such as training and equipping wildlife rangers to intercept traffickers, investigate crime scenes and ensure proper care for living animals seized as part of prevention operations.
You can continue to play a vital role in our long-term landscape conservation efforts, like Room to Roam, our innovative approach to conservation in Africa that aims to ensure viable, stable, resilient elephant populations long into the future.
You’ll be part of saving the few remaining North Atlantic right whales, rehabilitating koalas burned by bushfires in Australia, rescuing animals caught up in natural disasters, fighting for legislation that better protects animals and much, much more.

It has been widely speculated that the conflict between William and Harry began in 2016, when William expressed concerns relating to how quickly Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle was developing. However despite the opposition the couple married in 2018 and subsequently stepped down as senior royals in 2020 to pursue a financially independent life in America.
In his memoir ‘’SPARE’’ Harry revealed how difficult and complex his relationship with his brother had become, despite the harmonious public image portrayed. A Royal biographer recently also spoke about the conflict between Prince William and Prince Harry adding that the ‘’inseparable bond they once portrayed was a myth.’’ He added, Prince Harry was ‘’very unhappy’’ in the Royal Family. The biographer also suggests Prince Harry’s memoir ‘’Spare’’ significantly added fuel to the fire, and further tarnished the relationship with Prince William, due to it’s public airing of private family matters.
Fast forward to 2025, and the royal fairytale that captivated the world in 2018 is still spiralling out of control. Unfortunately, the 2020 tell-all interview
with Oprah Winfrey, raised concern when Harry and Meghan labelled the Royal Family as racists, causing a catastrophic blow to the already fractured relationship with The Royals. Despite this, Meghan continued with a bombshell interview with The Cut Magazine where she continued with her criticism of the family. The couple then participated in the 2022 Netflix docuseries called ‘’Harry & Meghan which again caused irretrievable damage to the Royal Family.
However, Royal insiders believe that while King Charles and Prince William might be open to mending fences with the exiled couple, Queen Camilla remains steadfast in her reluctance to reconcile with the pair, after Harry’s critical remarks relating to Camilla being a ‘’wicked stepmother with ulterior motives’’ were published in his memoir ‘’SPARE.’’
Only time will tell if the complexities revolving around this family will ever be resolved.
Royal editor Russell Myers reports that Harry ‘’will not return to the royal fold unless he receives an apology from his brother William.

MELANIA TRUMP
Donald Trump was officially sworn in as the 47th president of the United States for the second time at his inauguration on the 20th January, 2025 alongside his wife Melania. Mr. Trump and his wife have been together for almost 2 decades. The couple seems to possess a strong affinity that is steadfast, resulting in unapologetic devotion to each other. However, despite allegations being made by at least 25 women, accusing Mr. Trump of sexual harassment and sexual misconduct, Melania has
remained loyal and extremely focused in her plight to defend and support her husband……. Over the years, Melania has come across as a secretive yet intriguing woman, who has embraced and convincingly accepted her role as first lady. She is overwhelmingly devoted to her husband and son. However, she has also been described by many as the silent type, yet her “intentional lack of communication’’ helps her maintain the confident and independent persona she strives to achieve.
Sceptics are now realising that Melania Trump’s recent foray into the political arena alongside her husband Donald and the Democrats nominee Kamala Harris was far from an accident. Numerous sources believe it was a carefully orchestrated PR move to boost Trump’s chancers of securing the top job for the next four years.
However, her recent appearances at her husband’s presidential campaign reveals there could be an interesting strategy taking place. Melania’s return to the white house indicates she is expected to return “on her own terms.’’

Former model Melania Knauss Trump was born in 1970 in the small town of Sevnica in Slovenia, then part of Yugoslavia. The town is sparsely populated by only 5,000 people, and fast becoming a popular tourist destination since Melania became America’s first lady.
Melania is the first naturalized citizen to become first lady, and the second Catholic first lady after Jacqueline Kennedy. At the age of sixteen, Melania was spotted by fashion photographer Stane Jerko, while she was appearing in a school-sponsored fashion show. Stane Jerko, immediately recognised her potential and promptly arranged a photo shoot in his studio. Melania’s modelling career slowly started gaining momentum, however her breakthrough did not eventuate until 1992 when she entered “Slovenia’s Look of the Year fashion contest.’’ In which she was “runner up.’’
Melania spent the following eight years traveling Europe in search of modelling assignments.
She was now 24 years old, and had already made Paris her primary residence.
In 1995 she met “Metropolitan Models’’ co-owner Paolo Zampolli, who encouraged her to continue modelling despite an unremarkable modelling career thus far. Zampolli was also a friend of her future husband, Donald Trump.
In 1996 Paolo Zampolli sponsored Melania’s immigration to the United States.
She subsequently continued working as a model in Manhattan. In 1998 Zampolli finally introduced her to the real estate developer Donald Trump.
The couple began dating and Trump was instrumental in securing more modelling assignments for her...
Melania returned the favour by supporting Trump during his 2000 presidential campaign.
Donald Trump and Melania married in 2005.
Their son Barron was born the following year.
TRUMP, who was at the time affiliated with the Democratic Party, dropped out of the 2000 Presential Campaign in February of that year.
He named “internal conflict’’ as the main reason he exited the party. However, he still managed to win the primaries in California and Michigan.
Melania dedicated most of her time to their son Barron during his infancy. Therefore, was unable to join her husband at events.
However, she encouraged Donald to run for president in the 2016 presidential election.
Donald Trump won the 2016 presidential election and was inaugurated in January 2017.
After the inauguration Melania delayed her move to Washington, choosing to move into the White House months after the inauguration.
She spent the majority of her time in New York City and Palm Beach, Florida.
Historical data show that Melania only made very few public appearances during her tenure as first lady. She chose to live in Manhattan, which allowed their son Barron to finish school.
According to reliable sources, she chose to help Donald strategize over the phone, while her stepdaughter Ivanka fulfilled numerous “first lady’s traditional duties.’’
In conclusion, Melania is unlikely to move to Washington full time, however aides insist she would still be present for major events.
Bowling&Lifestyle magazine recently had the enormous privilege of interviewing American singer songwriter
1970’s Rock sensation Suzi Quatro was the first woman in the 70’s to front a hard-rock band, play bass guitar and gain international acclaim for number one hits including “Can the Can’’ (1973) and “Devil Gate Drive’’ (1974)
Quatro was also a huge influence on many successful female guitarists who followed in her footsteps, including The Runaways, Joan Jett and Chrissie Hynde. Quatro has sold over 50 million records worldwide and was inducted into the Michigan “Rock and Roll Legends Hall of Fame in 2011.
“My feet never touched the ground. Lots of good groups with crazy and unique images. It was wild. I spent all of my time doing gigs, TV appearances, interviews or recording.’’ “I COULD WRITE A BOOK-and probably will.’’
- SUZI QUATRO
SUZI QUATRO was born and raised in a musical family in Detroit, Michigan in the United States. She is the fourth of five children, who all played various musical instruments. Her father Art was a musician of Italian decent. Her mother Helen Sanislay was Hungarian.
Suzi made her music debut at the age of eight in her father’s jazz band “The Art Quatro Trio.’’ She played drums and percussion.
At 15, Suzi and her sister Patti formed an all-girl band with her sisters Nancy and Arlene. The band was called “ The Pleasure Seekers.’’
Suzi was “told’’ she would be playing bass guitar. However, she quickly became the lead singer and front person. The band toured for 7 years achieving moderate success, they ultimately changed their name to “Cradle’’ in 1969.
In 1970, Suzi was approached by record producer Mickie Most, who offered her a recording contract after he saw her on stage at a Detroit dance hall with her band “Cradle.’’
Quatro relocated to the UK in 1971, after she was “discovered’’ by record producer Mickie Most. She spent a year living in a hotel developing her skills while being mentored by Mickie Most.
Suzi, by now a solo artist and skilled bass guitarist, singer and songwriter, went on to achieve enormous success as a singer and songwriter. She is credited as being the “Godmother of Rock’’ and has now been in the musical spotlight for over 50 years.
B&L : Congratulations Suzi on your staggering and impressive career. Can you tell our readers and followers how many times you have toured Australia and your thoughts relating to Australia ?
SUZI : This is my 40th tour of Australia, I still can’t believe it. Since my first time in 1974, I totally fell head over heels for Australia, with the country and the people. I found the people to be very much like me. Australians feel like family, I can’t explain it any better than that, there is a synergy between us.
Australia is my second home.
B&L : When did you first entertain the notion of a showbiz career, and who inspired you to explore and follow a music career ?
SUZI : I decided I wanted a music career when I was 5 and a half, after I saw Elvis Presley performing on The Ed Sullivan Show.
I was inspired to explore and follow a music career by Elvis Presley, Otis Redding, Billie Holiday, Bob Dylan for lyrics, Jameson on Bass, Funk Brothers and Motown.
SUZI : Did you ever get to meet Elvis Presley ?
SUZI : No, however Elvis rang me in 1974 after hearing my rendition of his hit “ all shook up,’’ he said it was “the best since his own.’’ He then said “ I’d like to invite you to Graceland while you’re in town.’’ I replied “I’m very busy.’’
B&L : Do you regret that decision ?
SUZI : No I don’t regret the decision, not because I was frightened, but because I wasn’t prepared to meet him. I wanted a bit more time. Elvis has been a spiritual thing for me all my life. Had I met him, that would have gone away.
I was inspired to record a tribute song to Elvis called “Singing with Angels’’ in 2005.
B&L : How did your family react when you told them you wanted to try your luck in the entertainment industry. Were they supportive ?
SUZI : They were very supportive, my father bought me a Fender Precision bass guitar when I was fourteen, which I still use in the studio today. I’m from a musical family. My father was part of a trio, Quartet, whatever, which performed under his own name Art Quatro
B&L : What instruments did he play during the time he was involved with the band.
SUZI : He played mainly keyboards, also bass and was a child prodigy on violin.
B&L : We believe you and your sister Patti formed an all girl band called The Pleasure Seekers in 1964. Can you name all the band members and the instruments they played ?
SUZI : Easy… myself and my sister Patti on guitar, MaryLou Ball on guitar, Nan Ball on drums and Diane Baker on Keys.
B&L : You were discovered by Mickie Most in 1970 after he saw you on stage at a Detroit dance hall, with the band called Cradle which also had your sisters Arlene, Patti and Nancy as members. What was it like being discovered by Mickie Most?
SUZI : I was waiting to be discovered my whole life, I had 2 offers in the same week to go solo, one from Elektra Records, who wanted me to be the new Janis Joplin, and one from Mickie Most who wanted me to be the first Suzi Quatro….. Mickie won.
B&L :What is next on the agenda for Suzi Quatro?
SUZI : I am going to start recording my new album on my return to the UK in February after this Tour. Also I have my 7th book being published, it is my second Novel, and I am finishing off my 3rd poetry book.
B& L : Suzi, you look amazing what is your secret?
SUZI : Love what you do

OF TONY BONNER AM
I would like to take you on a journey that fascinated and intrigued me many years ago.
It’s about a WW1 German Tank, there were 20 built by the German military in 1917/1918 all served in battle, however only one survived, and we (Australia) have this metal beauty. Her name is MEPHISTO # 506.
Her home now is The Queensland Museum, Brisbane. Australia.
When WW1 exploded upon us in 1914, the British were the first on the battlefield with tanks in 1916, the Germans to follow in 1917/1918. The Germans built 20 of these iron monsters, all around 20 tonnes. This is the story of one of them, MEPHISTO # 506, the only one left of the 20 originally built.
Their first battle was at St. Quentin in March 1918, the second at Villers-Bretonneux April 1918, where The Australian 26th Battalion faced them, the British tanks were there to support the infantry. After this battle, when the dust settled, on the battlefield was a stranded German tank, caught up in an artillery crater.
Australians, being Australians, thought, “we’ll have that, cracker of a war trophy.’’ Permission was given by the 26th commander, Major James Robertson. So, with the help of the British 5th Brigade tank corp, ‘Mephisto’ was pulled off the battlefield and taken to Vauxhall-enAmienous, then to Poulainville, near Amiens..….
During this stay she was heavily covered in graffiti by the allied forces that passed by.
Now there was some clever wheeling and dealing by the Aussies military to get the old girl to a seaport to be taken back to Australia. This was no simple feat, she weighed 26 tons. This was now 1919, the war was now officially over, therefore, she was legitimately claimed as a War Trophy. Now to find a ship, get her on board and back to Brisbane, Australia. While this in Europe was being subsequently organised, a special crane was being built on the dock side in Brisbane to unload her.
The ship had, with Mephisto safely now onboard, set sail for Aussie when ‘the powers that be’ in the British War Office heard of this war trophy heading to the colonies, wanted it back, and so did the Germans, but it was now heading for a new home, amongst the gum trees…..
bad luck fellas. With the mighty Mephisto now back in Brisbane, getting her off the ship was the beginning of a difficult journey. The specially built crane did the job of getting her off the ship, now to be dragged to her new home. Her caterpillar tracks’ great weight damaged much of the roadways, and many buildings along the way, taking corners was a major problem where much of the damage was done. By now the graffiti on her was fading so Queensland museum decided to paint her in 1988 to her current appearance. She is a proud iron maiden, to be in her presence moves your senses to her battle past, the noise, the smell of fuel, oil, the rattle of her machine guns, and the booming of her cannon keeps her alive. As a footnote, out of the 20 tanks, that were built in 1917 of Mephisto’s class, only she survived, all the others were scrapped after the armistice in 1918….so we are honoured to have this piece of military history. For the men who fought with her, and against her I am honoured to have visited her, felt her armoury, sensed her pride. War is hell, there are no winners, just trophy’s and trinkets.
“LEST
WE FORGET’’ COURTESY OF TONY BONNER AM
Why are we so obsessed with Meghan Markle?
Is it because she is married to Prince Harry, and we seem to take a curious interest in anything relating to the British Royal Family?
Or, is it because she is an American bi-racial divorcee, who apparently aspired to be a princess as a child, and succeeded in turning her dream into a reality, by marrying Prince Harry (a senior member of the British Royal Family) in 2018.
According to many of Meghan Markle’s former school friends, Meghan was obsessed with the allure of the British Royal Family from an early age, and was subsequently hell-bent on nabbing herself a rich British aristocrat. Apparently, in 2011she watched the nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton with a mixture of jealousy and admiration, hoping that she too, would one day meet her knight-in-shining armour and become a Princess.
However, before marrying Prince Harry, Meghan was a struggling actress who starred in a cable TV show called “Suits.’’ During this time, she was also an “Instagram influencer’’ with a successful blog named “The Tig.’’
This Instagram account had over one million followers and offered glimpses into her personal life and highlighted her unhealthy obsession with the British Royals before meeting Prince Harry. In a now-deleted post, Meghan wrote about her childhood dream of becoming a princess.
“Little girls dream of being a princess, I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power. “Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation relating to Princess Kate’’ she informed her followers. This early declaration by Megan was definitely a crude insight into her future behaviour.
Prince Harry and Meghan married in 2018 and inherited the title of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. It is believed the late Queen Elizabeth II was delighted with the prospect of having Meghan’s bi-racial identity included in the Royal Family.
THE 2021 INTERVIEW THAT CHANGED PUBLIC OPINION OF THE COUPLE, WHICH RESULTED IN SAVAGE BACKLASH FROM THE PUBLIC, WHO THEN LABLED MARKLE AS A NARCISSIST, A LIAR WITH AN INFLATED EGO AND THE WORLD’s MOST DIVISIVE WOMAN.
It did not take long for the Royal fairy tale to implode. In January 2020 the couple announced their intention to step down as senior members of The Royal Family, to pursue a financially independent life in America.
In 2021 the couple took part in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey, where it transpired that Meghan was hostile towards the Royal Family and accused 2 senior members of making racist remarks in reference to (the colour of her baby’s skin). She also accused The Royal Family of turning a blind eye, while she was experiencing mental health issues while trying to navigate her new Royal status, the claims by Meghan proved to be untrue and invalid. However, the couple have since delivered an avalanche of criticism directed at the Royal Family.
The couple went on to conduct several more interviews with major networks, where again they relentlessly criticised the Royal family and the Markle family.
Needless to say, the couple is now estranged from both families. Harry then released a tell-all memoir detailing an unflattering account of what life was like behind Palace Walls. Many believe, the couple’s frustration magnified as a result of constant media intrusion and Buckingham Palace’s refusal to allow them to develop their “SussexRoyal’’ brand. However, the couple insist they moved to the United States to become financially independent and pursue their desire for privacy. However, Royal insiders believe the incompatibility between Meghan and The Royals, plus her desire to become a wealthy global icon played a major part in their decision.
We recently had the pleasure (or for some the displeasure) to watch Meghan Markle’s latest attempt to conquer America and remain relevant. The muchanticipated cooking show produced by Netflix, “With Love, Meghan.’’ The show offered the audience an insight into Meghan’s world and featured segments on cooking, gardening, writing thankyou cards and extracting honey from a beehive. Unfortunately, the show has been universally slammed by critics, adding that Meghan comes across as fake and overly scripted. The critics also highlight, the show is devoid of any original or creative content and named the show as a disingenuous cringe-fest. Unfortunately, many people agree with this sentiment. However, only time will tell if Netflix will be prepared to part with another $100 million for a second season.
Producer John Frost for Crossroads Live today announced that the national Charity Partner for the ever-popular Broadway musical Annie will be the RSPCA (Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), the non-government, community-based charity that works to prevent cruelty to animals.
Annie will provide tickets to attend a performance of the show to each of the top five walkers who raise the most amount of funds in the Sydney and Melbourne Million Paws Walks. Bucket collections will also be conducted after selected weekend performances in each city to raise money for this worthy charity, as well as other fundraising benefits.
“I’m very pleased that Annie will be working with the RSPCA as our national charity partner. It’s an ideal synergy, and Sandy thinks it’s paw-fect too!” said John Frost. “Annie is a perennial favourite for the whole family to enjoy, so line up now to buy your tickets and support the RSPCA. Don’t wait until Tomorrow!”
“RSPCA NSW is so grateful to be the recipient of Annie the Musical’s generosity and support,” said RSPCA NSW Corporate Philanthropy Specialist, Christine Savanah. “The storyline of Annie highlights the unconditional love, friendship, and loyalty that animal companions bring to our lives. Just like Annie’s dog, Sandy, RSPCA animals know all too well the power of second chances, and we are excited that audiences will get to experience first-hand how special the human-animal bond can be.”
Kate Kasby, Events and Community Fundraising Manager at RSPCA Victoria, added, “We are very excited for Annie the Musical to arrive in Melbourne, and we are delighted to be their official charity partner. Annie and Sandy’s story is a great reminder of why our pets are so important and how they make our lives better.”
Due to popular demand, new performances have been added today for the Melbourne season of Annie. Performances up until 31 August have been released for pre-sale from today, with General Public sales from Friday 20 February.
The stellar cast for Annie features Anthony Warlow as Oliver “Daddy” Warbucks, the role he has played twice before across Australia to great acclaim and in which he made his Broadway debut, alongside Debora Krizak in the role of Miss Hannigan. Rising star Mackenzie Dunn will play Lily St. Regis and Keanu Gonzalez will step into the dancing shoes of “Rooster” Hannigan. Amanda Lea LaVergne will be Grace Farrell, while the original Yellow Wiggle, Greg Page debuts in his first musical theatre role as President Franklin D Roosevelt.
One of the most awarded and loved musicals of all time, with its iconic score featuring classics like It’s the Hard-Knock Life, Easy

I have recently discovered that a memorial I must have passed a thousand times in my life, and not noticed, now rewards me in such an emotional way. It is a memorial dedicated to the mothers, wives, daughters and the women bidding farewell to the men in their lives departing our shores to fight in a war on the other side of the world.
There are of course numerous statues, plaques and memorials to the men and women who have served our country, but not those who waited for their return, with prayers of God’s speed and a safe uninjured return. This memorial began its life during The Great War, WW1. The original idea was to give support to these women, mothers, wives, daughters and sisters by a Dr. Mary Booth of Sydney with Miss Fairclough, Mrs Thomas and Mrs Griffin of Parramatta. Their goal was to give support, news and comfort to these women who were to wait while the men folk sailed to war.
What an emotional sight it must have been as the troop carrier slowly left it’s mooring to slide gracefully onto Sydney harbour. The women, at first keeping pace with this troop ship, following her along the dock, tears, kisses, good fortune, and “be careful’’ filling the air as the men waving and throwing kisses the women’s way. The women, of course already feeling the fears of ‘‘is this the last I will see of him’’ hid this from their men. The original memorial to recognise these women
was erected under the auspices of “The Soldiers Wives and mothers.’’
It was placed 30 meters east of the Sydney Fleet Base in Woolloomooloo. That memorial is still there, the one we have all passed a thousand times is just south of Wylde St on Cowper Wharf Rd. in Woolloomooloo, with many of the Australian Naval ships as a backdrop. This backdrop forever keeps this wonderful and emotional memorial alive. It’s positioning is a remembrance to the military men and women who still leave our shores from that WW1 location. And of course the Mothers, wives and daughters of those men long ago that followed the ship along that dock, that same journey continues to this day. The women of the past that held this country together with the men away, it was the women who ran the family, schools, factories, industry and our country. God bless those of our proud military past, to those who are currently being of service, and to those of the future who choose to wear the uniform of Australia.
Thank you for standing “a post’ for us.’’

the English musical genius who introduced the world to musical theatre, with epic productions such as CATS, MISS SIAGON, PHANTOM OF THE OPERA, and JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR is often referred to as “The most commercially successful composer in music history.’’ Over the years he has won a plethora of awards including a knighthood in 1992 for his outstanding contributions to the arts. Plus, six Tony Awards, three Grammys and an Oscar. He is also the recipient of a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and an inductee into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.
Andrew was introduced to the world of theatre by his aunt Viola. Aunt Viola was an actress who took him to see many of her shows. However, Viola was not the only family member dedicated to the arts. Andrew’s father William Lloyd Webber was a composer and organist, while his mother Jean was a violinist and piano teacher.
In his memoir titled “UNMASKED’’ which was published in 2018, Andrew writes that his mum was “determined I should be a prodigy in something or other.’’ Unsurprisingly, Andrew started showing musical aptitude at a very young age, he subsequently composed his own musical at the age of nine.
During the 1960’s Lloyd Webber attended Westminster School as a Queen’s Scholar. He was also a dedicated listener of 60’s “rock n roll’’ and pop music. During this time he named “I can’t get no satisfaction’’ by The Rolling Stones
as the best record of the sixties while studying history at Magdalen College, Oxford at the time. However, he abandoned the course in 1965 to study at the Royal College of Music in London to pursue his interest in musical theatre.
Lloyd Webber was introduced to the aspiring pop-song writer Tim Rice in 1965. Their first collaboration was “The Likes of Us’’ a musical based on the true story of Thomas John Barnardo, unfortunately the project failed to gain traction or a backer. Although the musical was composed in 1965, it was not publicly performed until 2005. Andrew has written a staggering 22 musicals to date, the most popular being “The Phantom of the Opera, which is the second highest grossing musical of all time, second only to The Lion King.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s record-breaking musical “CATS’’ returns to Australia to celebrate it’s 40th anniversary. The legendary show is an extraordinary mix of music, dance and verse.
The show is based on T.S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s book of “Practical Cats’’ and set to music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. “CATS’’ has been captivating audiences around the globe since it opened in 1981 at the New London Theatre.
The show went on to play at the theatre for 21 recordbreaking years, it won both the “Oliver’’ and Evening Standard Awards for Best Musical. The show has now been watched by over 81 million people world-wide, which has resulted in the show being awarded seven Tony Awards for “Best Musical’’ while showing on Broadway.
Also known as the white whale, the pearly colour of the beluga makes it stand out among other whales. When they are born, beluga pups are grey or brown, but as they grow, they slowly fade to a white colour—a process that’s usually complete by the time they turn five years old.
Another striking feature of the beluga is its large round forehead, which is squishy and referred to as a melon. This organ is filled with oil and wax and helps belugas control the frequency of the sound waves they create, improving their echolocation abilities. When they use the melon, it changes shape depending on the sound they’re making. The beluga’s brain is located much further back in its head, separated from the melon by its blowhole
and protected by its skull.
Belugas are very social animals and live together in pods or groups made up of family and friends. The average pod size is 10, though they can include as many as 25 individuals. Several pods will travel together sometimes during migration, forming groups of thousands.
As far as researchers can tell, belugas have a complex social structure and varied relationships within these groups. Current observational studies suggest beluga pod members have shown interesting behaviours, including caring for young that aren’t their own and playing with each other.
During winter, when the Arctic Ocean freezes over in many places, many beluga pods will migrate to warmer waters. They can end up around the UK, Nordic countries, the US Pacific Northwest, and Japan. They can also be found at river mouths and sometimes even swim upriver.
During their journey out of the Arctic, sea ice pieces can break apart and crash into each other, creating dangerous situations for belugas. They can drown if they are stuck under ice and can’t find a place to come up for air.
Beluga whales have slow reproductive habits. Female beluga whales give birth to one calf roughly every three years. Breeding takes place in the spring on special breeding grounds that the belugas return to each year. Females reach sexual maturity after 4-10 years, while males take 8-15 years. Pregnant beluga females carry their young for 14 months and nurse them for two years. Parents can end up in the same pod as their children, but they can also move around and separate from each other.
Belugas are considered top predators in the ocean, meaning they play an important role in regulating the population of prey species by picking off ill or injured individuals. They also provide a food source for orca whales and polar bears.
The beluga’s scientific name is Delphinapterus leucas, which means ‘dolphin without a fin’ in Latin. Its common name, beluga, was borrowed from the Russian word for white, and other common names include white whale and belukha. Because of the wide range of noise and vocalisations beluga make, they are also sometimes known as the canary of the sea.
Beluga whales were considered vulnerable by the IUCN in 1996, changed to near threatened in 2008, and changed again to least concern in 2017. However, a specific subpopulation of belugas in Cook Inlet in Alaska has been assessed separately and listed as critically endangered on the Red List. This subpopulation is also considered endangered under the Endangered Species Act in the US.
Beluga whales live in the Arctic Ocean around multiple countries, including Canada, Greenland, Russia, and the US (mainly in Alaska). When they migrate, they pass through the waters of many other countries, including the UK, Denmark, Japan, Norway, Sweden, and the Faroe Islands. While some beluga whales live permanently in one area, many migrate to warmer climates during the winters when the Arctic water freezes.
