hat is the value of a community’s shared responsibility for tourism that, for four years, has had Blue Flag beaches? Our area is an area with a strong tourist vocation. Five beautiful beach communities stretching for 13 km of coastline (Torre S. Andrea, Roca, San Foca, Torre Specchia, Torre dell’Orso) and, from 2010, now boasts important and prestigious awards like the Blue Flag awards and the Legambiente Cinque Vele ranking. But we must emphasize our cultural tourism and aim to increase tourist flows during the low season. We are fortunate to have not only a beautiful climate but also a rich historical and cultural heritage dotted with oil mills, rock dwellings, the archaeological site of Roca overlooking the sea and the inland site of Roca Nuova presenting the remains of a large tower square built in the XVI century. Politics, passion and love for the land. When I decided to run for the position, I was well aware of the choice I made, I knew it would not be easy, but I'm used to conquering things with great commitment and sacrifice. Do you belong to the group of young administrators who grew up in close contact with the historical name of Salento policy, Vittorio Potì. What did you learn? To administer today is becoming more and more difficult, but we must not give up. Our focus is for improving the quality of life in our communities, connected to a range of cultural growth and entertainment. From here we decided to introduce the tax on vacation stays, a tax proposed to improve the tourist accommodation. And this year with a portion of the proceeds from tax we create new services for tourists and residents: an eco-friendly public transport service based on a system connected by electric trains on wheels that grant mobility between different seaside resorts of the area during the summer, as well as a project that will be called “Melendugno by bike” to develop and manage the widespread cycle network and link the environment, culture, and architecture together with trail maps (in two themes: earth and sea) which will be downloadable from the website. We aim for sustainable tourism and the best range of accommodation and environmental quality. l
