Be Remarkable: A Campaign for Salem

Page 1

I am passionate about Salem. Over the decades since I graduated, I have taken every opportunity to brag about the important foundation I received at Salem that enhanced my career in global public health leadership. But talk is cheap if we don’t act now to ensure the future of this beloved institution. I invite you to be remarkable and join me in supporting Salem.

As a future mechanical engineer, I’ll admit I’m biased— but I believe a STEAM-focused education is essential. Salem’s approach, grounded in feminine strength, collaboration, and confidence, has been foundational to my growth. When I face obstacles, I often think back to our robotics team or those intense moments in physics

Teaching with Purpose

When asked what she loves most about teaching at Salem, Professor Jamila Young says that it’s truly getting to know her students.

“I love that Salem’s small campus fosters close relationships with everyone. Our students are absolutely remarkable people!”

Professor Young brings a powerful mix of experience in health policy, law, advocacy, and leadership—making her a perfect fit as Salem’s assistant professor of health law and policy.

From TikTok to the textbook, she shows students how pop culture intersects with law and bioethics.

“I strive to use real-world practices to make learning feel relevant and meaningful to my students. I care deeply about where they are in their learning journey, and above all, I am passionate about helping students navigate life and college with both grace and accountability.”
