Poster Session A poster session will be organized on the occasion. Each poster should be a creative expression on a theme, project, case study, etc. Those contributors not eligible to presenting a paper may have their contributions displayed. Both students and professionals are welcome to submit their posters. A sub-committee of the Scientific Committee shall provide guidelines and a template for the preparation of posters. The best poster prepared and displayed shall be awarded the Best Poster Award.

Distribution of Papers Papers that are submitted on time shall be published on a CD that shall be distributed among the participants of the conference.

5.Only those papers for which the contributors have consented to participate in the reviewing process shall be included in the contest

Publication of Selected Papers

Criteria for Assessment of Papers for Awards

All the contributors will give their consent that selected papers, both in Arabic and English, will be published in a special issue of a refereed bilingual journal entitled Journal of Information Studies.The Academic Committee shall be competent to select those papers that it considers worth publication in the special issue. Only those papers submitted before the deadline shall be considered for publication.

1. Conceptual framework 2. Problem/purpose 3. Significance/originality 4. Relevance to the conference theme 5. Review of literature 6. Methodology/approach 7. Findings 8. Discussion of findings 9. Writing/composition/style 10. Documentation

Paper Awards The purpose of the awards is to encourage young researchers and writers who demonstrate potential for research and writing. The winners will be given cash awards and a certificate of recognition.

Three referees will evaluate each paper blindly. Input of all the reviewers will be used for making a decision about the award.

A transparent and blind review process shall be used for the selection of papers for the award. The following conditions shall apply: 1. Professors and associate professors shall not be eligible. 2 Those who have received an award in the preceding five years shall not be eligible. 3.Only those papers that are submitted by the residents of the GCC countries shall be eligible for the award. 4.Paper contributors must have received their highest professional qualification in the year 1999 or afterwards.

Guidelines for Papers

Endnote Examples of APA Style

The Scientific Committee shall send guidelines for the submission of papers to all those whose proposals are accepted. It shall include a template that the authors must use for the production of the papers. Some of the important guidelines are as follows:

Journal Article Dubeck, L. (1990). Science fiction aids science teaching. Physics Teacher, 28, 316318-.

1.The length of the paper should be in the range of 34- thousand words. Slightly lengthier or briefer papers might be submitted. 2.The papers should be produced in MS Word version 6 and upward or in RTM. 3.The document should be produced in double spaced, leaving top and bottom margins of 1” and left and right margins should be 1.25”, which are the default values for MS Word. 4.You must use the APA style for references. Endnotes need to be alphabetically arranged. Citations in the text and corresponding endnotes must be error free. 5.An abstract of about two hundred words should be provided. 6.For research papers, please provide the following: background/introduction, problem/purpose, research questions, statement of procedures, results, discus sion, and conclusion. 7.For position papers, please provide the following: background/information, statement of issue being discussed, evidence, discussions, and conclusion.

Areas 1. Innovative Management: A paper may deal with any of the areas of strategic planning, leadership, motivation, human resource development, change management, quality and innovation, etc. 2. Innovative Information Management: Papers may deal with any of the areas of e-resources & e-services, information organization, information architecture, library Web presence—visibility and marketing, Web technology and tools, etc. 3. Innovative Networking: A paper may deal with any of the areas of social networking: tools and applications, learning communities, Consortia building and management,networking systems and applications, etc. 4. Innovative Approaches for the Preparation and Development of Professionals: A paper may deal with any of the areas of new competencies and curricula, strategies for the continuing development of professional workforce, information literacy, etc.

6. If the proposal is related to a position paper, it must have the following elements: statement of issue being discussed, evidence, discussions, and conclusions. 7. It must clearly convey the essence of the paper. 8. The proposer/s must provide information about name/s, affiliation/s, e-mail addresses, and other contact details. 9. Proposals must be submitted electronically before October 29, 2008 using the following website:http://sla.kuniv.edu

Review of Proposals The Scientific Committee shall propose a set of criteria for reviewing proposals. These criteria shall be applied blindly and objectively. Based on the review process, the Scientific Committee shall be competent to make the final judgment about a proposal of acceptance, non-acceptance, and revision. Deadlines

Guidelines for Proposals 1. A proposal should deal with the conference theme, sub-themes or related areas. 2. The proposal must be based on original research or writing and must have not been published or presented earlier. 3. It should be written either in Arabic or in English. 4. Its length should be 200250- words. 5. If the proposal is related to a research study, it must have the following elements: problem/purpose, research questions, statement of procedures, and possible findings.
