“…Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward.” (Philippians 3: 13-14) Version NIV Philippians 3 seems fitting for the start of term and serves as a reminder that life is about looking forward to new challenges and setting new goals for personal achievement, striving to be the best we can be in all aspects of our lives. Last weekend marked the one year anniversary of the devastating J Block fire. Life is unpredictable, and all of our experiences, our blessings and our challenges, help us to grow. The learning spaces that have grown out of the need to rebuild are truly state of the art. Over the break the roof structure for the Ruth Butler Theatre, the last part of our rebuild, was put in place revealing the shell of what will be a wonderful upgraded facility for Performing Arts for years to come.

Parent Teacher Interviews for Middle and Senior School families were held on Wednesday. Thank you to all of the parents who attended the interviews. Conversations around student learning, specific areas for improvement and praise, lead to accurate goal setting for our young people. As a College we really value these sort of evenings. That said, there really is no need to wait for a special evening, if you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, performance or homework/study requirements please get in touch with the class teacher or a member of College staff and arrange a time to meet. If I can be of assistance or if you have any feedback about the Parent Teacher Interviews, please contact me virginiaw@salc.qld.edu.au Setting goals for learning in Term Two that are both aspirational and realistic, and a plan for action that is both intentional and specific, helps students to develop habits for learning and achieving personal best results. Teachers also spent time over this first two weeks of term working with their students on establishing and refining their goals for the term ahead.

ANZAC Day March Thank you to the many students and families who attended the Burleigh Heads ANZAC Day March on Tuesday. It was simply an honour to be there to witness the pride and commemorative spirit amongst our young people as we paid tribute to those who have served in the armed forces. The march also marked the one year anniversary of the 75th Anniversary of the battle of Kokoda in Papua New Guinea (PNG). This four month conflict is arguably Australia’s most significant campaign of the Second World War. Our students involvement in the annual Kokoda challenge events is both a challenge of endurance and, more importantly, an acknowledgement of the sacrifice of all those who fought, those who paid the ultimate price of their lives and those
