Junior School News Mother’s Day I would like to take this opportunity to wish all Mothers a very happy Mother’s Day on Sunday. I hope you all get spoilt with a special breakfast on Sunday morning and a day creating special memories. A big thank you to the Parents and Friends for conducting the Mother’s Day stall. There were some amazing gifts and the children really enjoyed purchasing something special for their mothers. College Fete The Fete is only a week away (Saturday 20 May). The Fete is a special day and friend-raising event simply not to be missed. If you are yet to do so, I encourage you to visit the Fete website https://fete.salc.qld.edu.au Below are a few reminders related to the Fete: • Ride passes and circus workshops can now be purchased on the Fete website. Ride passes are cheaper if purchased before the day of the Fete. • Please return raffle tickets, sold or unsold today. • Cake boxes will be sent home via the youngest child in each family on Tuesday. If you are not a baker, please feel free to return your box so that we can pass it on to another family. • Blocks of Chocolate, Prizes for the Cent Auction, Books, DVDs, Video Games & Magazines (not weekly magazines), Second Hand Toys can be dropped off to Fete volunteers at the Bus Shelter on Fridays or taken to the Administration Offices or Main Reception at any stage. • In order to reduce the amount of parking required on College grounds, there is a free shuttle bus that will be operating all day. Please park your cars at Burleigh Town Tavern and collect the shuttle bus from there. • Many hands make light work, so if you can volunteer your time at the Fete, please sign up here https://docs.google.com/ forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeEcH6mm0cDRo-D30klUiJIlGxhwWHJx4 INuCuanbElmYpo_A/viewform?usp=sf_link#start=invite NAPLAN Last week the students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sat the annual NAPLAN tests. Parking A number of Prep and Year 1 parents are parking in the Prep area or dropping their children off outside the Prep and Year 1 classrooms. I understand that this might be more convenient for parents, but it does cause congestion for our ELC families. Please use the Kiss and Go car park outside the JS bus shelter to drop your children off at school. Your assistance with this is appreciated. Student Council The student council is very active this year and have two main projects for this term. The first one is called the 5 cent challenge. Within each class there is an empty milk bottle for families to deposit their 5cent coins. The money raised from this challenge will go towards purchasing Super Max Turtles for children who are sick and will also go towards the East African Hunger Crisis. Their second project is to write and collate a second student newsletter. If your children would like to write an article for this newsletter, please have them type it up and email it to Mr Schumacher. It will be considered for the next publication. NEiTA (National Excellence in Teaching Awards) St Andrews Lutheran College has many outstanding teachers who often go above and beyond for the students in their care. Each year parents have the opportunity to nominate teachers for these awards. Nominations for the 2017 National Excellence in Teaching Awards are now open. If you would like to nominate a teacher please follow the link https://asg.com.au/asg-neita to the NEiTA website and nominate a teacher today. Applications close on the 3rd of July. In Brief – Celebrating the Good Stuff • Some College students went over to the Aged Card to help conduct a belated ANZAC Day service. • The Year 2 students contributed to the family service last weekend. It was great to hear them sing, read bible verses and pray. • Year 4 students arrived at school on Monday to see their classrooms destroyed by a natural disaster. It was staged to mimic a natural disaster as a provocation to their latest Unit of Inquiry. The students are now really engaged in their next unit and have many questions that need answering. • Auskick and Boxball has been running for 2 weeks now. It great to see so many children actively involved in sporting pursuits. Upcoming Events 16th May – Mufti Day. The theme is Camouflage and funds
