The project: Abstract I am building a stereoscopic (often described as“3D”) animation tool, in remembrance of old film technologies and animation toys. The apparatus explores the notion of “real” and “imagined” space (aka “the illusion of space”), takes a playful glance at narrative structures while going back to classic storytelling technologies with childlike curiosity, yearning and nostalgia. This project, as I like to call it, is an apparatus that generates “physical fiction” – a term I use when fiction is brought out to communicate directly, and hence “physically” with the audience. It adapts the “Anaglyph Technology”, using “parallax” and the concept of “Persistence Of Vision” to create a miniature digital nickelodeon theater experience. The project is called “Persistence Of Nostalgia” as it looks back to antiquated storytelling systems and gives it a new age twist.
