SVA Welcomes Class of 2022 Into New Biomedical Program This year, Saint Vincent’s has seen marked growth in our

enrollment numbers. In September we were pleased to welcome 84 new young women into the freshman class. “They are energetic and excited to be the newest members of the school community,” says Ms. Jo-Ann Caporaso, one of the freshman teachers. We were also pleased to offer our new Biomedical Program, taught by Ms. Danielle Florio, to the incoming freshmen. Interested ninth grade candidates were invited to apply for the program, and 20 students were accepted. The program is offered by Project Lead The Way and will grow with the students during their four years at SVA. “Throughout the course of study, students will engage in hundreds of laboratory activities and experiences. The Biomedical Program as a whole provides students with exposure to various laboratory techniques and processes which will be beneficial to those interested in studying biology or medicine in college and beyond,” explains Ms. Florio. We are excited about this new program and the opportunities it holds for our students.

Friends in Concert SVA held our 33rd Friends in Concert gala on September 27th with an evening of generosity, gratitude and a lot of dancing. At this pivotal time in our history, we chose to honor our founders, the Sisters of Charity, and the stewards of our future, the new Board of Trustees. The event kicked off with a cocktail hour, during which guests enjoyed special displays and a video presentation highlighting SVA’s history. Event chairman, Domenick Cama, President and COO of Investors Bank, welcomed 243 guests who joined in celebrating SVA’s sesquicentennial. In his welcome, he spoke of our 100% graduation rate, encouraged guests to thumb through the ad journal to take special note of our wonderful supporters and introduced the new Board of Trustees. He then welcomed Sister June to the stage, who revealed that, in celebration of our 150th anniversary, an anonymous donor has offered SVA a challenge grant of $150,000 from new donations, not necessarily new donors. We are working hard on this goal and have set a second goal of raising another $150,000 from new donors. If you can help us, we would be most appreciative. Click here to help push us over the top.

Following a wonderful meal and great table conversation, Mary Nolan, Student Services Director, presented the Pelican Award to our founders, The Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth. General Superior Sister Rosemary Moynihan came to the stage to accept the Pelican award on behalf of the Sisters. Sister June presented the award to the Board of Trustees. The board received a beautiful stained glass art piece with the words ‘With Gratitude to Our Board of Trustees, Stewards of the Mission, Established July, 2018.’ The stained glass used to make the piece came from the original building, the Wallace Mansion. Before Sister June left the stage, she introduced Sister Angelica Doris to all our guests. Sister Angelica graduated from Saint Vincent in 1936. Her introduction produced an enthusiastic and thunderous round of applause. Capping off the presentation of continued on page 2
