St. Philomena School

OUR IDENTITY

Saint Philomena School of the Sacred Heart is a Catholic, independent, Sacred Heart school community founded and inspired by the Sisters Faithful Companions of Jesus We are sponsored and animated by the Religious of the Sacred Heart to educate the heart, mind, body and spirit of all God’s children. Our School is part of the 25 member schools in the Network of Sacred Heart Schools of the United States and Canada.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to foster the courage and confidence of children to discover, develop and use their God-given gifts and talents to transform the world for good.

OUR VALUES AND GOALS

Saint Philomena School of the Sacred Heart is a faith community of hope, excellence, dignity, companionship, and gentleness Our values are the pillars that hold up our identity as a Catholic school inspired by the charism of our founding Religious Order, The Society Faithful Companions of Jesus They also commit us to the Goals & Criteria that animate us as a school of the Sacred Heart. Our vision as an educational community is guided by these values and goals that we strive, with courage and confidence, to live out and share.

A LETTER FROM OUR HEAD OF SCHOOL

Dear Saint Philomena School Families and Supporters,

As we closed our 70th anniversary school year in June and sent forward 48 young women and men of courage and confidence, I can’t help but reflect on the significance our school has made in forming the values and character of generations of young people. All of us who love Saint Philomena School know that there is truly something special about this particular school community that often best translates to a feeling more so than words. For many, it is only after they have spent their childhood growing up at school on Cory’s Lane and move on that they look back with fondness on the incredible gift of the people, experiences and opportunities that are encountered here What lasts from generation to generation of Saint Philomena School graduates is the anchor of values and character formation that helped love every child into life. Schools like ours have never been more important in the lives of young people.

We can all take so much pride in a tremendous year of academic achievements, artistic pursuits and athletic excellence. It is only because of our tremendous faculty and staff that St. Philomena School is thriving as the largest Catholic elementary school in Rhode Island. As we embark on the 20242025 school year, we have the best enrollment we have seen in over a decade. Our advancement efforts continue to break new records Most importantly, we are grounded in our mission and anchored to our call to form the values and character of young people of courage and confidence who will transform the world for good

I cannot thank this community enough for all the ways you continue to rise to the challenge of sustaining this exceptional school We all know that if we don’t protect, sustain and advance schools like ours, children are the most impacted. Your generosity, time and most importantly, prayers ensure that young people come to discover, develop and use their God-given gifts and talents to transform the world for good!

Thank you for all the ways you made this school year so successful! Let’s set sail together and make this new school year even better!

Courage & Confidence,

“Character is now seen to be of more value than specialization in learning, and the demand is that schools should teach how to learn and how to live, rather than how to gain a living. If you give values, you give anchorage ”

“Nothing in life is perfect but when it comes to grade schools, Saint Phil’s comes pretty close I have been surrounded by teachers and administrators who truly care and foster kindness in us This is really what a family is - and so, Saint Phil’s has become part of my family ”

“Thanks to all who made the 2023-24 school year so successful! Your generosity helps in the tremendous work of Catholic education that goes on day by day at our school. It thrills me to ‘feel’ the same spirit I experienced during my 26 years at Saint Philomena’s continuing now both in and out of the classroom! Each time I visit, my heart fills with gratitude at the many ways God continues to bless our school and to see the young people growing in love of God and love of others! Thanks for being a part of that. All God’s blessing on you and your families.”

Beyond its exceptional academics and diverse extracurriculars, our school shines because it is a community of faith that guides every student to become the best version of themselves And it will always be ‘our school’ because no matter how many years it’s been since you’ve been on campus, the courage and confidence fostered at St Philomena School is the cornerstone to whatever else we build in our lives.”
