Economics & Finance Economics In this major, you won’t just learn about income, capital, and wellbeing but also, how math and statistics connect to topics like politics, law, history and psychology. The Economics major provides a strong foundation for careers in the business, nonprofit and government sectors as well as graduate degrees in economics, business, law and much more. Being just 12 minutes from New York City makes it possible for you to visit leading global and national financial institutions such as the New York Stock Exchange and the Federal Reserve Bank. Also, an economics degree also offers enormous flexibility in the careers you can pursue after graduation— everything from a market, policy or business analyst to a securities broker, bank officer or actuary.
Finance If you like problem solving, are detail-oriented, or find that you like watching the stock market and making predictions, the Finance major is for you. This major teaches the concepts and analytical tools needed to make financial decisions in a corporate setting. Careers exist in a variety of fields, including commercial and investment banking, insurance, corporate finance, money management, venture capital, risk management, and real estate.
Student Clubs and Activities CFA Institute Research Challenge The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual global competition where university-sponsored teams research and analyze financial markets and present their findings to a panel of judges. Students gain real-world experience as they take on the role of a research analyst. Every year, Saint Peter’s assembles a team of outstanding students to showcase their analytical, valuation, report writing, and presentation skills in competition.
Economics and Finance Association The EFA meets to collaborate on a range of different topics that are relevant to the industry. Guest speakers are frequently hosted and cover a variety trends. Whether it be CFOs talking about leading companies, HR reps discussing hiring techniques or academics presenting views on theories, there is something for everyone. The club also visits a variety of financial landmarks like the Federal Reserve bank of New York, the First and Second banks in Philadelphia and the American Museum of Finance.
Federal Reserve Challenge The Federal Reserve Challenge is a team competition for college students to analyze economic and financial situations and create a monetary policy recommendation. Students create a presentation for a panel of judges who are experts in economics and monetary policy.
Omicron Delta Epsilon Saint Peter’s University has an active chapter of Omicron Delta Epsilon, the international honor society in economics. The chapter enriches the learning among its members by going on field trips and engaging in research paper competitions.
Student Managed Investment Fund A newly launched real world investing program enables Saint Peter’s students to take stock market simulations to the next level with the University’s first Student Managed Investment Fund. Lord Abbett has generously donated $50,000 in funding for students to begin investing. Selected students will assume roles of portfolio analysts, market analysts, investment analysts and other professional roles and execute live trades informed by robust research and guided by faculty mentors.
