Health Sciences Honors Program Seniors Present Their Accomplishments

I

n May, Health Sciences Honors Program seniors presented their individual portfolios, including a summary of clinical hours. The final presentations are a vital part of the program, which strives to prepare young women for a life of compassionate leadership and service

in healthcare professions. Students in the program completed one of two pathways, Gold or Purple. Fourteen seniors completed the Gold Pathway that prepares students for success in a health sciences career that begins right after college graduation. The

KeyBank Event Highlights Finance Career Opportunities In April, twelve juniors accompanied by Math teacher Jill Satanek Garlock ’92, participated in the KeyBank Women’s Network at the KeyBank headquarters in downtown Cleveland. This was the second year that Saint Joseph Academy students were invited to the event. KeyBank executives provided an overview of their disciplines to help students understand the range of careers within finance, a field where women are underrepresented. They also enjoyed a tour of the offices, including the trading floor. Students who attended the event will also be given consideration in the future for summer internships where they will have hands-on project experience and network with management and other professionals. Purple Pathway prepares students for an education that extends past college towards a doctoral degree. The Purple Pathway was completed by seniors Sara Koussa (sister of Jiana Koussa ’13 and Bella Koussa ’14), Kathleen Loftus (sister of Maureen Loftus ’14, daughter of Maureen Sweeny-Loftus ’80, granddaughter of Bride Ann Sweeney ’50), Caroline Kilbane (sister of Elizabeth Kilbane ’18) and Lauren Krivanek. Graduates of the Purple Pathway presented to members of the Health Science Honors Program Advisory Board, including Dr. Frederick Frost, P’10 and ’15; Dr. Debbie Ghazoul-Mills ’79, P’13 and ’14; Dr. Kelly Hancock, P’17, all of the Cleveland Clinic; Dr. Amy Carruthers, P’18, of University Hospitals and Dr. Michael Gallagher, P’04 and ’09 (brother of Colleen Gallagher Thomas ’82) of Westpark Dental Associates. Students from these pathways are continuing their health science education at prestigious colleges and universities across the Midwest.
