Nyla Temple No. 152 Daughters of the Nile by Diane Nourse, Queen, merrymeetingdi@aol.com

anuary was a busy month for Nyla Temple. We had a regular session followed by the visit of our Supreme Queen Laura Richardson who lives right here in Bradenton. She is such a delightful lady. We were pleased to be hostesses to her. Our banquet was held at the Peridia Country Club and enjoyed by all our members, nobles and guests. We were also honored at the East-West Shrine Game. We attended a banquet the night before the game and then paraded on to the field at the beginning of the game on Saturday. There was sparkle everywhere from the crowns of the Queens. What a salute for the work we do for the Shriners Hospitals for Children.

February will be another busy month. We are helping our Sahib Shriners in their hospital drive for contributions for our Tampa hospital . Supreme Queen Laura will return home after her travels around the United States and Canada. She will visit the Tampa hospital to present a plaque for the million dollar donation, there will be tour and a banquet. After all is said and done, we will relax on a 7-day cruise to the Caribbean. We will report on these final events next month. Happy Valentine’s Day to all.

anuary kept the ladies of Sar-I Court very busy. We won’t have much time to relax this month either. By the time you read this, we will have our new “mushroom.” Yes, a new member of our line and future High Priestess. Mushroom? Yes, she will, as we say, be in the dark until May when she meets with her Grand Officer to find out her theme, symbols and motto. This is a fun time for our new line officer. She will be easy to spot. She’s the one with the mushroom corsage and the big smile. Our Fashion Show is Saturday, February 18. Our theme will be “Sea Fantasy” and will start at 11:00 a.m. at Laurel Oaks Country Club. The fashions will be by A’ Tu. This is an open event so come join us. Call Mary at 807-4011. $25.00 Deadline is February 12.

We are now in the planning stages of a Sunshine Unit meet to be held in November of 2013. This is a fun time to belong to a unit. Our units and our court are always looking for new members and if you would like to join us and have some fun as you help work for the kids at Shriners Hospitals for Children and other community projects. Or maybe you would just like to know a little more about us. You can call me at (941) 351-0332, the Recorder, Pam Trudel at (941) 3513020 or see one of our ladies when you visit Sahib. We are always happy to talk about the Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America.
