President's Message from Scott

Anyone else pining for warmer weather? Hopefully a real spring is right around the corner Nonetheless, while the golf course has been closed, our food and beverage outlets continue to serve Leslie tells me the club has experienced growing member dining especially for social events and special dining options (can you say ‘wine club’ or ‘prime rib night’) Surely, this is partly influenced by the F&B minimum as intended, and the great “culinary culture” the restaurant team is delivering

February Past Business

We reviewed the 2022 full-year financial results which showed a net loss of $116.7k, or -1.3% of Revenues – outside of our target range of +/- 1.0%. With all of the closures December was a rougher month than we expected with no time to make adjustments. Because of this operating loss and the club owning 30 Proprietary Memberships, the BOD feels it is essential to focus on addressing the opportunities to improve our membership base.

The Board approved the 2023 Capital Budget of $1.9M, as recommended by the Finance Committee. As a reminder, Capital dollars come from initiation fees and capital dues They pay for the replacement and purchase of our physical assets (e g , mowers, furniture, HVAC systems) as well as our debt service As we project over the next seven years, we expect an average of $1 5M each year to replace the assets that reach their end of expected use The approved 2023 Capital Budget also includes some new projects to improve member and guest experiences I would like to thank our Controller Siemon Slagter and the Finance Committee for helping to put us in this position where we have such a clear view of our long-term financial future

The Board discussed how to best communicate the membership and bylaws changes being considered now by the Golf, Membership and Finance Committees Before making any final determinations, we need to hear from all of the Committees as well as the membership It was agreed a Membership Information Session would be scheduled for this Thursday, March 9th at 5pm to share the current ideas being considered to gain additional feedback After the session and all of the Committee recommendations have been received, the Board will determine the best path forward for the long-term future of Sahalee The Board is truly excited about the changes being considered and believe collectively they will help Sahalee build a stronger Membership We encourage everyone to attend in person, but if you can’t we have decided to make the meeting virtually available

Sahalee was approached to host a “good of the game” event in 2028 (five years from now). These events are part of Sahalee’s Mission and Vision and help build our reputation within the Pacific Northwest. It’s a way of giving back to the game of golf. Rather than weighing good of the game selection decisions, the Board voted to authorize our Director of Golf to plan for a single good-ofthe game outside event each year (in addition to the Sahalee Player’s Championship). This also provides our Director of Golf with a firm policy that he can point to as the reason he must decline support in a given year with all of the requests he receives. This year, we approved support for the Seattle US Kids Golf Tour event on Sunday afternoon, June 11. The top players from each age division will play our course for their series finale.Additionally, we will be working with the AJGA on a special Washington Junior Cup Golf event for 24 junior golfers in early October. This event will help to support the First Tee of Seattle.

Lastly, the Board approved two new Members: Chase Wietecha a Junior Executive and Anton and Susan Wootliff – new Social Members Welcome to Sahalee!

Future Business

The Board’s primary focus is to review Committee recommendations of our future Membership strategy, and to share this with the Membership (March 9th at 5pm) Accordingly, we will publish the corresponding bylaw changes to membership and prepare for a formal vote and Special Meeting (TBD) As indicated before, these changes are all interlinked My best analogy is that of a jigsaw puzzle: each piece is important Missing one piece leaves an incomplete and less effective puzzle We do look forward to sharing our thoughts and findings with the membership later this week

Sincerely,

The Sahalee family warmly welcomes our new members!

Monthly Message from Leslie Ludlow, GM/COO

Dear Sahalee Country Club Family,

As we welcome the arrival of spring, I wanted to take this opportunity to update you on some exciting developments at your Club Home Over the past 4 months, we have been working hard behind the scenes to reorganize the duties of our key leaders. This approach to “right-sizing” our personnel is allowing the experts of each department to have a laser focus on their individual areas of expertise. This strategic shift has allowed us to capitalize on several hundred years of combined experience within our team to ensure the best possible member experience across all areas of our club including golf, facility maintenance, events, food & beverage, and communications When looking at the talented individuals that now can focus on what they do best, it is not an understatement to say we have the strongest leadership team under one roof in the Pacific Northwest that is excited to serve you.

Upcoming February Events

We spent the month of February focused on team building and setting structures for internal communications, processes, and procedures. We are confident that these changes will allow us to elevate service across all departments and better support our membership growth and retention goals heading into the spring

One area that has already seen the benefits of this new approach is our Food and Beverage operations. In February, Justin, Chef, Alexa and team delivered several sold-out events, including a romantic Valentine's Day dinner, the return of pasta night, and an electric Friday night wine tasting with Orin Swift that captured the pre-COVID energy in our dining room We are excited to continue this momentum with several creative events on the horizon Get ready for both the return of old favorites as well as never-beforeseen pop-up offerings! Did someone say, Starter Shack Sandwich Smackdown?

Of course, our commitment to elevating service extends beyond the dining room. Charlie, Bryan, Pat, Caleb, and their respective teams are focused on delivering the best possible experience for our members and guests on our world-class course As we look to the forecast, it appears that frost delays may be quickly becoming a distant memory; soon, we will get to “enjoy” playing out of our new bunkers across all (3) nines. With the weather warming up, so too will our golf calendar of events. This year the golf operations team will host over 100 unique events throughout the upcoming year – including member tournaments and events, instructional clinics, demo days, junior golf programming, and non-member events. Additionally, this upcoming season will be decorated by the return of the Sahalee Player’s Championship!

Our Membership and Clubhouse operations teams are also focused on providing exceptional customer service across all touchpoints. Deann and Sarah are both hard at work revamping our Membership & Event collateral, redefining sales processes, developing our new member orientation, and diving into different ways to both elevate and streamline our club communications. In facilities, Vinny has several projects in motion from finalizing the locker room updates including paint, carpet, amenities to getting the final touches on the dining rooms squared away.

Finally, all these great happenings can be defined in success by two measures, member satisfaction and financial results. The team has been receiving a lot of positive feedback from you over the past month since many of these changes have been implemented, but what are they looking like on the financial side of the coin? In February Siemon outlined processes to push the team for timely information to provide accurate results as well as a formalized financial calendar to keep the team accountable. While the past 4 months have been the “off-season,” I can assure you that the Leadership Team and staff have been busier than ever setting systems in place to support what is sure to be an incredible year. I want to thank you, our members, for your continued support and loyalty to Sahalee Country Club. As always, if you have any questions, comments, or feedback, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I am always here to help and to make your experience at Sahalee the best it can be

Sincerely,

Letter From Bryan Nicholson, PGA Director of Golf

I’m not sure about you, but I am happy to have February in the rearview mirror! At the beginning of last month, America’s beloved groundhog meteorologist declared we will have a longer winter. Punxsutawney Phil rose from his burrow and saw his shadow, meaning that spotting his shadow translated into six more weeks of winter. I’m not sure I put a lot of stock into our furry friend, but his prediction of an extended winter isn’t too far off from reality. Much of the West Coast has been inundated with record snowfall and much colder than average temperatures – including 21 days consecutive (and counting) of below normal high temps for the Plateau. This hasn’t been favorable for golf, as we had 12 closed days for the course from either snow cover or freezing cold throughout the month However, our sunsets are now after 6:00 pm, and with the days getting longer, I can feel that spring is surely going to be better than the close of winter!

We have some exciting golf events on the horizon to kickoff the 2023 golf season Our Sahalee Men’s Division will host their annual opener on Saturday, March 18 with the appropriately named “Frostbite Open ” This will be a great mixer opportunity as teams will be created by separating the field into “A”, “B”, “C” and “D” players based on course handicaps

The format will be a shamble, using one net and one gross score from each team The team scores will be converted to Stableford points, which will make for some fun competition. After the kickoff event, we will host our annual draw for the Men’s Invitational field, which currently has over 130 applicants. There is still time to get into these great events (or register for the lottery draw for the Invitational), so please login into Golf Genius to add your name, or call the golf shop for assistance.

Later in March, on Friday the 24th, we will host a spring “Husky Day” at the Club. This is a great opportunity to play with some of the top student-athletes from the defending PAC-12 Champions. Currently UW is ranked in the Top 30 of the NCAA, and the top 3 players, Taehoon Song, Petr Hruby, and Bo Peng, are amongst the top 150 players in all of Division 1 Men’s Golf. Come join the team for a fun afternoon, and the event is open to anyone that would like to play. Teams will play a one low gross and one low net best ball competition while on the course Afterward, the team will be joined by Coach Alan Murray for a discussion on our upcoming Sahalee Player’s Championship in September Registration for the Husky Day is available through Golf Genius

In early April, all eyes will be on this small town in northeast Georgia, and one of the premier golf events of the year, The Masters A tradition unlike any other in golf, we are looking forward to hosting our very own “Par 3” tournament, on Wednesday, April 5 from 2 – 5 pm One of our Sahalee sides will be transformed into a par 3, and each contestant’s score will be added to a player they randomly select that is participating in the Masters Par 3 tournament Create your own foursome, and enjoy some Masters themed food either before or after the event. Scoring will be individual – both gross and net. By the way – the trophies for this event are going to be really, really cool! I would recommend coming out to join this fun with some friends!

This month, the practice tee and the range fairway will soon look refreshed! Charlie and his team will be installing new PVC targets on the range with various colors to enhance the practice experience Targets will be established at 25-yard intervals throughout the range (starting at 75 yards) and going through 250 yards The purpose of this to have more targets to practice toward when hitting various clubs in your bag We are also excited to introduce our new custom practice tee furniture, with matching bag stands, range dividers, range sign, amenities boxes, and golf ball containers Sahalee is one the premier clubs in the country, and our practice area is highly visible from the clubhouse and is often the first impression of members and guests upon arrival to the Club We desire to showcase a practice area that is reflective of our brand, and reflects our Sahalee mission of providing an outstanding golf experience

Throughout the spring, many of our Club vendor partners will be visiting Sahalee to introduce you to the new 2023 products. Your 14 friends in the bag should be helping you to play your best! I recently came across a very interesting article in Golf Digest that shared some data from Arccos Golf. According to Arccos, as we move from our 20s to our 60s, we lose almost 50 yards in distance. Even more distressing, the bulk of that drop (about 35 yards) happens after age 50. What we lose in power, however, we gain in accuracy. Arccos data reveals that players in their 20s and 30s hit the fairway barely 40 percent of the time. However, golfers in their 60s and 70s are hitting more than half their fairways, and those in their 70s hit the short grass 55 percent of the time.

Some keys to remember when thinking about your own bag:

Do you carry a hybrid? They will always beat their comparable irons head-to-head Are hybrids the smarter choice over the corresponding irons they replace? The answer is yes for just about all handicaps and for every loft Golfers from scratch to 25-handicappers who hit a 3-, 4- or 5-hybrid were 87 percent more likely to hit the green according to Arccos than with the corresponding iron

Have you been fit for wedges and what is your approach to short game? Wedges are worn after 75 rounds – and the launch monitor numbers will prove it Additionally, all manufacturers are producing wedges with various “grinds” to help the club more effectively move through the turf when striking the ball If you want to improve in your scoring clubs – start with making sure the tools in your hands are correct for your technique and approach around the green. Have you checked your carry distances? We play the game through the air – and knowing how far the ball will travel is dependent on air time rather than ground time. If you haven’t checked – you should consider making certain that you have the proper distance gapping between all of the clubs in your bag. How bad might it be? I see many members that are carrying long irons in their bag – and their 7 iron flies further than a 5-iron. You’re allowed 14 clubs in the bag, but let’s make sure all 14 are playable and all 14 serve a purpose!

If you’d like to schedule an appointment to join one of our fitting days, or if you’d like to be fit by one of the Sahalee Golf Professionals, we would be delighted to help support your goals and journey with the game of golf!

See you on the tee!

Bryan

2024 KPMG Championship Player Spotlight

Each month leading up to our Championship next June, we will feature a different player that is scheduled to compete at Sahalee We hope you’ll take this opportunity to learn more about the players that will make up the strongest field in Women’s Professional Golf – the Women’s PGA Championship!

Our first player in this series needs very little introduction, as her accomplishments since bursting into the scene of Women’s Professional Golf have been extraordinary Nelly Korda is the younger sister of Jessica by five years and turned professional in 2016 Thus far, she has had a decorated professional career which was preceded by an equally impressive amateur career After turning pro, Nelly competed on the Symetra Tour and won the 2016 Sioux Falls GreatLIFE Challenge, which was her first professional event. The win earned her an LPGA Tour card in 2017, and she hasn’t looked back since then. Her first LPGA win came at the 2018 Swinging Skirts LPGA Taiwan Championship, and Nelly continued her success with multiple victories in her 2019 and 2020 season. Nelly’s breakout season was two years ago in 2021 Korda finished the LPGA season with four wins, including her first LPGA major, the Women’s PGA Championship at Atlanta Athletic Club where she cleared the field by three strokes. Later that summer in August of 2021, Nelly won a gold medal for the U.S. at the Summer Olympics (the first for the U.S. since 1900). Korda went on to finish the 2021 season as the top women’s golfer in the world After a medical scare which sidelined her for part of 2022, Nelly has since returned to great form, and looks to add to her 8 total career LPGA Tour titles Currently ranked #2 in the world, Nelly has her eyes set on the Solheim Cup later this year in Spain!

A Note from our SWD Captain

Based on our Fall 2022 survey, 90% of respondents said they’d like more golf clinics and we’re on it! After all, who doesn’t want to play better, armed with confidence, and enjoy lower scores? We all do! Our Pro Shop is providing a series of 4 hour-long clinics for SWD members Space will be limited since Bryan’s goal is to have 5 ladies per pro for each group Watch for an email for your schedule preferences

Sessions will be:

Determining When to Use Fairway Woods, Hybrids or Irons.

“Winter Golf” is almost over, as our regular season starts in April. It’s been very popular this year with 10-12 ladies of all abilities playing a casual game and having fun together on Saturday mornings. It’s an easy way to meet some new ladies and enjoy the camaraderie of golf; there are no competitions. When you want to join in the fun or have questions how this works, contact Sue Ursino at sursino@comcast.net.

The monthly seminars for SWD members are underway and well attended with an average of 20 participating. These sessions are valuable for everyone, regardless of golf capabilities The feedback from attendees has been very positive and quite a boost for Sue Ursino, our leader Make these learning opportunities a priority and consider staying for lunch afterwards with your friends

The remaining sessions are:

April 1, 9-11: Pace of Play Tips & “Ready Golf”, presented by Michelle Hood & Pro Laura Kraft

May 6, 9-11: The Mental Side of Golf, Pro Shop

June 3, 9-11: Match Play Strategies, presented by Sue Ursino

One of the goals for this year is to increase our Major Tournament participation Last year we only had between 14 - 29% of our members playing in these events Given all the time, effort and planning of our organizers and pro shop, let’s step it up for everyone and have fun!

The Captain’s Cup is our first tournament and has such a flexible schedule, most ladies can fit it in between work, kiddos and vacations. It’s a 3-day Match Play event starting on or after April 26 and you schedule your own matches, set your own date, set your own time, following the deadlines which span our season. If you win your match, you move on to the next one. You will play a minimum of 1 match and a maximum of 3. In 2022 we had 29 members play the Captain’s Cup – let’s DOUBLE that! Jeannie Link is chairman, has put a lot of effort into organizing this, so let’s support her and SWD! (Watch for more details via email.)

All new members and any existing SWD member who wants help “fitting in” will be offered a Golf Buddy to guide, give an understanding of our competitions, casual golf and introduce her around. We need YOU to be a Golf Buddy if you are friendly, enjoy meeting ladies, “know the ropes” and want to make SWD better and more inclusive. Please contact Sue Ursino, sursino@comcast.net or 425-392-2056.

The first official SWD golf event springs us into our “Season Opener” mixer on Tuesday, April 25th We’ll have a 9 AM shotgun start, play a 9-hole Shamble and enjoy lunch afterwards, meeting newcomers and enjoying the ladies we already know I think we’re all ready to put winter behind us and get back in the swing of things!

SPC Update

The Sahalee Players Championship (SPC) is the Men’s College event that Sahalee will be hosting on an annual basis starting in September 2023 Co-Hosted by UW Men’s Golf and Sahalee, the SPC will be one of the best fields in College Golf, showcasing the beauty and pure golf course that Sahalee is. The expected field includes Arizona, Arizona State, Duke, Illinois, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, Stanford, Texas, USC, Wake Forest, and Washington

Tournament Update – Countdown to September 2023

The exact dates are September 8th – 10th, 2023. The 8th (Friday) will be the official practice round for the teams, the 9th (Saturday) will be a 36-hole competition day, and the 10th (Sunday) will be the final 18-hole competition day. Here is a summary of the latest updates:

UW / SPC Golf Event – March 24th – Signups NOW OPEN!

Please mark your calendars for Friday, March 24th! Sahalee members will be paired up with members of the UW team for a friendly and fun competition The goal is to educate everyone on the SPC, and for all members and UW players to make connections All this is to help the SPC succeed better We hope to see you at Sahalee on March 24th!

Sponsorship Update – There are additional sponsorship packages available for the SPC, with the final details and prospectus being finalized by the end of April. If you or your company (or any company you know) are interested in Sponsorship opportunities with the SPC - please contact Chris Grusz

Volunteers –We will need: Walking Scorers, Standard Bearers, ForeCaddies, and hosts, as well as select opportunities for host housing. For general Volunteer questions or interest, please contact Kim Shek, and for Housing questions, please contact Jeannine Gibson.

Team Hosts - Each team participating in the tournament will be assigned a Team Host This is not necessarily a Host for housing, but more like a single point of contact for coaches and players to interact with directly about anything to do with Sahalee, the tournament, or the area Kent Martin is heading up this team, so please contact Kent if you are interested in being a Team Host.

2024 Update– Success for the SPC is driven by the quality of field that we attract to play at the tournament. For future success, we must really succeed in 2023, but given the busy schedules and rapid development of the college golf game, we must start our recruiting of teams for 2024 already! We are off to a great start in this endeavor, as we have already received commitments from Florida, North Carolina, and USC. We expect more to come in the next few weeks as dates for other events in 2024 start to firm up.

UW Men’s Golf Update

The Spring season is now in its prime, and the Huskies begin a busy spring in competition at the Lampkin Invitational in San Diego The Huskies will play several tournaments leading up to the Pac 12 Conference tournament at Stanford in April, followed by NCAA Regionals with the culmination being the NCAA Championship at Grayhawk in Scottsdale The best way to follow the Huskies and all college golf is at Golfstat (www golfstat com)

Thanks for reading and hope to see you all at the event in March and volunteering with the SPC

Sincerely,

1 2 3. 4 5

What is the Wine Club?

With the food and beverage minimum including all beverage sales, the Wine Club has been a topic of conversation recently I would like to explain how the Wine Club works for those members that haven’t yet taken advantage of this fantastic benefit!

For a one-time $50 fee, the Wine Club is a way for members to buy wine through the club at very reduced rates for take home use We typically have two wine features per month – one that is only communicated to WC members through email and a complimentary tasting at the club; usually on a Friday night later in the month For each of these features, WC members have a set length of time to order individual wines from the feature This allows us to collect a large order that gives us the best possible price from our distributors The order will be charged to the member’s account in the month that it was placed, which counts against the food and beverage minimum for the quarter, and assembled once the delivery is made. The member is then notified by email that their order is ready and can be picked up by speaking to the bartender or manager on duty. Wine Club pricing is not honored in the dining room and is not typically allowed to be ordered from the current wine list to be taken home. This is to protect the integrity of the dining room wine list as we don’t keep a large inventory of each wine on this list. Special order can be made, but may incur a minimum order from the distributor.

Features

Cost plus 15% on WC featured wines, not including tax

Discounted corkage fee in the restaurant ($10 per 750ml bottle)

Monthly emails with exclusive wine offerings

Priority invitations to wine events (ability to sign up early for certain events)

March is Taste Washington Wine Month!

In honor of Taste Washington Wine Month we will be featuring a white and a red wine from two of our favorite Washington vintners – Mark Ryan Winery and Sparkman Cellars! We will be pouring each of these four wines by the glass in the restaurant for the entire month of March.

Mark Ryan Winery est. 1999

Lu & Oly by Mark Ryan ‘We Sat By The Ocean’ white blend

This Chardonnay and Viognier blend is aged in a combination of stainless steel and French oak that gives it a beautifully balanced acidity with flavors of pear, apple and nectarine

Mark Ryan ‘Wild Eyed’ Syrah

A beautifully heavy, inky core with notes of plum, raspberry and a touch of spice. A wonderful textured finish that lingers pleasantly on your tongue.

Sparkman Cellars est. 2004

Sparkman ‘Holler’ Cabernet Sauvignon

This wine has been in the Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines twice (in 2013 and 2018)! An intense Cabernet that is deep and structured with a bouquet of blackberry, vanilla and forest air that leads into dark fruits and chocolate on the palate with a refined tannin and acid balance finish

Sparkman ‘Pearl’ Sauvignon Blanc

This is an interesting blend of fruit and minerality that has a great nose of melon, lemongrass and grapefruit. An intense burst of lemon and grapefruit with a bit of floral chamomile and a little bit of chalk and stone.

Thank you!
