Dream Homes are Blossoming at Saguaro Ranch

Across the property, homeowners are eagerly engaged and working with their builders, architects, and designers to craft their dream homes on this once-in-a-lifetime property. The development is moving along at a clip, with 10-12 estate lot homes under design review or getting ready to break ground, and about seven homes currently under construction.

“We’re dealing with a difficult, rocky terrain,” says Scott Lundberg, president of Saguaro Property Development, LLC. “Our property is between 3,0004,000 feet of elevation with 17,000 saguaro cacti and over 1,200 acres.” Each custom home site is between one and five acres, promising commanding views, exceptional proximity to wildlife, and an elevated living experience. “Some of the best world-class architects are working on projects at Saguaro Ranch,” said Lundberg. “We’re in this for the long haul; we’re here

Homeowners Profile

Lori Escalante, president and CEO of Escalante Concrete, visited Saguaro Ranch after she found out her company would be pouring foundations for the homes. The moment she pulled into the community, she fell in love. “I have lived in the Tucson area my whole life, I grew up here,” she said, “and I just think Saguaro Ranch is one of the most beautiful places in the Southern Arizona area. It’s like a national park back there!”

Escalante purchased a Miramonte lot with panoramic views overlooking Tucson and mountain vistas. “It’s just beautiful. I’m on a ridge top, and I can probably see all the way to Mexico on a clear day,” she laughs. Her home is currently under construction and will be just as individual as any of those in Saguaro Ranch. In addition to her upgrades to the interior, she says, “I did quite a bit of customization of the outdoor space, especially the guest house which doubles as a pool house. It’s functional but perfect for hosting parties or family gatherings.”

“I’m really excited for the future when the community is filled with neighbors. I think it will draw people that share a love of nature and the beautiful Sonoran Desert,” she says. Escalante purchased Moonlight Canyon Lot 05 for herself, and Lot 37 as an investment property. “It’s the views, the landscape, the proximity to town and the I-10. It’s just everything.”

Critter Story Architects Corner

If you’re lucky enough to see one of these fabulous lizards in Saguaro Ranch, here’s a little bit about the critters who share our desert home. The Gila monster is native to the southwestern United States and northwestern Mexico. These slow-moving creatures are known for their distinctive appearance, with bright orange and black scales and stocky build. Despite their fearsome reputation, Gila monsters are quite docile and are not aggressive toward humans unless provoked.

Gila monsters primarily spend their time hiding in burrows or under rocks. They are active during the day and most seen during the spring and summer months. They are carnivorous and feed on a variety of prey, including small mammals, frogs, insects, birds, and reptiles.

While their bite is extremely painful, it is not usually fatal to humans. Gila monsters are protected by law in Arizona and are considered an important part of the desert ecosystem.

Near the entry gate sits Lot 08, featuring mounds of majestic boulders and plentiful mature saguaros that makes this a special place. “We’re hugging into these natural features,” says architect Greg Simmons. “We want the homeowner to really enjoy it, almost as if the natural world is an easy extension of the master bathroom and bedroom suite on the east side of the property.”

Simmons is a licensed designer with a strong reputation in the Tucson area. On Lot 08, he’s building a spec home for an investor client that promises to capture every magical aspect of the property. “On the west side,” he continues, “there’s a high peak and a wash right off the study that attracts wildlife like coyotes, deer, and more. We call this area the sunset patio. It’s a destination area.”

The house itself is desert modern, working with elements and colors that are found in the desert, from the natural stone to the color of the stucco walls. When looking through the house from the front, you can take in the sparkling backyard pool below breathtaking vistas of the Tortolita Mountains.

Estate Lot 68

At the moment, only estate Lot 68 remains available. With views of the Tortolita Mountains and Pusch Ridge, this remaining estate lot offers captivating views of the Catalina Mountains to the east, sunset views to the west, and its own little canyon. This 4.5-acre lot offers true serenity.

Renowned architect Ron Robinette has designed an example of a single level floor plan taking advantage of the expansive views from the spectacular lot. Please contact the Sales Team for more information.

Builder’s Corner

Builder Kelly Copeland considers it an honor to be able to build for an architect, which is exactly what he’s doing for Saguaro Ranch lead architect Ron Robinette on estate Lot 97. With big open views of the Catalina Mountains and Mount Lemmon, Copeland’s custom build is well under way, and they’ve already begun to frame.

“The name of this house is ‘Five Porches.’ It includes overhangs that shade any type of glass area to reduce heat, and features Net Zero, a new style of building that makes the home energy efficient,” he explains. It uses a lot of concrete, steel, and of course, employs five porches to give the homeowner plenty of opportunities to take in the natural surroundings.

Copeland has built many standout properties in Tucson, and is excited about this one. “I love this project,” he says, “it’s architecturally unique.”

to build the most prestigious development in the Southwest.”

Attention to detail is the name of the game at Saguaro Ranch, and sometimes that takes a little extra time. Lundberg explains that, because of the challenging terrain and focus on precision, “you don’t just build a home and have it up in 9-12 months. When you’re patient, greatness follows. Detail and perfection is what we’re after.”

Lundberg loves visiting the site. “Each time you go back down, you see a lot of changes.” Like many others, he is excited to see the community grow into itself and shine bright as a beacon of just how exquisite a development can be.

“I always enjoy working in desert settings because of what we have to work with. Whether it’s our work, or that of other architects in the neighborhood, we’re all approaching the property the same way and asking, ‘how can we create a property that blends beautifully into the serene environment?’”

The desert will come right up to the courtyard wall of this home, which is shaping up to be a one-of-a-kind desert oasis.
