Summer is no time to stop reading! Reading for just a few minutes every day can maintain the skills learned at school to be ready for the next grade level. But summer is a time for fun and relaxation, too, so we offer you and your

child a few different ways to complete the summer reading assignment. Will it be Calendars, Bingo Boards or a Library summer program? Choose the one that works best for your family and have fun!

Choice #1 Calendars During July and August, read for pleasure and check off on the calendar each day when you read for 15 minutes or more. Count everything you read including books, menus, magazines, cereal boxes, internet sites--you name it! First and second graders will need their parents’ help to complete the assignment and to read aloud to their children. Looking for a great free website that really can teach children to read and love doing it? Go to Starfall.com, choose a level and let the learning begin!
