2022 ANNUAL REPORT
AtSAFY,
we see hidden strengths where others might see vulnerabilities. We recognize that every youth, every family, and every community we serve is brimming with potential, resilience, and the capacity for success. This strength-based perspective guides our work and transforms the lives of those we touch.
It’s about making a profound difference in the world. It’s about acknowledging the strengths within each youth and family, nurturing those strengths, and helping them rise above challenges. It’s about empowering, supporting, and inspiring. From our frontline direct care staff who amplify the voices of youth and families to the administrative staff who ensure our mission’s smooth sailing – every part played makes a difference in building stronger communities across our 26 divisions and 7 states.
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all of our staff, community partners, and supporters. Thank you for embodying such passion and dedication. Thank you for persevering through our challenging times. Your influence is immeasurable, and I am so proud to stand beside you as we continue to Preserve Families and Secure Futures.

Matt, SAFY President & CEO
“I love SAFY because there is always room for change and growth. The child welfare system is far from perfect, and at SAFY, we can do better than the systems we operate in. Everyone truly cares and is mission-driven. We are social justice warriors, genuinely caring for one another and the people we serve.”

Permanency
SAFY recognizes permanency as a fundamental need for a youth’s emotional and psychological well-being. Providing a stable, permanent home for youth, whether by offering services to preserve the family structure, supporting grandparents raising grandchildren, or developing the skills of foster families to keep youth stable in their homes, offers a sense of security,
belonging, and continuity. It means youth can build lasting relationships, trust in a reliable support system, and develop a strong sense of identity. SAFY’s mission, Preserving Families, Securing Futures, drives us to our goal for all we serve. When we can provide our youth with permanency, we are building strong communities that foster the full potential of all.
How SAFY Foster Parents Support Permanency
When Foster Parent Josh was asked about his favorite part of fostering, he said reunification. “I know prospective foster parents are scared to get attached, but I can’t express enough how wonderful it has been to care for Paul’s children while he gets back on his feet. I’ll miss the kids like crazy when they leave, but I’m thankful I could give Paul peace of mind, knowing they were safe, together, and loved. Just because they will leave my home doesn’t mean it’s goodbye forever. We’ll see each other again.”
When Paul was asked about Josh, he said, “What can I say? He made the darkest, most horrible part of my life easier to manage. He always supported me, had my back, and advocated for my kids and me. You know when people say, ‘light at the end of the tunnel’? That’s Josh for my family. He’s that light, and he celebrates everything I’ve been
