A Great Year in Sport - 2010!!! 2010 was a great year for sport in Britain! The premier league was a memorable one, also the world cup was a memorable one! The Ladybridge High Sports Mania reports on sport in 2010. We’ve got an expert on Chelsea FC and also how sport has gone on through the year in school. Premier League Football

Year 10/11 Rugby Team

Chelsea FC are melting to the ground. After a magnificent win last season and a brilliant start to this season, Chelsea FC has started to droop in performance. Unlike their previously victorious matches in which they were winning by scores such as 5-0 and 6-0, they are now losing to amateur teams like Wolverhampton and Newcastle United. The sheer effort that the team has been contributing hasn’t been a great deal. The question is, as all the other premier league teams are succeeding and Chelsea are under-achieving, does Chelsea FC have what it takes to pull back their weight and go for the win? Contact Us with your views!

School Rugby Team. After years of training and experience, the KS4 rugby team have finally got what it takes to win. The word ‘Fearless’ could be used to describe our team members as we stand for all we have. Through the years as we have advanced, some of us came up with an amazing idea to teach the younger students how to play rugby. A group of pupils decided to gather the KS3 rugby teams together for the pupils to train them after school on Thursdays. This was a huge success as many players improved immediately, the pupils didn’t only focus on the fitness side of rugby but also looked at the different techniques and tactical decisions in which to perform in a game situation.

The Ashes The Ashes were probably the highlight of 2010 for England fans as the thrashed the Australians 3-1 in the series. England beat the Aussies by an innings and 83 runs. Last time England won the Ashes when played in Australia was in 1986. The crowd in the final innings were almost totally made of England fans as the celebrated as England took the match. David Cameron said the teams’ victory was a “fantastic achievement.” Cricket fans in England stayed up to the late hours to witness the extravagant victory.

Commonwealth Games 2010 2010 held host to the XIX Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India from the 3rd to the 14th of October, A total of 6,081 athletes from 71 Commonwealth nations and dependencies competed in 21 sports and 272 events. In the beginning, a lot of countries had doubts about India suitability as a sporting host. With problems came more reporters in the area, discovering even more problems. Many of the British team, refused to take part claiming that their safety is paramount. Despite all this the games went very well with Australia coming 1st, India 2nd and England 3rd. Our gold success mostly came from Gymnastics, Aquatics, Shooting and Athletics, with other disciplines proving our ability as a sporting nation so close to London 2012.

World Cup 2010 Africa 2010. What more needs to be said, we waited four long years for the World Cup and it arrived last year. We can’t say it let us down, the team spirit and the brilliant atmosphere in Africa could be felt hundreds of miles away back in England. Although England didn’t do too well in the games, we can safely say a few of their games left us on the edge of our seats. Advancing through the group stages, hopes were high for England fans, however a disappointing loss against Germany meant England were out. But we still were proud of the players and welcomed them home with pride. The final saw Spain take on Netherlands, millions of people across the world anxiously sat at their screens just waiting to find out who won the World Cup, and as we know it was a 1-0 win to the great Spanish. The closing ceremony saw the queen of Spain and Africa’s past president Nelson Mandela bless the stadium, as vuvuzelas reached their climax sounds. I am sure we all look forward to the next World Cup games in Brazil 2014.
