SADHIA SARWAR

“ Design is a frame for life, it makes us feel human, it makes us feel alive...” Ilse Crawford.

This quote really resonates and sums up what inspires me as a designer. Having graduated from Manchester School of Art, MMU with a BA (Hons) in Interior Design I am looking forward to gaining as much exposure as I can in the industry.

After a previous professional career in healthcare I have a host of soft skills and strengths to offer which translate well to dealing with clients, suppliers and working in a team setting. Organisation and diligence are my strengths, and entering this sector from a different background, has demonstrated my aptitude to learn new skills. Healthcare design and human centric design is an area of interest I chose to focus my research on as part my dissertation module and formed the basis of my final project. The opportunity to work in the sector of health and wellness design is a personal aspiration I hope to achieve. This portfolio demonstrates some choice projects from my university studies where I learnt a varied skill set in research, concept development, spatial planning and technical communication in 2D and 3D form as well as professional practice. Also included are some highlights of my home renovation where I took a significant role in project management, specification, sourcing and team collaborattion.

Residential Design

Clapham, Ground Floor House Share

Residential House Share, Ground Floor Clapham, London

Brief : Design the ground floor common areas of a shared 4 bedroom property. The ground floor is approx 155 sqm. Clients are young professionals. A kitchen, dining space, living area, bathroom and utility room will be included in the space which is part of a semi detached Victorian build where existing features are to be retained.

PHYSICAL SAMPLE PRESENTATION

This project focussed on kitchen and bathroom planning, following regulations and ensuring a functional and ergonomic proposal. A broken plan arrangement with a large, functional kitchen, dining area and communal living area suited to socialising and entertaining is proposed. A neutral colour palette ties the space together with statement Mid-century Modern and Bohemian sourcing to give a modern take on vintage. Guided by the client, there are subtle references to the client’s travels, background and interests. Borrowing from the relaxed feel of Boho designs and adding a more contemporary take with a beach villa look, the design creates an eclectic space which is informal but sophisticated.
