We’re here in Auburn, CA with Denise and Mark, owners of Forever Yours.

[Mark] “We’ve been here in our current location a little over two years now after moving from West Sacramento, where we had a shop since 1997. We are a full service florist and also have a wide variety of unique gifts. We like to think outside the box in our flowers and our gifts. Here at Forever Yours we build things according to people’s budgets. If you have a lower budget that’s okay, it’ll still turn out beautifully.”

[Denise] “We do have vignettescoordinated product lines. One of my favorite product lines is Michelle Design Works, an incredible line of high end soaps and lotions.

[Denise] “Our shop also has a lot of vintage items, antiques, silk stems and arrangements. We have local people come in just to visit because they love the atmosphere-we love it.”

[Mark] “We take pride in our work; you’re going to get your money’s worth here and then some. We are a seasonal shop as well. We go big on fall but Christmas is our biggie. Every year we have an annual two day open house mid-November where we give away raffle prizes, and have hors d’oeuvres-just welcoming the community in to get a jump start on their holiday shopping.

We turn this place into a winter wonderland!”

tremendous reward. For romance I think that Old Faithful is the way to go—red roses paired with chocolates. We actually had somebody propose in our shop on Valentine’s Day one year. The customer said, ‘I really love you guys, you’re great people, the shop’s awesome and I come here all the time. Is there any way on Valentine’s Day I can propose to my girlfriend here?’ We had a metal arbor, a bistro set, lighted candles and spread out rose petals. She said yes and they came full circle and we ended up doing their wedding.”

Keeping Plants Happy FERTILIZE every month. Most plants like a little boost to keep them looking their best.

DEADHEAD SPENT BLOOMS Keep the blooms coming by removing spent blooms from your flowering plants.

ORCHIDS are a plant category of their own. Water orchids sparingly with ice cubes to prevent blooms dropping from over watering (one ice cube a week).

REMOVE DECORATIVE WRAPPERS as soon as possible. Drainage keeps plant roots happy.

LESS FREQUENT but deep watering is most effective. Don’t let your plant sit in standing water; let it drain after watering.

GET THE LIGHT RIGHT Place your plants near light but never in direct sunlight.

MANY BLOOMING PLANTS are meant to be outdoor plants. After the blooms are spent, find a happy home for your blooming plant in your garden or in an outdoor container.

EXTENDING CUT FLOWER LIFE LOCATION MATTERS. Keep Flowers in a cool place and away from direct sunlight if possible. Avoid vents with blowing air.

PRESERVATIVE FEEDS THE BLOOMS. Add commercial plant food to the water every time you change the water.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE WATER. Always remember to keep water levels up!

Change the water when cloudiness appears.

TRIM OR REMOVE SPENT FLOWERS AND FOLIAGE. Keep your arrangement looking its best by taking out wilted blooms or leaves. This also prevents contamination of the water and increases the longevity of your arrangement.

RECUT STEMS AFTER A FEW DAYS. Every few days, cut 1” from each stem at an angle to bypass clogged stems. Your flowers will draw water and the blooms will be happy longer.

BE MINDFUL OF CULTURE. Certain cultures have very specific traditions. For example, Muslims won’t appreciate a cross, and Eastern Orthodox place the highest value on white flowers.

PHOTOGRAPHS ADD A VISUAL PERSPECTIVE. A photo image of your Loved one in a wreath of flowers can be a fitting tribute.

REMEMBER THEIR PASSIONS OR THEIR CAREER. If you know specific details of passions of the Loved one, your florist can incorporate a symbol of those passions, such as a baseball cap, or golf club.
