President Ann Marie Krejcarek Dear Alumni and Friends, In our current strategic plan, Looking Ahead with 2020 Vision, Area of Impact III holds an objective that articulates our aspirations for the value of our school community in the lives of alumni. In the objective, the school commits to creating “a culture of excellence, professionalism and innovation [that] is evident throughout the school and through constituents’ lifelong relationship with Convent & Stuart Hall.” We hope this Bulletin serves as a window into how a Schools of the Sacred Heart San Francisco education continues to play a rich and central role for alumni — intellectually, spiritually and physically — and how so many graduates continue to live into Goal 3, finding within themselves a social awareness that impels them to act. The stories shared in this issue are moving and inspiring. They span generations of graduates, yet their messages are timeless. Articles celebrate the diverse triumphs and achievements of our growing and vibrant alumni community and feature lifelong educators who have made a difference for generations of Convent & Stuart Hall students. The Bulletin has been recharged and redesigned to invite and keep alumni involved as a vital part of our school. RIDING THE WAVES

A SURFING PIONEER REFLECTS ON DETERMINATION AND SPIRITUALITY

Ocean Beach is not an easy place to surf. The water is cold, the current is strong and the waves are unpredictable, making the four-mile stretch of San Francisco coastline one of the toughest beach breaks for even the strongest surfers. Before surfing became a way of life for Janet MacPherson ’55, she ran into the waves at Ocean Beach as an 18-year-old senior at Convent. It was the 1950s, and Janet was the only woman out there. “It was freezing cold — I don’t know how I ever got the nerve to do it,” she says, recalling her early days at Ocean Beach, “but I did it.” After graduating from high school, Janet spent three months in Hawaii, a time which cemented her love of surfing. “The Hawaiian boys taught us how to surf,” she remembers. Back on the mainland, Janet moved to Santa Cruz. “It is quite the place to surf even though it’s a very difficult surf break,” she says. “I still continued on with surfing, and I never stopped. I’ve been doing it all my life.” Janet has chased waves all over the world, traveling to New Zealand — where she became the women’s surf champion in her 20s — Central America, the Galapagos, South Africa, Indonesia and beyond. Now 81 years old, Janet’s life on the water is undiminished; she lives near the beach in Malibu and still surfs often. “I was very lucky to have found a sport that I enjoy so much that I’m still doing at my age,” Janet says, adding, “I loved surfing from a time when women did not participate in the sport, but I stuck with it and kept

at it. I did it for six decades and consider myself a pioneer.” Janet credits her mother for giving her the courage to break into a male-dominated sport. “I’m very fortunate because I had a very strong mother,” she says, “so I was always taught to be strong. The more that you give to your life, the more you’ll always achieve.” Janet also leans on her faith, cultivated in her Convent days. “I believe in praying to God. So what if you can’t surf one day because it got too big, then you just pray to God that you get another day. That’s one of my little secrets,” she admits. Janet and her sister, Marielsa MacPherson ’52, attended Convent in the years after World War II, a time when the forwardthinking Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus comprised a majority of the faculty and administration of the school. “My sister and I always reflect on the wonderful education we received from the sisters,” Janet says fondly. “We felt the school was so nurturing and such a beautiful setting.” That memory has endured for Janet, who, in between surf sessions, often reflects on the people who made her Convent experience so impactful. “My experience at Convent enriched my Catholic faith and gave me my best friend Janice O’Donnell Roffoni ‘55’51,” she says. “There is not a week that goes by that I do not remember something about Convent or someone such as Mother Mardel.”

DARREN CRISS’ ‘MOST EXTRAORDINARY MOMENT’ Congratulations are in order for Darren Criss SHB’01, who took home his first Emmy Award on September 17 for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie for his role as Andrew Cunanan in FX’s The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story. “Oh, my God, you guys are witnessing the most extraordinary moment of my life thus far,” Darren said in his acceptance speech. He also recognized his parents, adding, “Unlike the character I played, I was lucky enough to be raised in a home that was very loving and emphasized the value of hard work, compassion and not taking yourself too seriously.” Darren’s portrayal of Andrew Cunanan, the real-life serial killer who murdered fashion designer Versace, is an outright departure from his upbeat musical theater background. He previously starred in the Fox TV show Glee and was nominated for an Outstanding

Original Music and Lyrics Emmy for writing the song “This Time.” Darren also starred on Broadway in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Hedwig and the Angry Inch, which had a run in San Francisco in fall 2016. In between shows, Darren stopped by Convent & Stuart Hall to visit many of his former teachers and friends. While in elementary school at Stuart Hall, Darren made his professional stage debut, acting in a number of shows with the American Conservatory Theater. From an early age, he sought opportunities to combine his love of acting and music, a passion shared by his older brother, Chuck Criss SHB’99. Most recently, Darren and Chuck teamed up to form Computer Games, an alt-pop band that released its first EP, Lost Boys Life, in spring 2017.

A GOOD YEAR FOR MEDICINE In the spring of 2018, three alumni from the Convent & Stuart Hall Class of 2008 graduated from medical school. Neema Patel, Morgan Kendall and Nicholas Dietz reflect on the experiences — pursuing a pediatrics residency to help underserved communities, teaching ultrasound skills in Tanzania and discovering an interest in neurosurgery — that propelled them toward careers in medicine. NEEMA PATEL ‘08’04 The analogy that medical school is like drinking water from a hydrant is undeniably accurate. The rate is accelerated, the amount of knowledge unprecedented, and third year clinical rotations re-invent the notion of active learning in a setting of constantly changing clinical settings, teams and expectations. Simply put, it was hard.

Amidst all this, medical school proved extremely rewarding as I saw my potential role in helping individuals, and more specifically children, overcome the helplessness and vulnerability they may feel as their bodies falter and become a mystery to them. These are feelings with which I have empathized since my diagnosis of Crohn’s disease in high school. Ultimately, my illness and my upbringing in the Tenderloin fueled my decision to pursue a residency in pediatrics and to help families in underserved communities gain access and better navigate the daunting landscape of healthcare. NICHOLAS DIETZ ’08 Medical school was an incredibly rewarding period of growth and development where I met some of my closest friends and learned the tools to lead a life of service. My favorite moments came during the third year when we entered the hospital and began supervised patient care through clinical rotations. I loved the variety of working in diverse fields, diagnosing psychiatric conditions, assisting in surgery and delivering babies all in one semester. The neurosciences have been a passion of mine since undergraduate studies and research. This academic focus was met with an inclination towards surgery during third-year rotations when I found a particular interest in neurosurgery. Before starting residency, I am pursuing a translational research fellowship in acute spinal trauma, working with surgeons and doctors on surgical stimulation for spinal cord injuries. It is an exciting prospect with promising results for new innovation that will build an academic career in neurosurgery.

MORGAN KENDALL ‘08 I went to medical school at the University of California, Irvine. I had great experiences there, from going to Tanzania to teach ultrasound skills to working in a weekly free medical clinic to support the local uninsured population. I am now an intern in pediatrics at Children’s National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. This is my first time living outside of California, and I’m enjoying exploring a new city and getting used to humidity! A LEGACY OF DIGITAL LITERACY AND DESIGN DOUG GRANT, A LUMINARY TEACHER INSPIRING GENERATIONS By Kathleen Esling

This year, Patricia Munter ‘86 and her husband Jeffrey Loomans have donated a lead gift toward establishing an endowed Chair of Computer Science in Doug Grant’s honor. In order to fully endow the Chair, the gift must be matched so the fund total can reach $500,000. Doug Grant has had an enormous impact on the lives of his students throughout his 50-year career at Convent & Stuart Hall. Doug’s teaching and coursework encourages students to learn, to understand and to build analytical frameworks, a practice that allows students to become enthusiastic learners, knowledgeable coders and articulate communicators.

Over the course of your career, have you seen a change in how students engage with computer science and technology? 8

The biggest change, of course, is that now many students come in with some background in technology, which could be minimal to extensive. Students also come in with an understanding that there is great value in being introduced to coding and knowing how coding works. Many alumni have told me that even though they didn’t take another programming class after high school, they work a lot with programmers and their background in coding has helped them communicate in a more meaningful way. They tell me that their colleagues are surprised they have such an understanding of what the programmer is doing. You could say that the coding languages students learn enhance their communication; it is related to the language that programmers speak. Alumni will interact with programmers, and to have an understanding of that language, that thought process, and those challenges particular to coding will make them more skilled in everything they do.

FIRST INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE DIPLOMA PROGRAMME CLASS PAVES THE WAY The Class of 2018 was the first to include IB Diploma Programme candidates in its graduating class. Adapting to the rigor of college coursework often takes time, at least a few weeks. But when Claire Kosewic ‘18 walked into her first college class at Loyola Marymount University this fall, she did not have the typical first-day jitters.

“College teaching is so similar to the IB that I felt right at home,” she says. “Professors ask us to critically engage with the material, analyzing it and evaluating its values and limitations, which is just what the IB asks.” Claire is among the first group of students at Convent & Stuart Hall to earn an IB diploma. The first graduating class had all 24 students successfully complete the program, with 14 receiving the prestigious full diploma last spring. Since the school introduced the IBDP as a curricular offering in the 2016–17 school year, enrollment in the programme has more than doubled, with 60 seniors planning to sit for exams in May 2019 and 64 juniors embarking on classes this fall. A two-year elective course of study for juniors and seniors, the IBDP’s rigorous and comprehensive course of study is compatible with Convent & Stuart Hall’s vision of creating purposeful, globally-engaged citizens. Despite the intense workload, Claire is glad she did it. “The IB is an extremely challenging program, especially for the first few months as you reprogram your brain to

think in an expanded worldview,” she says. “But college expects similar thinking, so coming into college with the background of the IB gave me an invaluable head start.” Claire, who has already declared her major in Science on a pre-health track, is adding a minor in Women’s and Gender Studies. The decision, she says, was made after just a few weeks in a class called Feminist Science Studies. “The IB didn’t shape my interest in one particular field or another,” Claire admits. “Rather, it made me interested in how academic disciplines overlap, connect and inform each other.” In addition to preparing graduates for college success and to be active and informed members of a global society, several IB diploma recipients earned college credit, including Claire. Her 22 credits from the IBDP, along with classes she’s taking this fall, give her “sophomore” status at LMU. “This allows me to register for classes earlier, as well as contributing to my elective credits, which gives me more flexibility in my degree track down the road,” she adds. “As a school leader with 10 years of experience in IB schools, I’m proud and impressed by the number of Convent & Stuart Hall students who received the full diploma in this first graduating class,” says President Ann Marie Krejcarek. “It bodes well for future classes and for the school’s international reputation.”

The IBDP has permanently shaped my thinking process. Instead of simply accepting ‘facts’ as facts, I ask questions: Who created this fact? What social context did it develop in? What other perspectives on this fact do I need to consider? The IB forced me to become a thinker, not a memorizer.

The IBDP’s impact on me so far has been mostly in allowing me to see the world as a more connected place and to always look a little deeper than I think is necessary. One of the more specific effects has been in my ability to formulate, research and thoughtfully respond to research questions in a range of disciplines.

CELEBRATING MARY ASHE ‘48 By Kathleen Esling

As a member of the global network of Sacred Heart schools, Convent & Stuart Hall is part of a rich educational tradition spanning centuries and continents. Founded in 1887, Schools of the Sacred Heart San Francisco has collected historical documents and artifacts that preserve our community’s past. These archives are now maintained by High School Librarians Reba Sell and Alyson Barrett, as well as a group of student interns. The archives team is guided by the following mission statement:

It is the mission of the Archives of the Schools of the Sacred Heart San Francisco to collect, preserve, protect and make accessible original materials containing historical value relating to the Schools of the Sacred Heart. By sustaining evidence that reflects the life and activities of those who created such material, the Archives is ensuring that it is available for future generations to discover. It is the goal of the Archives of the Schools of the Sacred Heart San Francisco to maintain records that are open to the Sacred Heart community for research, publicity and instructional needs. The Archives of the Schools of the Sacred Heart San Francisco plan to work in conjunction with the Archives of the Society of the Sacred Heart, located in St. Louis, Missouri, to further develop and advance the local collection. As we pause to consider the immense history being preserved “for future generations to discover,” we acknowledge the amazing work of archivist Mary Ashe ’48; her weekly attention to these materials provided the basis on which the current team of librarians and students operates today. Mary spent more than 30 years working as a librarian at the Main Branch of the San Francisco Public Library. She was appointed to the Art, Music and Recreation Department and found great joy and enrichment in attending

local, national and international gatherings of librarians specializing in arts and music. So it comes as no surprise that, as Alyson notes, “Mary ensured that the archives were stewarded with extraordinary professionalism and thoughtfulness. She completed the hardest task associated with archival work: the initial organization to itemize and describe archival contents. We continue to catalog and organize the archives based on Mary’s foundational expertise and work.” While serving as Director of Schools in the 1960s, Mary Mardel, RSCJ, expressed her belief in preserving school materials, and in the 1990s, she proposed to then-Director of Schools Dr. Mary Magnano Smith that Convent & Stuart Hall organize the artifacts and keep them in one dedicated place. Sr. Mardel recalls, “I think I have ‘an archival heart,’ and I was eager to do this. Mary Smith was very supportive and had a little ceremony in the library to ‘initiate’ the project.” From there, Sr. Mardel and Ellen Hoffman, RSCJ, then the librarian for the elementary divisions, worked together to begin the process of putting the archives in order. Soon after this, Mary Ashe and Virginia Murillo ’48’44, trained with Sr. Mardel to perform the archival work themselves. Virginia says, “Sr. Mardel had established the archives along with Sr. Ellen Hoffman to assure that

the history of the school in San Francisco would be preserved as time was passing and the nuns who knew the history were retiring and going down to Oakwood.” Sr. Mardel remembers, “It was exciting to train and work with two persons as interested and intelligent as Mary Ashe and Virginia Murillo, and they faithfully continued the work every week, long after I moved to Oakwood in 2004.” Virginia and Mary were excited to engage in the process of archiving and preserving school artifacts, as well as having “a nice reunion with my classmate,” Mary adds. The two classmates had not seen each other in some time, and the opportunity to work together with their former high school teacher, Sr. Mardel, was a welcome opportunity. In 2004, Mary took charge of the project and recorded an immense amount of information as she cataloged the items the school had saved over the years. Virginia recalls her time working as Mary’s assistant, “We worked every Tuesday morning, with Mary stopping to pick up the week’s materials at the mailroom at 2222 Broadway and then coming on up to the archives in the attic of the Grant House. She assessed the material, categorized the items and entered the information on the computer. My job was to place the item in the box, album, shelf, etc. where it belonged.” “Being connected with the archives conditioned us to keep our eye out for items that were useful,” states Mary.

For example, they began a folder for Darren Criss SHB‘01 after he was cast on the television show Glee. Virginia says, “It was most interesting work because I constantly discovered information about the history of the schools that was fascinating.” Mary notes, “Working with the materials was in teresting, but even more interesting were the questions that came. A number of people were doing family histories, and they knew their mother or grandmother attended the school . .. It was interesting to look at the old handwritten ledgers. Sometimes we found the names and sometimes we didn’t.” Mary and Virginia tirelessly endeavored to preserve the school’s history, maintaining those weekly sessions until 2015. At that time, a renovation of the Grant House and its attic prevented the work on the archives from continuing in that space. Over this last summer, the back room of Mother Williams Library was renovated, including the installation of the necessary HVAC systems to properly store archival material, to become the new home of Convent & Stuart Hall’s archives. The high school library team has taken up Mary and Virginia’s weekly work, grateful for the excellent foundation provided by these alumnae. Following content standards as dictated by the Society of American Archivists, the librarian and student archivist team now shares in the rich tradition of saving, organizing and sharing the history of Schools of the Sacred Heart San Francisco.

PAST AND PRESENT CONNECTING TO OUR SACRED HEART HERITAGE IN ROME

On the morning of Palm Sunday, James Holt ‘10 and Barbara Dawson ‘66, RSCJ, stood together in Saint Peter’s Square to take part in one of the great Easter traditions in Rome. As Pope Francis appeared for a blessing of the palms and a procession, they could almost reach out and touch him.

Church, the site of the city’s first Sacred Heart school. Few visitors reach the chapel of Mater Admirabilis on the second floor of the monastery next door. It contains the original fresco of Our Lady, a copy of which, two centuries later, can be found in every Sacred Heart school around the world.

Just a few months before in November 2016, Sr. Dawson moved to Rome to begin her tenure as Superior General of the International Society of the Sacred Heart. James had always wanted to attend a papal Mass, and with Sr. Dawson’s recent election to the Society’s top post, he reached out to arrange a meeting.

“I have developed a particular affinity for Mater Admirabilis, so seeing the original was amazing,” James says. “It was also quite humbling to visit where St. Madeleine Sophie Barat lived and prayed.”

“My experience at Stuart Hall was wonderful, and a big part of that experience was the emphasis on belonging to the global Sacred Heart community,” James says. “That sense of community has inspired me to try to stay in touch with the global network.” His connection to Sr. Dawson began in 2005 when they met at St. Martin de Porres in Oakland, where Sr. Dawson was president at the time. “We struck up a friendship and have stayed in touch ever since,” James explains. James, who worked for Walt Disney’s corporate strategy and business development department after college, is currently pursuing an MBA at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. “The Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart education have left an indelible mark on my outlook towards life generally and on my spiritual life in particular,” he says. Goal Four, James adds, “has inspired my active participation in the Catholic community at Stanford.” During his visit to Rome from London, where he was working at the time, James toured the Trinità dei Monti

In the weeks before her move to Rome, Sr. Dawson, who cares deeply about her alma mater, was welcomed back to Convent & Stuart Hall for a big send-off and to share about her new role. She attended a Mass and met with several juniors and seniors, fielding questions and telling them about her career as an immigration lawyer and educator. “What was impressive is the way they are connecting, parsing and thinking about what the Goals and Criteria mean,” she said. She also spoke about the constructive role she hopes students will play. “The Society of the Sacred Heart belongs to all of us,” she said, adding, “we just need to make sure everyone has a place at the table — and Convent & Stuart Hall students are a part of that.” To get a taste of the global Sacred Heart Network as James did, all Convent & Stuart Hall alumni are invited to visit Sr. Dawson in Rome in May 2019. Participants will join President Ann Marie Krejcarek to experience our Sacred Heart heritage with a visit to the original Mater as well as culinary excursions and rich cultural experiences while creating unforgettable memories with fellow alumni.

TRIP DETAILS DATES: Tentatively May 2–6, 2019 GROUP SIZE: Group size will depend on interest, with a goal of between 10 –15 alumni and their guests. PRICE: Exact cost is still being determined. Participants will be responsible for arranging their own travel to and from Rome. Convent & Stuart Hall will arrange all lodging, meals and group excursions May 2–6. ALUMNA LEADS DELL’S ASIA-PACIFIC DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION STRATEGY 20

Last spring, President Ann Marie Krejcarek and Head of Convent High School Rachel Simpson traveled to Singapore to attend the IB Global Conference. During their stay, they took the opportunity to meet and reconnect with Sophie Guerin ‘01‘97, who lives and works in the global innovation hub, serving as the Head of Diversity and Inclusion at Dell. She is responsible for leading the company’s diversity and inclusion strategy across Asia. The Bulletin reached out to Sophie and asked her to reflect on the future of sustainable business, her time at Convent and living abroad. What do you remember most about your time at Convent? My strongest memories were the experiences that helped me build a sense of confidence at a time when I was perhaps my most vulnerable. I enrolled at Convent in seventh grade at a difficult time in my life. I had lost several close family members in rapid succession, and I was struggling at the large middle school that I had recently moved into. Convent provided a safe, nurturing environment that allowed me to find my voice and discover new areas of interest, ultimately building a strong foundation of confidence. Most importantly, the teachers were invested in my success both inside and outside of the classroom, going out of their way to ensure that my family and I were successful and welcome at the school.

To this day, I am still closely connected with my former teachers and classmates, who remain a key part of my professional and personal journey.

What attracted you to Asian culture, and why did you decide to work abroad? My mom is a midwife and spent much of her career working with underserved populations in the U.S. and internationally. As a child, we spent a great deal of time on the road in Asia and Central and South America where she worked in various communities. After enrolling at New York University, I returned to Asia and ultimately settled in China after completing my studies. Working and living abroad has not always been easy. However, the opportunity to learn about other cultures, different people, and new ways of seeing and thinking

about the world has continuously inspired me. My husband and I have lived in New York, China, France, Hong Kong, and today, Singapore, where we continue to learn an enormous amount about the world and have great adventures while doing so!

Briefly explain what diversity and inclusion means to businesses. Inclusion and diversity is the future of sustainable business. To drive innovation and future success, companies must be diverse. The customer is changing, and leadership is transforming. For companies to be successful in the future, they must reflect the customer and drive an inclusive culture that enables diversity.

How do you describe your role at Dell? Ultimately my role is to drive strategic change in Asia. My role has both internal and external facing elements. I consult with our internal leadership, including executives as well as human resources, to advise on best practices, review performance, drive programs and provide market insights. I work externally with our customers to consult on best practices and drive partnership programs. I also speak extensively at industry events, serve on local business councils, and participate in print, digital and TV interviews.

What inspired you to connect with President Ann Marie Krejcarek and Head of Convent High School Rachel Simpson on their recent trip to Singapore? I’m a strong believer in investing and giving back to communities. My time at Convent was a powerful one, and while I am no longer a student, I am invested in the continued success of the school and am keen to

support however I can regardless of proximity. Having the opportunity to reconnect with Rachel and Ann Marie was a unique opportunity to connect with the Convent community once again in person.

By 2040, many of the children born this year will be entering the workforce. How do you imagine workplaces will look in 2040, and how can schools best equip their students? Recently Dell conducted a study of 3,800 business leaders on the future of the workforce, called Realizing 2030. The study found that the number two factor for companies to be successful in the future was workforce readiness. Additional research from Ernst & Young, McKinsey, The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development and other organizations points to the fact that agility, adaptability, flexibility, emotional competence and creativity will be the necessary skills of the future. The reality is that the jobs of the future have not yet been created. Instead we need to promote a learning mindset from an early age to enable students to be successful well into the future of a changing landscape.

What do you think you’ve carried with you from your Convent days while traveling and working around the world? A service mindset, compassion, resiliency and a passion for learning. Being a teenager is never easy, but Convent provided a space for me to build confidence, explore my interests and learn how to give back. These fundamental lessons gave me the courage to take risks and discover my career interests while striving to enable the success of others.

She and her husband have moved from the Peninsula to Las Vegas where she regularly sees Elda Iacono Fanucchi ’62, who also moved from California to Las Vegas, and Heather Paige ’62’58, who has retired from her healthcare position in which she trained caregivers to care for patients with mobility issues. Elda’s volunteer projects include the Vegas Shepherd Rescue, secretary for the Ferrari Club, and the Las Vegas Food Bank. Cynthia Tippett ’62’58 still lives in Montecito. She and her horse Harry regularly ride the 150 miles of trails in Montecito. She was evacuated many times during the period of terrible fires and mudslides that devastated the area. She works with the Montecito Trails Foundation and the Santa Barbara Land Trust – she is in charge of renewing the trails that were destroyed. Jackie Scatena Snaider ’62’58 is enjoying her little granddaughter. I am loving retirement and the flexibility that comes with it. My husband and I are also building our dream home outside New Braunfels, Texas, and hope to be moved in by late February 2019. I will also continue my love of fostering puppies with CARE here in San Antonio who rescue dogs and puppies from our local ACC.”

Pauline Sanchez Steinhoffer ’87 lives in San Jose with her husband, Hans, and their twins, Dante and Vienna (age 9). She is an alumni relations officer at Stanford University. She was so excited to see so many Convent High School classmates at her 30th Reunion in 2017 — many of whom went to kindergarten together. She is so very grateful for her Sacred Heart education, the lifelong friendships, and the opportunity to come back “home” to Broadway. Linda Imlay ’87’83 took a leap of faith and decided to go back to school and pursue a career in apparel arts last fall. She has never been happier or more challenged.

Heather Hackman ’90’86 recently joined Aimmune Therapeutics in Brisbane, CA as a Senior Manager, Product & Portfolio Management. Aimmune is developing desensitization treatments to help protect people with food allergies from the potentially lifethreatening consequences of accidental exposure. Their first product is an oral treatment for peanut allergy.

IB Visual Art provides a comprehensive approach to artmaking in diverse practices, critical analysis of artwork made throughout time and from a broad range of cultures, and an opportunity for students to curate and share their work within and beyond the community. The ability to work with students for two years lends to deep relationships that support risk-taking, something essential and inherent in the artmaking process. Seeing students transform as they gained confidence in their creative voice through studio practice and exposure to the work of other artists was a true pleasure.
