5 Personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom
FROM THE DIRECTOR OF SCHOOLS
Dear Sacred Heart Community,
With great pride and immense gratitude, I share with you the 2024-2025 Annual Report, for Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton.
Having closed out another remarkable year on our beautiful Atherton campus, I’m struck by how much we have to be grateful for. Our chosen school-wide theme—drawn from the words of our founder, St. Madeleine Sophie Barat— reminded us to “Be humble, be simple, and bring joy to others.” And what a joyful year it was! Applications to join our school continued to trend upward, as did our college recruiting and acceptance numbers for our graduating Class of 2025. We marked excellent progress in our endowment, and saw specially funded projects, such as the new Wilson Golf Training Center and SHP baseball field renovation, breathe new life and bring new opportunity for students on our historic campus.
Most notably, thanks to the incredible spirit and generosity of this community, both our Annual Fund and our Auction also reached record highs—not just in funds raised, but in the number of people who gave of their time, energy, and talent. Whether volunteering quietly behind the scenes, stepping into a leadership role, helping organize a community, class, or grade-level event, or simply sharing your Sacred Heart spirit, your support carried us through a year of joyful growth, and I couldn’t be more appreciative.
As Director of Schools for this special Sacred Heart family, I am keenly aware that every gift—financial or otherwise— comes from a place of trust. This is a responsibility that all of us charged with leadership of this campus take very seriously. Our approach to financial stewardship remains grounded in strong fiscal conservatism, while never losing sight of our promise to provide an outstanding education for each and every child. That means keeping tuition affordability top of mind, making thoughtful decisions that support long-term sustainability, and continuing to invest in what matters most: our people. Every decision we make therefore is with intention, care, and a deep respect for the community that makes it all possible.
Of course, all of this comes back to our shared mission: to cultivate in our students a personal and active faith in God, and to lay the foundation for a meaningful life. That mission continues to guide us, every day and in every choice we make. Whether we’re expanding programs, building budgets, or welcoming new families to campus, we remain unwavering in our commitment to place the child at the center. We know that when our students feel known, supported, and inspired, they grow into the people they are called to be—leaders of compassion, faith, and purpose.
So from all of us—faculty, staff, students, and the Board of Trustees—thank you. Thank you for living out the spirit of St. Madeleine Sophie in ways both seen and unseen, for your steadfast commitment to the present and future of our school, and for your joyful generosity that helps keep our mission alive and well. May we continue to walk this path together, grounded in faith, driven by purpose, and always with our eyes on what matters most: our children.

ENDOWMENT FROM FY10 THROUGH FY25
A thriving endowment is essential to the future of Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton (SHS). These funds ensure excellence across our school by supporting these key areas:
• Academic Excellence: Guaranteeing a world-class educational experience through outstanding faculty, abundant resources, and state-of-the-art facilities.
• Faculty & Staff Support: Attracting and retaining an exceptional cadre of educators, ensuring competitive compensation and dedicated professional development.
• Whole-Child Education: Fulfilling our mission through strong programs in character development, spiritual growth, and robust service learning opportunities.
• Program Innovation: Advancing co-curricular and extracurricular excellence in the arts, athletics, robotics/AI, and other dynamic programs.
Each year the Investment Committee of the Board of Trustees carefully reviews the spending policy and recommends an annual spending rate that is appropriate to meet these needs. This spending rate is applied to all gifts where the donor has not otherwise made a specific spending request. The remaining unspent monies are reinvested for continued growth as a hedge against inflation. The spending rate for 2024-2025 was four and one-half percent, based on a 12-quarter trailing average of the endowment’s market value.

Grandparents play a profound role in the life of a child, helping to shape their future. The support and contributions of grandparents to their families and communities create a legacy that not only impacts immediate needs but also lays the foundation for a stronger and more meaningful life.
Through their giving, grandparents impart values of compassion, empathy, and the importance of giving back, setting an example that inspires both present and future family members.
As we express our gratitude for their invaluable contributions, we acknowledge the enduring importance of legacy – the indelible mark they leave on the world, reminding us to carry their spirit of generosity forward.
We look forward to seeing you for Grandparents' and Special Friends' Day in January 2026!

WAYS TO GIVE
At Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton we welcome and deeply appreciate gifts of all sizes. The collective generosity of our community members and friends has a profound impact, helping us provide the best education for every student and fulfill our shared mission.
The Annual Fund is the primary and most critical fundraising priority at Sacred Heart Schools. Gifts to the Annual Fund support our yearly operating budget and fills the gap between tuition and the true cost of providing a Sacred Heart education. Whether you are a first-time donor or a longtime supporter, your gift is the force that moves us forward and we are grateful for your partnership.
We are pleased to offer a wide variety of ways to help make supporting Sacred Heart Schools, Atherton a rewarding experience. All gifts are tax-deductible in accordance with current tax laws. If you would like assistance in planning your contribution, please contact the SHS Advancement Office at 650.473.4003 or advancement@shschools.org
Online Gifts
Online gifts are the simplest method of giving. Visit our website (www.shschools.org/give) to easily Give Now using your Visa, Mastercard, or make a Pledge.
Pledge Now
You can submit your pledge online with an option to designate your gift to the Annual Fund, a specific area of interest, a tribute gift to honor a loved one, and more.
Donor-Advised Funds
We accept grants from donor-advised funds. Please ensure the fund administrator includes your preferred designation on the memo line of the check, or in an accompanying letter, when directing your gift to SHS. Contact Lauren Whittam (lwhittam@shschools.org) to learn more.
Gifts of Securities (Stock)
Donors should ask their broker to contact the Sacred Heart Schools Advancement Office (gifts@shschools.org) for stock gift information.
Matching Gifts
Many corporations will match gifts to charitable institutions like Sacred Heart Schools, thereby doubling or tripling a gift to the school. In the annual report, donors are recognized in the giving society commensurate with the total gift amount. Check with your employer to determine if a matching gift program is available to you.
