Lucy Calkins: Units of Study

● Phonics: uses engaging storylines, classroom mascots, songs, chants, rhymes, and games to help students develop high-leverage phonics concepts and strategies

Each grade has a class mascot! Kindergarten’s is Mabel the elephant!

● Reading & Writing: provides teaching points, mini-lessons, conferences, and small group work needed for a comprehensive workshop curriculum. Teachers are able to assess students’ work, develop self-monitoring strategies, and set students on trajectories of growth.

Everyday Math

● Interactive lessons to kindergarten math concepts

○ Counting by 1s, 5s, and 10s to 100

○ Sorting

○ Graphing, money, time by hour

○ Simple addition & subtraction

○ 2-D and 3-D shapes

○ Length and weight

○ Story and number problems

○ Morning routines

● Introduces kindergarteners to games and activities that enrich math concepts

“Bringing Science Alive”

● Observe ways that plants and animals–including humans–impact their environments.

● Investigate how forces affect the way objects move

● Investigate how weather changes over time in recognizable patterns

TCI Science

TCI Social Studies “Me And My World”

● Explores the relationships in students’ lives with their families, friends, teachers, and neighbors

● Students learn that people live differently in different places and that they can help care for the world

God Loves Us

● Morning Prayer

● Church – Thursday afternoons

● God Loves Us - taught by Señora Foerster

Room Parents

You may send a birthday treat and come in and read a book with your child. I will send an email to you approximately a week before your child’s birthday.

Our head room parent will be reaching out to parents to start coordinating (classroom parties, field trip chaperones, etc.)
