TheHighSchoolconcertbandisopentoallstudentswhoplayawindorpercussion instrument.Thoughmostofthestudentshavebeenplayingforseveralyears, opportunitiesexistformotivatedbeginnerstoplay.Awidevarietyofmusicisstudied, includingstandardconcertbandliterature,orchestraltranscriptions,chorales, marches,Broadwayshowmusic,andpopularmusic.Thoughthemajorityofclass timeisspentonperformancepractices,asignificantamountoftimeisspenton musictheoryandhistory.Thebandalsoregularlysight-reads.Thebandperformsat schoolconcertsandspecialevents.Thebandalsocompetesatmusicfestivals. Thisclasstakesstudentsthroughtheprocessofformingandrunningagarage band.Theintentionistolearn,create,perform,andrecordmusic.Assignments include;learningatwelvebarbluessonginanystyle,learningacoversonginany popularAmericanmusicstyle,andwritinganoriginalsonginanypopularAmerican musicstyle Thebandslearntorunaneffectiverehearsal,toperform,andwillrecord andedittheirmusic

Thejazzbandisa7-to-15-pieceensembleopentointermediateandadvanced musicstudents.Guitarists,drummers,andstringplayersarewelcome.Thecourseof studyincludesimprovisation,basicjazztheory,jazzarticulation,performance practices,andsomejazzhistory.Thegroupperformsmusiccoveringmosterasof jazzmusic.Thebandperformsatschoolconcertsandspecialevents.Thisgroupalso participatesinmanyjazzfestivalsandoftentravels.Numerousopportunitiesare availableforindividualinstruction,andindividualprivatelessonsareencouraged.
