MODULE 1 HOW TO DRAW A CROISSANT?

MODULE 1: HOW TO DRAW A CROISSANT?

This is the first module of this semester, and it involves drawing croissant skill and digital skill of using Photoshop.

07

MODULE 2 : FLATNESS VS. PROJECTION

In this module, I leanrt how to measure a croissant and construct orthographic projection drawing by using new equipment such as Tsqure.

11

MODULE 3 : PATTERN VS. SURFACE

17

MODULE 4 : FRAME VS. FIELD

Many photograpgy principles are also addressed, a photo stage is required to make it more accurate. When taking a elevation shoot, it should take straight away, also I need to ensure there is no shades. Also, I explore the way of hatching to create depth and emphazise. Instead of using too much shades but change the frequency of lines. For the equipments, I find out different shade of pencil and thcickness of pen can help me to advance productivity.

Scaled drawings of the croissant includes top view, elevation and elevation from right side by using hatching and shading to show the texture.

MODULE 2 FLATNESS VS. PROJECTION Axonometric drawing was further developed in the second module. Module 2 needs to create a three dimensional Mario World accroding the Two dimensional Mario world that tutor was given. Firstly, totated the Mario world at 45 degrees. it is creative that I have to decide how far each object extends in depth. The theme of Mario World is depended on myself. Two 2-D Mario Wolrd have to merge together. I added more decorations and change the gradient of colour to make it more unique. Also it is necessary to overlay several tracing paper to avoid messy work. I constructed a new lower level but the depth of two level are different. Axonometric Construction Three dimensional drawing of the croissant which the croissant was turned 45 degrees.

Colouring and correcting line work were done in Adobe Illustrator that is a vector base software.

Final Mario World

This is my final work by using Illustrator. For accuracy, I use colour picker and gradient tool.

MODULE 3 PATTERN VS. SURFACE Module 3 is the most challenging one. Rhibo software was introduced for this Module. Manipulating topography as surface using Rhino 3d panelling tool to create effects and produce a physical model. I explored Custom 3D Panelling to my ownterrain. At last I designed five patterns and create it randomly. For physical model The equipments for this module is also important, in order to avoid messy I used UHU glue or PVA glue to stick them togetehr and make patterns more stable. Futhermore, I cut the folding lines slightly, making the pattern easy to fold and reduce time.

Axonometric hand drawing

This is my final hand drawing with some creative features adn levels. For correcting, I need to scan it and trace in Illustrator.

My final work which is built up with 5 different variations. Two triangle, 3 trapezoid. I use ”Ptpanel3Dcustomevariables” to create this.

MODULE 4 FRAME VS. FIELD I think the last module is the most interesting one. I can create my style of building and find characters for the story I was given. Eusapia is my city where there are two identical city, so that I created two levels of city in Rhino, where the living live on the upper level and the dead live on the lower level. I try to imagin the view as Marco Polo. Notations are the vital part of this module. Notations indicate the journey of Marco Polo, his mood changing and his views and perspectives. When inserting notations, it is more clear that avoid overladding with cur- rent work. Using different notations to indicate slow and fast movement and moods where Polo interacted most. This module is depended on how I design and what concept I want to create and understand the original story. Close look of model to create a compelling scene

CITIES & THE DEAD : EUSAPIA

Isometric of setting

The notations od isometric show Marco Polo’s journey through City of Eusapia. Notations include moods, place of people, and two perspective views which I selected. Marco Polo walks around in lower level then go upstair. My city has two levels where the upper level is for the living and the lower level.

M4

I selected the first view where Marco Polo stands at the entrance of upper level. He looks throughout the Quad. Also Light comes from the outside. For characters, I choose three dierent types At the end of story, it says that Eusapia is hard to distinguish the living city and lower city, so I use dark and bright fogs to indicate a sense of mixing together.

The second perspective where at a underground palace. In thsi view, audiences can see the stair which the deads and hooded brothers can walk down. The dominators of Eusapia are hooded brother so I put them in the middle to show their power. Other characters are the deads who maintain their lives. Compare with upper city, underground has fewer light, I choose a darder tone to represent, .and it is more narrow and closer to the city.

REFLECTION Throughout FODR of this semester, I learn a lot and gain both drawing and digital skills to represent different types of designs. I have built up sense of the role of representation in design and broaden my understanding principle of design. This semester makes me a good foundation for my study. Moreover, I also faced many difficulties which I never meet before. At the begining, I struggled to catch up in workshop, cannot understand the concept of requirement and feel shy about

presentation. However, I try to use past knowledge to improve and advance new module. I have explored new softwares for me such as Photoshop, Illustrators, InDesign and Rhino to help me create different stages of modules, helping me with my major of Digital Technology. In order to get a better result in the future, I need to focus more and have a better time management to produce a best work. For the portfolio, I changes a little bit of Module 2, which I change colour tone and gradient to avoid messy of work. I improve the tone of Module 4 images, when I presented I found my work is darker than I expected. Overall, FoDR gives me oppunities to create and design and will benefit me in thr furture.
