MOHAMED SUHAIL

I am fourth year Architecture Student at Nehru College of Architecture, Kerala with a particular interest in the sustainable design field. For me, the most fascinating aspect of design is seeing how it is applied in various fields all over the world. I have acquired good presentation skills, and organisational skills through my three and half years in the field of Architecture.

Use of local materials: The design should incorporate materials that are readily available in the area, such as natural stone, wood, and clay. This not only reduces the environmental impact of transportation, but also supports the local economy.
Integration with the natural environment: The design should be in harmony with the surrounding landscape, and make use of natural light and ventilation to reduce the need for artificial lighting and cooling.
Use of traditional architectural elements: The design should incorporate traditional elements of the local vernacular architecture, such as pitched roofs, verandahs, and courtyards.
Sustainable features: The design should include sustainable features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and green roofs.
Flexibility and adaptability: The design should be flexible and adaptable, allowing for changes and additions over time, to minimize the need for frequent renovations.

The college will utilize renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind power, to meet its energy needs.
The college will feature green roofs and walls, as well as rainwater harvesting systems, to reduce water usage and improve air quality.
The college will be designed to maximize natural light and ventilation, reducing the need for artificial lighting and heating/cooling systems.

The college will be constructed using sustainable materials, such as reclaimed wood and recycled steel, and will be designed to be easily disassembled and repurposed at the end of its life cycle.

The college will feature outdoor learning spaces, such as community gardens and green roofs, to provide students with hands-on learning opportunities in sustainable design and landscaping.
The college will have a focus on incorporating sustainable design principles into all aspects of the curriculum, including energy efficiency, water conservation, and waste reduction.
ELEVATION

The color palette should be neutral and calming, with pops of green to represent the connection to nature. The use of natural materials such as wood, stone, and bamboo can be incorporated to provide warmth and texture.
The floor plan should be open and flexible to allow for natural light to flow throughout the space. Large windows and skylights can be incorporated to provide ample natural light while also reducing the need for artificial lighting.

The use of energy-efficient appliances and lighting can also help to reduce the apartment’s environmental footprint. This can include appliances such as Energy Star rated refrigerators and washing machines, as well as LED lighting.
Overall, the aesthetic design of a sustainable apartment should aim to create a comfortable and inviting living space that is also mindful of the environment.
