ABOUT SERBIA

Serbia is a young, creative and up-and-coming destination that forms a cultural and historic bridge between Western and Eastern Europe. Over the millennia, many civilizations have left their mark on Serbia, creating its uniqueness. Here, visitors can still find authentic travel experiences: pulsating metropolises, innumerable cultural and artistic treasures, and numerous nature reserves make the country quite an impressive travel destination.

The Republic of Serbia is a landlocked country at the center of the Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Europe. The directly neighbouring countries are Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania, Montenegro, Bosnia-Herzegovina and Croatia. Serbia’s total area is 88,361 square kilometers.

Northern Serbia is flat whereas the middle and southern parts of the country are rather mountainous – 15 mountains have an altitude of over 2,000 meters. The Danube forms a natural connection to Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria. Serbia is located at the heart of this great European river and has some of the most pristine and impressive landscapes along the Danube. The Danube shapes Serbia in many ways and connects it to far-away seas.

Serbia connects the West with the East, which makes it a meeting place and crossroads of a variety of civilizations, cultures, faiths and landscapes.

The National Tourism Organization of Serbia (NTOS) was founded in 1994 as an NGO to promote and improve tourism.

The organization`s aim is to identify and communicate and promote the tourist potential of the country as well as the historical, cultural and natural treasures of Serbia.
