PRESIDENT’S REPORT

FOOTBALL REPORT

Dear Member, By the time you receive this Report, our 50th Anniversary celebrations will be over. It was a fantastic week of celebration and reminiscing of our formative years. The week culminated in our members’ car draw, and I congratulate that Member who was lucky enough to win the Toyota Corolla in our Promotion. The anniversary week also saw the re-release of our “History of the Hawks” book to cover the 50 years of our history, and if any member is interested there are some copies available for purchase at reception. This Journal contains our agenda for the coming A.G.M., and my report in that section highlights our year’s result. A full copy of the Club’s annual report can be viewed on the Club’s website. On the Club front, our application to the City of Ryde for a site specific DCP for the “Hawks” site is still in progress and we hope that a decision will be made by Council before the end of 2013 so that further plans can be made regarding the future of the site. By now members should see some progress in the construction of a second carpark lift, and hopefully this work will be finished before Christmas, as programmed. The completion of the second lift should ensure that any future inconvenience to members is minimised or even averted.

The Wests Tigers State Cup team’s season finished with a loss to Newcastle in the Semi-Final at Leichhardt Oval by 38-10 after they had defeated Auckland the previous week in the Qualifying Semi-Final by 34-24. With the large injury toll suffered by the Wests Tigers N.R.L. and State Cup squads over the year, (the team used 44 players over the 26 week period of the Competition), it was always going to be hard to progress very far, and to finish in the semi-final was itself very good under the circumstances. To Paul Fletcher and his Staff go our thanks for a job well done under these trying conditions. TEAM OF THE HALF CENTURY The reunion held at the Club on the 19th October, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formation of the Club, saw the unveiling of the “Team of the Half Century”. The selection of the team was a difficult one considering it spanned 50 years and many different competitions. The Team is listed below and we extend our congratulations to all who have been nominated: FULLBACK DAVE BARSLEY WING WING STEVE BROUGHTON JOHN VANDENBERG CENTRE CENTRE KEN WELLS BRAD WILSON

Your Club’s board and senior management are currently undertaking a Masterplan for the Club site and adjoining Club-owned land. We will keep members informed in the coming months as the Masterplan develops. This Masterplan will determine the future direction our Club should take with regard to any future development of the Club and adjacent land holdings. The major aim is to ensure future development is undertaken in a way that not only protects the Club’s financial position in the future, but also provides additional amenities for Club members. On a sad note, I have to report on the passing of Warwick Porter, who was a Director and Vice-President of our Club for over 30 years. To Warwick’s family, may I offer our sincere condolences on the loss of this humble and well-liked gentleman. In conclusion, as this Journal will be the last for this year, may I wish all Members and their Families a very merry Christmas and a happy and prosperous New Year for 2014. Keith Aggett President

KEEP YOUR LITTLE ONES SAFE THIS SUMMER Toddlers are curious by nature and often attracted by water, however, they have little fear or understanding of the possible dangers posed. As they learn to crawl and walk, their ability to access water hazards such as pools, spas, and buckets is greatly increased. Toddlers tend to be ‘top heavy’ and can therefore easily lose balance and fall into bodies of water. Children can drown in as little as a few centimetres of water, so items such as inflatable swimming pools, baths, and nappy buckets all pose a drowning hazard. According to the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia, 49% of children aged 0-4 that drowned, did so in a swimming pool. The Fitness Edge Swim School recommends that parents and carers take the following precautions to reduce the risk of childhood drowning:

Supervise: • Ensure constant and active supervision. • Remain within an arm’s reach of young children as they can drown quickly and silently. • Never leave a young child unsupervised; always take your child with you if you have to leave the water area, even if you will only be one for a short period. • Don’t expect older children to look after younger siblings. Children have short attention spans and can be easily distracted. • Nominate a parent or carer to supervise any children near the water when you have visitors.

Reduce the Hazard: • Restrict the child’s access to water through safety barriers such as pool fencing. • Don’t leave objects near a pool fence that will enable children to climb into a pool, e.g. pot plants and chairs. • Don‘t leave any gates or doors propped open that might allow children access to a body of water. • Create a safe play area for children, especially on farms and large properties that are separated from bodies of water such as swimming pools, dams and water troughs.

Resuscitation Everyone can be a lifesaver. A family member is the first on the scene in most emergency situations. In fact, many children survive emergency situations because their parents know how to perform CPR and respond quickly. For this reason alone we here at the Fitness Edge Swim School encourage everyone to learn CPR. Having the skills to respond in an emergency situation can mean the difference between life and death. Resuscitation or Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) involves stimulating the heart and breathing air into the lungs to preserve or restore life. Resuscitation involves establishing or maintaining an airway, breathing and circulation. Resuscitate Checklist: DANGER - Check for danger to self, to bystanders and to victim RESPONSE - Shout “Are you OK?” and gently squeeze the victim’s shoulder SEND - Send for help AIRWAY - Clear and maintain airway BREATHING - Look, listen and feel for breathing COMPRESSIONS – If no signs of life, commence CPR DEFIBRILLATIONS – If available, grab a defibrillator and follow the prompts

We have a number of Preschooler and Baby position available in our Swim School. Classes run Monday to Friday 11am -12.30pm. Our after school programme for school age children is generally booked out. Priority is always given to preschool age children “going to big school”, who are already part of our programme, so we encourage you to start your children’s swimming programme early, wherever possible.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT Dear Member, It is pleasing to announce the profit for the Financial Year of 2012-2013 to be $4,106,754 after tax, which is $344,616 above last year’s $3,762,138 result. This result is again a great achievement and highlights the efforts and contributions of all concerned, from Board, management and staff, but mainly the continued support of you, the Member. My thanks go to General Manager, Chris McCarthy, and his team of Carl Pozatto ( Operations Manager) Jo Luke ( Human Resources), Nathan Hawton ( Gaming) Martin Westbrook (Beverage) Dean Owen (Marketing) The Fitness Edge and Swim School teams and all managers, supervisors and staff for their continued efforts to ensure this Club remains at the forefront in our Industry. To my fellow Directors go my thanks for your support and direction in the many crucial decisions we have had to make over the year. With so many new regulations being introduced in this time it is to your credit that this Club is so strong and continues to move forward.

This year’s Club Grants Programme saw $ 438,000 donated to various local charity, community and sporting groups. This total excluded grants to our own Ryde-Eastwood District Football Club for the propagation of Rugby League, for which the Club was founded. Full details of the various amounts are listed on the Club’s website. Our A.G.M. to be held in November this year has some resolutions to be put forward in regard to changes to the Club’s Constitution. These changes to the constitution are proposed to enable the Club to comply with new State Government regulations in relation to corporate governance and board sizes, which will come into effect in the next few years. The early adoption of the changes will ensure the Club does not incur the expense of an extraordinary general meeting to ensure compliance with the new regulations. GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT Members, The 2013 Annual Report highlights a record after tax net profit for Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club of $4,106,754. This result follows on from the previous year’s record net result and reflects strong support from the local community for the facilities that your club provides.

October saw the 50th Anniversary celebrations for both the Leagues Club and the Football Club. The festivities happened between the time of writing and when members will read this report, including a draw for a new Toyota Corolla. Congratulations to the member who won the car. We hope you enjoy your prize. On the football front, Ryde-Eastwood District Rugby League Football Club was a major sponsor of the West Tigers Premier League team in 2013. The team was knocked out in the semi-finals. We trust that 2014 is a better year for the Tigers all around.

Again, the year in review was not without its share of highs and lows. The major threat from the Federal Government in the form of the proposed mandatory pre-commitment technology was largely fought off in 2012, but there were still other regulatory issues that the industry had to contend with, including proposed new ATM legislation – that would have limited ATM withdrawals within gaming venues to $250. I am pleased to say that the newly elected Liberal Government is expected to repeal that legislation, and common sense will have prevailed.

What’s planned for the coming year? For the Ryde-Eastwood site minimal works are currently proposed or planned. A second lift is currently being installed in the carpark and should be operational before Christmas. The requirement for a second lift was highlighted earlier this year when the existing lift was out of service for more than 2 weeks, which created great difficulty for members and guests during this period.

Energy efficiency is still a major focus for the club, with an upgrade to parts of our air conditioning system coming online last June. This, coupled with the major lighting upgrade undertaken in mid 2012, has seen further reductions to our energy use and of course our costs. Further opportunities for savings are always under review.

The Club is also undertaking a Masterplan for the main club site and surrounding properties. The purpose of the Masterplan is to determine the best use of the Club’s property in the coming decades. This is a major planning exercise and the future direction will be passed onto members in subsequent journals.

2012 also saw the change of the Club’s restaurant to the Golden Hawk Chinese Restaurant. This was a major change, stemming from concern of a long term trend of reduced patronage for the old Hawk’s Nest Restaurant. I am pleased to advise that this new catering option has proven very successful, with the level of usage of the restaurant substantially increased. The increased patronage will ensure that we are still able to provide a restaurant facility for our members to use for that special occasion, as well as provide a great alternative dining option within the club.

Predictions for the coming year? In 2012, what I predicted and hoped for but only partially achieved was, “Hopefully a sustained period of political stability in relation to the Club industry, to allow us to concentrate on running your Club rather than battling with Governments. For the economy, hopefully also a prolonged period of stability”. For 2013 I am predicting the same but this time with more confidence, with a change of Government which appears to be supportive of business endeavours.

Hawks on Second Avenue The Club’s board and management have been working with Ryde Council and our consultants to develop a site specific DCP (Development Control Plan) for the Hawks site. The Plan, which provides for a townhouse style development with underground parking, has been on public exhibition over October and is now back with Ryde Council officers to analyse the submissions received and a make a final recommendation to Ryde Council, which we hope will be presented before the end of 2013. Members can view a summary of the draft DCP on the Club’s website. The Club’s holiday units at Ocean Plaza have recently undergone a mini upgrade with new furnishings and décor to modernise the look and ensure the presentation of the units matches their million dollar ocean views. If you haven’t used the Club’s units at Ocean Plaza, I urge you to visit the Club’s website and check out the standard of amenity offered in the Club’s six units, and more importantly the very competitive tariff offered to members. The Fitness Edge The newly refurbished Fitness Edge continues to provide an excellent fitness facility for Club members. The fitness facility along with the Fitness Edge Swim School provide our local community with excellent health and fitness options that would not have been possible without the foresight of the Board in the mid-1990s, who believed the community needed these facilities. If you haven’t yet visited the Fitness Edge, please inspect the facilities on on your next visit to view what a great community asset it is.

On the staff front, I acknowledge the support of all the team for the dedication to their job, support of the Club’s objectives and their efforts in achieving the financial result in the past year. Your Club is fortunate to have a very experienced senior management team who have provided great service to the Club for a long period of time. This, combined with an excellent service team, has helped us achieve the excellent financial results – well done to all the team! Staff have also participated in the 10km Run for Fun charity fun event at Homebush for the last 3 years in support of the Children’s Medical Research Institute. Last year there was an extra donation incentive to “beat the boss” it worked… and I am still recovering! This year (27th October) we again have nearly 50 staff participating to raise funds. The Second Resolution is to approve an amount no greater than $130,000 for the expenditure by the Club in relation to duties performed in or about the Club by directors and expenditure for directors to attend seminars, lectures, trade displays and other similar events including the Clubs NSW Annual General Meeting and to visit other clubs to enable the Club’s governing body to be kept abreast of current trends and developments which may have a significant bearing on the nature and way in which the Club conducts its business. This resolution also includes an option for directors to participate in organised intrastate, interstate or overseas trips to view and assess facilities. This option has been included in our Annual General Meeting Agenda for the last fifteen years and has been used only once. However prior approval is required by members to ensure the club complies with relevant legislation. Part (i) of the resolution to include reasonable expenses of partners of directors is to allow the availability of directors to attend meetings that are expected or required for their development and knowledge and are often held in distant locations.

(iv) Two free meals and beverages per fortnight for each Life Member of the Club who is not a Director of the Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Limited (not to exceed $120 for each meal); (v) Presentations to members and other persons acknowledging services deemed by the directors as being of benefit to the Club. The members acknowledge that the benefits in paragraph (a) above are not available to members generally but only those members who fall within the various categories of membership referred to. 2. SECOND ORDINARY RESOLUTION (a) That pursuant to the Registered Clubs Act the members hereby approve and agree to expenditure by the Club in a sum not exceeding $130,000 for the following benefits, professional development and education of directors until the next Annual General Meeting and being: (i) The reasonable cost of directors attending the ClubsNSW and Leagues Clubs Australia quarterly and annual general meetings and the reasonable costs of directors attending formal functions to represent the club including but not limited to functions and dinners conducted by ClubsNSW, and Leagues Clubs Australia and including costs associated with the Directors’ partners where attendance is expected and required. (ii) The reasonable cost of directors attending seminars, lectures, trade displays and other similar events as may be determined by the Board from time to time as being of benefit for Club and the education of directors; (iii) The reasonable cost of directors attending or hosting other registered clubs for the purpose of viewing and assessing their facilities and methods of operation or for the purpose of meeting and exchanging ideas with the governing bodies of those other clubs provided such attendances are approved by the Board as being necessary for the betterment of the Club;

(iv) Ten car parking spaces for the exclusive use of directors;

(v) Duty directors, while on duty, shall be entitled to the use of a table in the Club auditorium without charge; (vi) Blazers and associated apparel for each director as may be necessary for new directors, and to replace those of existing directors which may need replacing; (vii) The reasonable cost of a meal and beverage for each director immediately after a Board or Committee meeting on the day of that meeting where that meeting coincides with a normal meal time; (viii) The reasonable cost of meal and beverage for each duty director and his or her partner when the duty director is on duty in the Club or within a reasonable period of that date; (ix) The reasonable cost of directors attending the Club’s holiday units to inspect them or to assess other holiday units for purchase by the Club provided such attendances and cost thereof are approved by the Board. (x) The reasonable cost of directors, senior management and their partners attending an annual dinner; including a token of appreciation for partners.The total value of tokens of appreciation not to exceed $1200. (xi) The reasonable cost of directors of the Club attending an organised intrastate, interstate or overseas tour as determined by the Board of the Club for the purpose of viewing and assessing the facilities of casinos, hotels and entertainment venues and determining trends in relation to entertainment, decor, gaming, marketing and promotion and thereafter for such director to make a detailed written report thereon to the Board of the Club; (xii) The reasonable expense incurred by directors in relation to such other duties including entertainment of special guests to the Club and other promotional activities performed by directors which activities and the expense there from are approved by the Board, on production of receipts, invoices or other proper documentary evidence of such expenditure; (xiii) That the members approve that directors and other members be entitled to represent the Club at sponsored sports events by invitation. (xiv) The reasonable cost of providing Directors with internet access to access a secure website for board meeting minutes and agenda items (b) The members acknowledge that the benefits in paragraph (a) above, are

RYDE-EASTWOOD LEAGUES CLUB LIMITED NOTICE OF SPECIAL RESOLUTIONS SPECIAL RESOLUTION 1 “That the Constitution of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Limited be amended by: • Deleting Rule 48 and inserting instead the following new Rule 48: “48. (a) Up to the conclusion of the 2014 Annual General Meeting, the business and affairs of the Club and the custody and control of its funds and property is to be managed by a Board of ten (10) Directors consisting of a President, Vice President and eight (8) Ordinary Board members. (b) On and from the conclusion of the 2014 Annual General Meeting, the business and affairs of the Club and the custody and control of its funds and property is to be managed by a Board of nine (9) Directors consisting of a President, Vice President and seven (7) Ordinary Board members.” • Deleting Rule 58(c) and inserting instead the following new Rule 58(c): “(c) (i) Up to the conclusion of the 2014 Annual General Meeting, the quorum for meetings of the Board shall be six (6) members personally present. (ii) On and from the conclusion of the 2014 Annual General Meeting, the quorum for meetings of the Board shall be five (5) members personally present.” • Adding new Rule 58(d) as follows: “(d) A meeting of the Board may be called using any technology consented to by all Directors. The consent may be a standing one. A Director may withdraw his or her consent within a reasonable period before the meeting.”” Explanatory message regarding Special Resolution 1 1. If the Special Resolution 1 is passed, the Club’s Board of Directors will be reduced from 10 members to 9 members from the conclusion of the 2014 Annual General Meeting. The next election of the Board will take place in 2014 and therefore the reduction in the size of the Board is proposed to take place from the next election and conclusion of the ensuing Annual General Meeting. 2. The reasons for the proposed reduction in the number of Directors are: (a) Maintain Code of Practice Best Practice Guidelines on Board Composition; (b) Greater efficiency and effectiveness in conduct of Board business; and (c) Optimisation of the size of the Board taking account the Club’s needs and size of membership. 3. The ClubsNSW Code of Practice Best Practice Guideline on Board

Composition states that the optimum size of a registered club board of directors is 5 to 8 directors plus the chairperson (i.e. a total of 9 directors). Given the size of the Club and its business, the size and composition of the Board and the Club’s membership size, it is considered that a reduction of one (1) is an appropriate reduction at this time. 4. In addition, section 10(k1) of the Registered Clubs Act was enacted in late 2011 and provides that the governing bodies or boards of registered clubs must not, on and from a date (or the happening of an event) as may be prescribed by the Registered Clubs Regulation 2009 (NSW) (Registered Clubs Regulation) exceed 9 persons. Presently, the Registered Clubs Regulation does not prescribe a date or event from which all registered clubs must have a maximum number of 9 directors. 5. However, the Office of Liquor, Gaming and Racing has advised that the Registered Clubs Regulation will shortly prescribe the date of 1 July 2016 from which all registered clubs must have 9 directors or less. 6. If the Second Special Resolution is passed, the Club will comply with the mandatory legislative requirements in time for their anticipated commencement. 7. If the size of the Board of Directors is to be reduced from 10 members to 9 members, it is necessary to make consequential changes to the Rule 58(c) (regarding quorums for meetings of the Board). The quorum for Board meetings will be reduced to 5 Board members from the 2014 Annual General Meeting. 8. Proposed new Rule 58(d) will allow the Board to conduct meetings using any technology consented to by all Directors. For example, Board meetings could be conducted using telephone conferencing or video conferencing technology. This type of rule is common for many companies, including registered clubs. SPECIAL RESOLUTION 2 “That the Constitution of Ryde-Eastwood Leagues Club Limited is amended by: • Deleting Rule 24 and inserting instead the following new Rule 24: “24.(a) Life Members, financial Club Members and financial Foundation Members who were Full Members of the Club as at 24 November 2011 will have the following rights (subject to any further restrictions contained in this Constitution): (i) to attend and to vote at all General Meetings; (ii) to vote for the election of the Board; (iii) to be nominated for, elected to and hold office on the Board; and (iv) to vote on any Special Resolution including any Special Resolution to amend this Constitution. (b) Life Members and financial Club members who became Full Members of the Club after 24 November 2011 and before the conclusion of the 2013 Annual General Meeting who have at least 3 years standing as a Full member will have the following rights (subject to any further restrictions in this Constitution): (i) to attend and to vote at all General Meetings; (ii) to vote for the election of the Board; (iii) to be nominated for, elected to and hold office on the Board; (iv) and to vote on any Special Resolution including any Special Resolution to amend this Constitution. (c) Life Members and financial Club members who became Full Members of the Club after the conclusion of the 2013 Annual General Meeting who have at least 5 years standing as a Full member will have the following rights (subject to any further restrictions in this Constitution): (i) to attend and to vote at all General Meetings; (ii) to vote for the election of the Board; (iii) to be nominated for, elected to and hold office on the Board; (iv) and to vote on any Special Resolution including any Special Resolution to amend this Constitution. (d) For the purposes of Rules 24(b) and 24(c) and determining whether a member has 3 years or 5 years standing as a Full member for nomination, election or appointment to the Board, the date by which the member must have attained such standing will be the date of opening of nominations for election, or in the case of an appointment of a member to fill a casual vacancy on the Board, the date of appointment. (e) Junior Members shall be entitled to the use of such facilities of the Club as the Board shall determine from time to time but shall not be entitled to attend and vote at any general meeting of the Club. • Deleting Rule 49 and inserting instead the following new Rule 49: “49. (a) (i) A Life member, financial Club member or financial Foundation member who was a Full member as at 24 November 2011 shall be qualified to be a director of the Club (subject to any further restrictions contained in this Constitution); (ii) A Life member or a financial Club member who became a Full member of the Club after 24 November 2011 and before the conclusion of the 2013 Annual General Meeting shall be qualified to be a director of the Club if he or she has at least 3 years standing as a Full member as at the date of opening of nominations for election or, in the case of an appointment to fill a casual vacancy on the Board, as at the date of the appointment (subject to any further restrictions contained in this Constitution); and (iii) A Life member or a financial Club member who became a Full member of the Club after the conclusion of the 2013 Annual General Meeting shall be qualified to be a director of the Club if he or she has at least 5 years standing as a Full member as at the date of opening of nominations for election or, in the case of an appointment to fill a casual vacancy on the Board, as at the date of the

appointment (subject to any further restrictions contained in this Constitution).” • Deleting Rule 98 and inserting instead the following new Rule 98: “98. This Constitution may be amended only by a resolution passed by a threequarters majority of: (a) Life members, financial Club members and financial Foundation members who were Full members as at 24 November 2011; (b) Life members and financial Club members who became Full members after 24 November 2011 and before the conclusion of the 2013 Annual General Meeting and who have at least 3 years standing as a Full member, and (c) Life members and financial Club members who became Full members after the conclusion of the 2013 Annual General Meeting and who have at least 5 years standing as a Full member, who are present and voting at a General Meeting, being a meeting at which at least twenty-one (21) days written notice specifying the intention to propose a resolution as a Special Resolution has been given in accordance with the Act.”” Explanatory message regarding Special Resolution 2 1. At the Club’s Annual General Meeting held on 24 November 2011, Rules 24, 49 and 98 were amended so that those Life members and financial Club members who became Full members (i.e. persons who are Ordinary or Life members of the Club) on or after that Annual General Meeting must have at least 3 years standing as Full members before they may eligible to attend or vote at General Meetings on any resolution, including ordinary and special resolutions (and including special resolutions to amend the Constitution), vote for the election of the Board or to be nominated for, elected to or hold office on the Board. 2. The rights of existing Foundation members, Club members and Life members were not be affected. They were not subject to the qualification period under Rules 24, 49(a) and 98 which applied from 24 November 2011. 3. The Board considers that it is appropriate that after the conclusion of the 2013 Annual General Meeting, rights to attend and vote at General Meetings and to hold office on the Board of Directors should be subject to a minimum period of 5 years Full membership of the Club. This new qualification period would not affect existing Foundation members, Life members and Club members. 4. Most registered clubs have some form of qualification period applying to new members before they may exercise certain rights, such as voting on resolutions and/or holding office on the Board of Directors. The increase in the qualification period encourages longer term membership of the Club and ensures that members who have a genuine interest in the future of the Club may take part in Club’s decision making processes. In accordance with Rules 24 and 98 of the Club’s Constitution, only Life Members, financial Club Members and financial Foundation Members are entitled to vote on the Special Resolutions. As 3 years has not passed existing Rules 24 and 98 were adopted, any Life Members and financial Club Members who became Full Members after 24 November 2011 will not be able to vote on the Special Resolutions. 3. To be passed the Special Resolutions must receive votes in their favour from not less than three-quarters of those members who being eligible to do so, vote in person at the meeting. 4. As a result of the Special Resolution provisions of the Corporations Act, the Special Resolutions must be considered as a whole and cannot be altered by motions from the floor of the meeting. 5. To be passed, each of the Special Resolutions will be voted on separately. 6. Members who are employees of the Club are not entitled to vote. 7. We congratulate so many of our members who have gained recognition and awards, both within our club and in external competitions for their wonderful images. It is sometimes hard to believe that the images presented are the work of our members. But when you speak to the author of the image, they are only too happy to share the what, why and how. And that key element of sharing what each member knows becomes so evident. The month of August saw members presenting images with the theme of Nature. In September members presented an array of images from diverse areas of interest. At our October competition night, we were treated to amazing images of skateboarders and BMX riders in action. How were those pictures captured? And November provides members with the chance to see the images they have taken on different club outings. Each month provides members with digital enhancement workshops. These are organised to assist members with skills to enhance and enrich their images. And to cap the year off, we look forward to our Christmas Dinner, and the presentation of awards to members that achieved outstanding recognition for their photographic work. Come and join us and share your photographs. There is always a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits provided for us by Ryde-Eastwood Club. CHESS CLUB The Club Championship preliminaries are complete as is The Egon Cardenas / Greig Edwards playoff, with Egon going through to the finals. The handicap winner in Group B was Greig Edwards. The interclub grade matches are now complete with the following results: U2000 team came third (out of 5 clubs) with a score of 16/32, and the U1700 team came third (out of 4 clubs) with a score of 15½/36. The U1500 ‘Checks’ team finished in second place (out of 8 teams) with a score of 24½/40, while their mates the ‘Mates’ team scored 21/40 in third place. The club’s blitz championship was won by Donato Mallari with a score of 9/10; second was Arthur Huynh on 8/10. The club’s annual Bobby Fischer Cup (20 minutes per player plus 10 seconds per move) is well underway. Winning scores so far are: Arthur Huynh on 21½/23 (out of a possible 24 games), Donato Mallari 20½/23, Julian Kuan 19½/22, Stephen Liu 17½/21, Egon Cardenas 17/21, and Bill Gletsos 16½/20. This event will finish in the next few weeks and be followed by the club championship finals and the Ryde-Eastwood Classic tournament. EUCHRE CLUB With the Festive Season creeping up on us the Euchre Club committee is in the throes of organising our Christmas function to be held on December 3rd in the Golden Hawk Restaurant.
