ARTIST BIO Ryan O’Hare (b. 1989) is an animator and video/new media artist living in Peekskill, NY. He grew up in Lebanon, Ky and attended the Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville, receiving a BFA in 3D Studio Art. Ryan works at the Paramount Network as a Designer/Animator in SoHo, a job that runs adjacent to his artistic practice. His artwork examines the human condition in the dawn of the digital age.
ARTIST statement Ryan’s work examines the human condition through video and digital art. Using animation, special effects, augmented reality, virtual reality, and digital printmaking, he investigates the ephemeral, the uncanny, and what it means to be human in the dawn of the digital age. The passage of time and the ephemeral nature of human existence is key to understanding the human condition. “Ephemera” is created by digitally removing people from publicly archived footage of significant historical events. The resulting video leaves a trace of the person behind and serves as an echo of the recorded moment in time.
