Dal 12 al 15 marzo si terrà la 43° edizione di Mostra Convegno Expocomfort, un appuntamento atteso per conoscere i più recenti sviluppi tecnologici nei settori dell’impiantistica, dell’efficienza energetica, del comfort e dell’uso intelligente dell’acqua.

Guidare l’innovazione efficiente e sostenibile

sSe c’è un evento in cui esperti di settore, energy manager, professionisti, system integrator possono aggiornarsi sulle ultime tecnologie dedicate ai settori dell’HVAC+R, delle energie rinnovabili, dell’efficienza energetica e dell’impiantistica integrata, questo è sicuramente Mostra Convegno Expocomfort. La manifestazione, conosciuta dagli addetti ai lavori come MCE, è giunta all’edizione numero 43 e si propone come un punto di riferimento per le tematiche legate alla decarbonizzazione e alla transizione energetica

grazie a un nuovo approccio multi-energetico e multi-tecnologico. In che modo? Attraverso un percorso che si traduce in evoluzione per l’innovazione, sfida verso l’efficienza e la sostenibilità ambientale, economica e sociale.

IL RUOLO GUIDA DELL’INNOVAZIONE Proprio per assurgere a questo ruolo di guida, MCE 2024 si presenta in una veste rinnovata ricca di format inediti, di concorsi e premi e di un nuovo layout, che vede la convergenza e l’integrazione delle tecnologie, la definizione

di nuovi collegamenti diretti e l’ottimizzazione dei percorsi di visita. In definitiva, di nuove opportunità per gli espositori e i visitatori. Aziende e professionisti potranno così dialogare in modo ancora più semplice lungo un percorso logico all’interno dei padiglioni.

UN NUOVO LAYOUT LOGICO

Ormai non si parla più di caldo e di freddo, ma di comfort estivo e invernale, di climatizzazione a 360 gradi per 365 giorni all’anno. Per la prima volta queste tematiche sono state racchiuse sotto l’unica matrice dell’Indoor Climate e occuperanno i padiglioni 1/3, 5/7, 9/11 e 14/18. That’s Smart sarà integrata al centro

della manifestazione (pad. 5), dove si svilupperanno eventi di approfondimento dedicati all’integrazione tecnologica: dall’efficienza energetica agli smart building, dalle fonti rinnovabili alla mobilità elettrica, dalla building automation alle comunità energetiche.

I padiglioni 2/4 saranno interamente dedicati alla componentistica per impianti, collegati direttamente ai padiglioni 6/10 che ospiteranno tecnica sanitaria, ambiente bagno, trattamento acqua e attrezzeria e utensileria.

The 43rd edition of Mostra Convegno Expocomfort will run from 12 to 15 March, an event eagerly awaited by those who want to learn more about the latest technological innovations, the market of systems and solutions for energy and efficiency, the climate and the intelligent use of water.

If there is an event where industry experts, energy managers, professionals and system integrators can keep up to date with the latest technologies dedicated to the world of HVAC+R, renewable energy, energy efficiency and integrated plant engineering, this event is certainly Mostra Convegno Expocomfort. Known by insiders as MCE, the fair is now in its 43rd edition, also becoming in time a reference point for issues related to decarbonization and energy transition thanks to a new multi-energy and multi-technology approach. How so? Through a path that aims at evolution for innovation, a challenge towards efficiency and environmental, economic and social sustainability.

THE LEADING ROLE OF INNOVATION

Precisely to rise to this leading role, MCE 2024 presents itself in a renewed format full of new side events, contests and prizes and a new layout promoting the convergence and integration of technologies, the individuation of new direct connections and the optimization of visitor routes. Ultimately, new opportunities for exhibitors and visitors. Companies and professionals will

thus be able to communicate in an even simpler way along a logical path within the halls of the fairgrounds.

A NEW RATIONAL LAYOUT

Today we no longer talk about heating and cooling, but about summer and winter comfort, all-round air conditioning for 365 days a year. For the first time, these issues will be dealt with in a single section, Indoor Climate, occupying Halls 1/3, 5/7, 9/11 and 14/18. That’s Smart will be hosted in Hall 5, the core of the fair, where in-depth events dedicated to technological integration will be held: from energy efficiency to smart buildings, from renewable sources to electric mobility, from building automation to energy communities. Halls 2/4 will be entirely dedicated to HVAC components, directly connected to halls 6/10 which will house plumbing technology, the bathroom world, water treatment as well as implements and tools.

In addition to the topics covered, a major, fundamental, element of added value is the participation of the

Beyond Comfort è il payoff di MCE 2024: cosa racchiude?

La transizione energetica ha dato vita a una trasformazione tecnologica e culturale. Quest’anno MCE vuole essere ancora più coinvolgente e attenta all’innovazione e al futuro del settore, in un momento di grande trasformazione, in cui l’evoluzione tecnologica sta offrendo aiuti sempre più concreti per garantire la diminuzione delle emissioni. Con Beyond Comfort intendiamo letteralmente andare oltre il concetto di comfort, perché il suo stesso significato è cambiato. Oggi si parla di qualità dell’aria, di benessere, di comfort termico, acustico, abitativo. L’invito è quello di andare appunto “oltre il comfort” allargando la platea di riferimento per l’efficientamento energetico.

Su quali tematiche si concentra la 43° edizione?

Le parole chiave di MCE 2024 sono tre: Innovazione, Sostenibilità ed Efficienza Energetica. L’efficienza energetica – da sempre presente in MCE – è un driver fondamentale in tutti i settori ed è in grado non solo di combattere la crisi energetica che stiamo vivendo, ma di far sviluppare nuovi business model e nuove strategie verso la carbon neutrality. La sostenibilità, definibile come l’uso razionale e senza sprechi delle risorse, è e sarà uno dei valori portanti dell’industria per i prossimi anni,

trasformandosi in vero valore differenziante. Anche l’innovazione tecnologica ha un valore multiforme e impattante ed è da intendersi al servizio della sostenibilità ambientale, economica e sociale che si concretizzerà nell’iniziativa MCE Excellence Awards.

I tre pillar si snodano lungo altrettanti percorsi – Industriale, Smartness e Idrogeno – volti ad aumentare l’interesse dei visitatori e guidare gli operatori nella scelta delle migliori soluzioni.

Un tema caldo nel mondo dell’energia è quello dell’idrogeno. Già presente nella precedente edizione di MCE nel 2022, a livello di contenuti, che ruolo ha quest’anno?

L’idrogeno riveste un ruolo chiave nella transizione verso fonti energetiche più sostenibili e offre numerose opportunità in diversi settori, come l’industria, i trasporti e la produzione di energia. In fiera abbiamo realizzato - all’interno del padiglione 1 – l’area Hydrogen Hub interamente dedicata ai componenti e alle tecnologie legate all’idrogeno, con l’obiettivo di aprire nuovi canali e relazioni internazionali per l’intera filiera. L’area, ben identificata, vede la presenza di specifici desk, di un’area networking e di una per i workshop dove verranno organizzate sessioni di carattere istituzionale, di mercato e presentazioni di case history aziendali.

Beyond Comfort is the payoff of MCE 2024: what is its meaning?

The energy transition has given rise to a technological and cultural change. This year MCE aims to be even more engaging and attentive to innovation and the future of the industry, at a time of great transformations, in which technological evolution is offering increasingly concrete help to ensure the reduction of emissions. Beyond Comfort literally means going beyond the concept of comfort, because its very meaning has changed. Today we talk about air quality, well-being, thermal, acoustic and living comfort. The invitation is to go “beyond comfort” by expanding the target audience for energy efficiency.

What issues will the 43rd edition be focusing on?

There are three key words for MCE 2024: Innovation, Sustainability and Energy Efficiency.

Energy efficiency – always present at MCE – is a fundamental driver in all sectors that enables us not only to combat the current energy crisis, but also to develop new business models and new strategies towards carbon neutrality

Sustainability, which can be defined as the rational and waste-free use of resources, is and will be one of the core values of the industry for the coming years, becoming a true differentiating aspect.

Technological innovation also has a multifaceted and impactful value and is intended at the service of environmental, economic and social sustainability that will take the form of the MCE Excellence Awards. These issues will be addressed along as many paths – Industry, Smart systems and Hydrogen – aimed at increasing the visitors’ interest and guiding operators in individuating the best solutions.

• MCE Excellence Awards: dedicated to the components, systems and technologies that speed up the energy transition, in line with the achievement of the 17 goals (SDGs) in the UN Agenda 2030. The technologies proposed by the exhibitors will be showcased in Hall 18.

• Water Prix: this new contest launched in collaboration with Aqua Italia and ANGAISA on the intelligent use of water will also involve visitors.

A hot topic in the world of energy is hydrogen, already discussed in the previous edition of MCE in 2022. What role is it going to play this year?

Hydrogen plays a key role in the transition to more sustainable energy sources and offers numerous opportunities in different sectors, such as industry, transportation and power generation. At the fair, we created the Hydrogen Hub area in Hall 1 entirely dedicated to hydrogen-related components and technologies, with the aim of opening new channels and international relationships for the entire supply chain. This section is well identified and sees the presence of specific desks, a networking area and a workshops area hosting institutional and market sessions and presentations of company case histories.

MCE Excellence Awards: una sinfonia per la transizione

Gli impianti sono come una grande orchestra. Ogni componente e ogni sistema sono come uno strumento che contribuisce a creare quell’armonia necessaria per raggiungere lo scopo: garantire il comfort con un impatto ambientale che tende alla neutralità climatica, con costi accettabili.

E come in una orchestra non tutti gli strumenti sono uguali e a volte i primi violini fanno la

differenza, anche negli impianti alcuni componenti sono più strategici di altri ma tutti hanno la stessa importanza. Perché a volte basta che un solo componente impiantistico, a torto considerato minore, dia dei problemi, ed ecco che l’armonia tanto auspicata si spezza. Lo sanno bene i progettisti, gli installatori e i gestori di impianti, che in tempi diversi assumono il ruolo di “direttori d’orchestra”

di sistemi tecnologici sempre più complessi. Perché per poter raggiungere obiettivi tanto sfidanti è indispensabile fare i conti proprio con la complessità.

Le sfide che il mondo impiantistico deve affrontare sono davvero importanti e impegnative, perché spetta a questo ecosistema passare dalle parole ai fatti. E una transizione energetica concreta è fatta non solo di scelte oculate, ma anche di capacità nel mettere insieme tutti i pezzi dell’orchestra impiantistica, scegliendo sempre il meglio che il mercato può offrire.

La bella notizia è che questo meglio, distribuito in tutto il sedime fieristico di MCE - Mostra Convegno Expocomfort 2024, viene valorizzato anche quest’anno da una iniziativa importante.

MCE EXCELLENCE AWARDS

Il “Percorso Efficienza & Innovazione” di MCE, l’iniziativa che consentiva ai visitatori di individuare prodotti e sistemi innovativi rappresentanti dell’eccellenza delle tecnologie esposte in fiera, quest’anno si evolve nel premio “MCE Excellence Awards” - Efficiency&Innovation for Transition Goals, che sarà assegnato ai componenti, ai sistemi e in generale alle tecnologie che saranno protagoniste nell’accelerazione della transizione energetica e ambientale collegata all’agenda 2030 delle Nazioni Unite siglata nel 2015.

L’iniziativa di quest’anno, alla quale partecipano espositori di MCE in modo volontario, è importante e utile perché consente di avere una visione unitaria su ciò che di meglio il mercato mette a disposizione per affrontare le sfide. Ma soprattutto riuscirà a dare una risposta a una domanda che in molti si pongono: per concretizzare questa forte accelerazione verso gli obiettivi dell’Agenda 2030, oltre che quelli della neutralità climatica al 2050 imposti dal Green New Deal europeo, abbiamo fin da oggi gli strumenti adatti?

The MCE Excellence Awards event is a perfect vantage point on the state of the art of system engineering which, in Hall 18 at MCE 2024, will allow visitors to touch the technologies that will make it possible to achieve the challenging goals of Agenda 2030.

The systems in a building are like a big orchestra. Each component and each system is like an instrument that contributes to creating the harmony necessary to achieve the goal: guaranteeing comfort with an environmental impact that tends towards climate neutrality, at acceptable costs.

And like in an orchestra not all instruments are the same and sometimes the first violins make the difference, also in systems some components may be more strategic than others though all have the same importance. This is because sometimes even a single system component, wrongly considered minor, may be enough to cause problems, so the harmony is broken. Designers, fitters and system managers are well aware of this, and at different times they take on the role of “orchestra conductors” of increasingly complex technological systems, as in order to achieve such challenging goals, it is essential to deal with complexity.

The challenges that the plant engineering world has to face are really important and demanding, because it is up to this ecosystem to move from words to deeds. And a concrete energy transition is made not only of prudent decisions, but also of the ability to put together all the pieces of the system orchestra, always choosing the best that the market can offer.

The good news is that this best – distributed throughout the MCE-Mostra Convegno Expocomfort 2024 exhibition halls – is enhanced again this year by a great initiative.

L’adesione a questa iniziativa è stata importante: oltre 50 prodotti che coprono tutte le componenti impiantistiche, dalla generazione del caldo o del freddo alla regolazione, dalla distribuzione dei vettori termici alla non meno importante componentistica. Sarà possibile quindi comprendere come le aziende espositrici di MCE 2024 siano riuscite a tra-

sformare le criticità ambientali e le politiche che accompagnano la transizione verso una completa decarbonizzazione, con i vincoli ambientali stringenti e a volte apparentemente insuperabili in opportunità di innovazione e crescita tecnologica che avrà come nuovi co-protagonisti i combustibili green, a partire dall’idrogeno, e l’Intelligenza Artificiale. Nel Padiglione 18, nello spazio dedicato a questa importante iniziativa, sarà possibile avere uno sguardo d’insieme sulla neutralità tecnologica e sulla complessità ben governata di questa orchestra impiantistica.

MCE’s “Efficiency & Innovation Path” - the initiative that allowed visitors to individuate innovative products and systems that represent the state-of-the-art technologies on display at the fair - this year evolves into the MCE Excellence Awards-Efficiency & Innovation for Transition Goals, recognizing the components, systems and technologies in general that will play a major role in the acceleration of the energy and environmental transition linked to the UN Agenda 2030 signed in 2015.

This year’s initiative, in which MCE exhibitors participate voluntarily, is important and useful because it allows us to have a unified vision of the best that the market offers to face the current challenges. But above all, it will give an answer to a question that many are asking: do we already have the right tools to achieve this strong acceleration towards the goals of Agenda 2030, as well as those of climate neutrality envisaged by the European Green New Deal by 2050?

The technologies selected will be exhibited in an area dedicated to MCE Excellence Awards in Hall 18 to demonstrate what the most advanced system engineering sector is already offering today to contribute to the achievement of many of the 17 Sustainable Development

Goals (SDGs) defined in Agenda 2030. We want to imagine this place not only as an interesting exhibition, but as a vantage point on the state of the art of plant engineering. Not an event exhibiting a series of documents, graphs, statistics and projections, but concrete objects to see and touch, a place where we can discuss what the reality of our future is.

The adhesion to this initiative is promising: over 50 products covering all system components, including heating or cooling, system control, heat carrier distribution and the no less important parts. It will therefore be possible to understand how MCE 2024 exhibitors have managed to transform the environmental criticalities and policies that accompany the transition to complete decarbonisation - with their stringent and sometimes seemingly insurmountable environmental constraints - into opportunities for innovation and technological growth that will have green fuels, starting with hydrogen, and Artificial Intelligence as the new co-protagonists.

In the area dedicated to this important initiative in Hall 18, it will be possible to have an overview of the technological neutrality and well-governed complexity of this orchestra of systems.

In large systems it is essential to guarantee the correct pressure for each user. When the water system pressure is higher than required, it may lead to malfunction, noise and water waste issues. Furthermore, potable water may become contaminated due to the backflow of medium from the

pipes and systems. Finally, it is important that domestic water devices can be easily maintained. The 539H combined group for pressure control allows you to overcome all these problems with a single device.

539H combines three different devices in a single component: a ball shut-off valve, a pressure reducing valve with filter and a EA type check valve. Installed on the pipe supplying hot or cold water to the users, it reduces the pressure of the water coming from the mains network, prevents the backflow of water into the mains system and allows users to be shut off during testing and maintenance procedures. The patented design of the device offers shorter installation times, a more compact unit and greater reliability and flexibility; it also requires less space on the pipe. The group can be accessorised with insulation and a pressure gauge.

Separatore idraulico serie 5485

Negli impianti ibridi, dotati di più pompe di circolazione, i circuiti primari e il secondario devono essere idraulicamente separati per evitare variazioni anomale delle portate e delle prevalenze.

In alcune modalità di funzionamento la pompa di calore richiede inoltre una quantità di energia termica sempre disponibile e quindi una portata d’acqua minima. Il separatore idraulico inerziale combina queste due funzioni in un unico dispositivo, ed è disponibile nella versione formulata appositamente per gli impianti ibridi.

In hybrid systems, equipped with multiple circulation pumps, the primary and secondary circuits must be hydraulically separated to avoid abnormal variations in flow rates and heads of the circuits. In some operating modes the heat pump also requires a quantity of thermal energy that is always available and therefore

a minimum water flow rate. The inertial hydraulic separator combines these two functions in a single device, and is available in the version specifically formulated for hybrid systems.

The 5485 series 6-connection buffer tank hydraulic separator for hybrid systems combines the function of hydraulic separator and inertial volume. In fact, it allows the boiler and heat pump to be connected in parallel in hybrid systems, hydraulically separating the two primary circuits and the secondary user circuit, and at the same time guarantees with its volume the minimum water content in the system for correct operation. The stainless steel body helps keep the system clean. It is equipped with insulation suitable for both heating and cooling systems. This series is also designed for wall installation.

Negli impianti a pompa di calore monoblocco e hydrosplit il circuito idraulico ha un tratto esterno che collega la pompa di calore al resto dell’impianto. Questo tratto può essere sottoposto al rischio di gelo, causando danni ingenti, soprattutto allo scambiatore di calore gas/acqua della macchina. La valvola antigelo costituisce un sistema meccanico di protezione alternativo all’utilizzo del glicole, che risulta economicamente oneroso e comporta anche problematiche di smaltimento in quanto additivo inquinante. La valvola antigelo iStop rende quindi possibile proteggere la pompa di calore ma anche il pianeta, in quanto protegge l’impianto dalle problematiche causate dalla formazione di ghiaccio, senza ridurre le performance della pompa di calore e senza utilizzare sostanze

potenzialmente dannose per l’ambiente. La valvola antigelo permette lo scarico del fluido del circuito quando la temperatura dello stesso raggiunge un valore medio di 3 °C. Si impedisce così la formazione di ghiaccio nel circuito di un impianto, generalmente a pompa di calore, evitando possibili danni alla macchina e alle tubazioni. La versione con sensore aria permette inoltre il funzionamento dell’impianto in raffrescamento anche con temperature dell’acqua prossime ai 3 °C.

In monobloc and hydrosplit heat pump systems, the hydraulic circuit has an external section that connects the heat pump to the rest of the system. This stretch can be subject to the risk of freezing: this could lead to significant damage, especially to the gas/water heat exchanger of the ma-

chine. The anti-freeze valve constitutes a mechanical protection system alternative to the use of glycol, which is economically expensive and also involves disposal problems as it is a polluting additive. Our iStop antifreeze valve therefore makes it possible to protect heat pumps as well as the planet. It protects the system against the formation of ice without affecting performance or using antifreeze substances that harm the environment. The antifreeze valve allows the circuit medium to be drained when its temperature reaches an average value of 3 °C. This prevents ice forming in the circuit of a system, generally with a heat pump, avoiding potential damage to the machine and to the pipes. Furthermore, the version with the air sensor allows the system to work in cooling mode, even when the water temperature is approaching 3 °C.

If the impurities that circulate in the thermal medium are not removed as necessary, they may cause blockages and seizing of the pumps, lower efficiency of the heat exchangers, unreliable valve operation and insufficient heat exchange. In the specific case of heat pump systems, the use of a magnetic filter dirt separator is recommended.

The Caleffi XF filter separates impurities in the system right from the first passage. Its large filtration surface and impurity separation upstream of the filter also minimises the problem of mesh clogging. System water is treated through an initial impurity separation mesh, using magnets located on the central stem and by passing through an outlet filter. Caleffi XF continuously protects the generator and devices from any impurities that form in the hydraulic circuit, also thanks to the large collection chamber outside the medium passage. Internal cleaning brushes mean that maintenance can be carried out without shutting off the device. It can be installed on both horizontal and vertical pipes.

Centrale di teleriscaldamento

La rete di teleriscaldamento a Borgaro Torinese è alimentata da una centrale ibrida a biomassa/gas naturale e fornisce calore dal 2008; ha ad oggi una capacità connessa complessiva di 21,6 MW con una rete di tubazioni che si estende per 8,3 km. Per la produzione di energia termica operativi: 1 caldaia a biomassa con potenza termica da 3 MW, 2 generatori di calore a gas metano con potenza al focolare da 5,99 MW cadauna, 1 motore endotermico Jenbacher da 3 MW elettrici e 3 MW termici, 1 pompa di calore da 400 kW termici, 1 accumulo termico da 400 mc, 1 accumulo termico da 750 mc.

Nel corso del 2022 sono stati effettuati diversi interventi di revamping e con queste migliorie si è arrivati ad una efficienza termica totale del sistema al 95%.

Inoltre, è stato inserito un nuovo serbatoio di accumulo termico con il contenuto di 750 mc di acqua che permette di accumulare il calore

prodotto dalla centrale e renderlo disponibile al bisogno, consentendo anche di programmare il funzionamento del motore in modo economicamente conveniente sulla base delle tariffe elettriche.

The district heating network in Borgaro Torinese is powered by a hybrid biomass/natural gas power plant and has been supplying heat since 2008; it has a total connected capacity of 21.6 MW to date with a pipeline network extending 8.3 km.

For thermal power generation, the following systems are in operation:

A-THERM80 50.1

La pompa di calore Dethermina A-THERM80 50.1 si propone di rendere la transizione energetica nel riscaldamento veloce, facile, sicura e accessibile. Tale concetto parte dal presupposto che decarbonizzare il riscaldamento significa muovere con il minor dispendio di energia elettrica l’energia termica già disponibile in natura (in aria ad esempio) verso gli ambienti da riscaldare invece di bruciare un combustibile fossile.

A-THERM80 50.1 si propone di raggiungere questo obiettivo in due modi: attraverso la sostenibilità ambientale (si eliminano le emissioni dirette di CO2 equivalente grazie all’utilizzo del propano che ha un GWP=3 e ODP=0) e l’efficienza (la tecnologia utilizzata in A-THERM80 50.1 supera le attuali frontiere tecnologiche di efficienza energetica riducendo quindi le emissioni indirette di CO2).

La pompa di calore A-THERM80 è di tipo modulare reversibile ad alta efficienza a propano (R290) con potenza di 50 kW, che permette la produzione di acqua calda fino a 80 °C. In tal modo per applicazioni residenziali, commerciali e industriali che richiedono potenze in riscaldamento superiori a 50 kW è possibile sostituire completamente sia la caldaia sia i sistemi ibridi per il riscaldamento degli ambienti e la produzione di acqua calda sanitaria.

The Dethermina A-THERM80 50.1 heat pump aims to make energy transition in heating fast, easy, safe and accessible. This concept is based on the assumption that the decarbonization of heating systems means moving the thermal energy already available in nature (in the air, for example) to the rooms to be heated with the least

amount of electricity, instead of burning a fossil fuel.

PTT System

Il sistema collettore-gruppi di distribuzione PTT System (Plastic Tech Thermo) è un sistema iron free per impianti di termoregolazione atto a distribuire il fluido termovettore in un impianto comprendente un circuito primario collegato a una fonte di calore e uno o più circuiti secondari collegati alle rispettive utenze.

La soluzione PTT System elimina drasticamente la formazione di particelle ferrose (ruggine); tale fenomeno causa danneggiamenti agli scambiatori di calore e alle valvole di regolazione, riducendone le prestazioni e quindi l’efficienza energetica.

Con la tecnologia degli impianti di condizionamento ad anello d’acqua WLHP (Water Loop Heat Pump), la pompa di calore (PdC) primaria produrrà acqua ad una temperatura e con una portata compatibile con tubazioni poco o per nulla isolate e con diametri e distribuzioni tipiche dei comuni radiatori (per esempio da 20 a 35 °C sia in inverno che in estate).

I terminali esistenti generalmente ad alta temperatura vengono sostituiti con pompe di calore acqua/aria WLHP estremamente silenziose. La distribuzione (anello d’acqua) sarà mantenuta ad una temperatura neutra da una pompa di calore primaria (primo salto), mentre i nuovi terminali, sempre in PdC, provvederanno alla climatizzazione dell’ambiente in caldo e freddo (secondo salto).

Il sistema di tubazioni dell’impianto esistente potrà essere pienamente

Sensata Resonix RGD sensor is the first leak detection sensor with UL certification for multiple A2L refrigerant gases used in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. It leverages patented gas detection technology to meet the needs of HVAC manufacturers using new hydrofluor-

oolefin (HFO) refrigerants as part of a global shift away from hydro-fluorocarbon (HFC) refrigerants.

HFC gases have a high global warming potential (GWP). While HFOs have a far lower GWP, they are classified as slightly flammable (A2L categorization), and new leak detection design requirements mandate mitigation features to prevent a potential gas buildup.

Sensata’s Resonix RGD sensors feature a patented technology that measures the acoustic resonance of the surrounding air in real-time. Typically mounted near the evaporator coil, the sensors can trigger mitigation, such as a fan, when A2L gas is detected - venting it before it reaches unsafe levels. The RGD series received full certification for R32, R454A, R454B, and R454C refrigerants under UL 60335-2-40 Edition 4, with fully certified test results. The sensor also received recognition under UL 60335-2-40 Edition 3.

AXC-H

La cassa del ventilatore AXC-H è costruita in acciaio zincato a caldo secondo ISO 1461 e la girante è in alluminio pressofuso e bilanciata dinamicamente secondo ISO 21940-11 e ISO 14694, qualità G6.3. Il motore asincrono trifase a singola o doppia velocità con rotore a gabbia di scoiattolo con grado di protezione IP65 (IEC 60034-5) in classe F è sostenuto dalla guide vane integrata nella cassa. Sono presenti flange di collegamento pre-forate tipo Eurovent ½ su entrambe le bocche del ventilatore.

Stratos 4S Heat Storage

Il Sistema Stratos 4S è il sistema solare compatto a circolazione naturale per produrre acqua calda tutto l’anno. Un sistema solare compatto ad alta efficienza con accumulo sanitario integrato, che sfrutta l’efficienza coibente e l’alta capacità di captazione dei tubi sottovuoto. Per la sua capacità di preservare il calore captato è indicato in tutte le zone climatiche e in ogni stagione.

L’aspetto innovativo è rappresentato dal brevetto Heat Storage, una vera e propria batteria termica, che permette di accumulare l’energia termica in eccesso rispetto al prelievo in uno speciale serbatoio di backup, per essere conservata e

utilizzata non appena vi è necessità ma non vi è irraggiamento (notte o mattina presto).

Stratos 4S Heat Storage è dotato di Smart Controller Wi-Fi per gestire, programmare e monitorare, da app, il funzionamento di riscaldatori elettrici di backup impostandone temperatura e fasce orarie di funzionamento aumentandone l’efficienza e limitando gli sprechi.

Neutralità tecnologica, la chiave per affrontare la transizione

LLa transizione energetica, che poi è anche una transizione ambientale, tecnologica, sociale, oltre che economica, è una vera rivoluzione. In particolare in un paese come l’Italia, tra le nazioni europee con la maggiore dipendenza energetica.

Gli obiettivi dell’UE sono ambiziosi: la completa decarbonizzazione al 2050. È questo ciò che stabilisce il Green New Deal, che la

stessa presidente della Commissione europea Ursula Von del Leyen, nel 2019, definì come l’equivalente per l’Ue dello sbarco dell’uomo sulla Luna. Ma se è affascinante immaginare questo obiettivo, che porrà l’UE come il “primo blocco climaticamente neutro”, il percorso per raggiungerlo non è semplice: un percorso fatto di nuove tecnologie, di grandi inve-

stimenti, ma anche e soprattutto di scelte politiche lungimiranti in grado di considerare con grande attenzione il quadro socio-economico di ogni paese membro.

E quando si passa dalla teoria ai fatti concreti, ci si accorge che la distanza tra chi definisce le politiche a livello alto e chi poi le mette “a terra”, ossia l’intera filiera del mercato (ricerca, progettazione, produzione, installazione e gestione) è abissale. Ed è questo il nodo da sciogliere: riusciremo davvero a raggiungere gli obiettivi che ci sono stati imposti? E se sì, come?

UNA RIVOLUZIONE GIÀ INIZIATA

Per fortuna non partiamo proprio da zero e la rivoluzione che prima abbiamo citato nella realtà è iniziata da più di venti anni, quando nel 2002 fu approvata la prima Direttiva EPBD. Un lasso di tempo durante il quale ci sono stati parecchi cambiamenti: nuove tecnologie, miglioramenti delle prestazioni energetiche degli edifici e degli impianti, fino ad arrivare a edifici ad energia quasi zero (NZEB). Per raggiungere l’obiettivo al 2050 dobbiamo fare due cose: pensare alla riqualificazione del patrimonio edilizio esistente ed accelerare.

Nella transizione energetica gli impianti hanno un ruolo fondamentale: gli investimenti rapportati ai vantaggi sono più contenuti, garantiscono una maggiore flessibilità e una maggiore compatibilità con il patrimonio immobiliare esistente; e l’Italia, di questa compatibilità, ne ha davvero bisogno.

La Direttiva “Case Green”, che poi è la EPBD4, aveva suscitato non poche preoccupazioni da parte di alcune nazioni, tra le quali l’Italia stessa.

Preoccupazioni a mio parere più che motivate, visto che l’applicazione delle azioni richieste, con il completo abbandono delle tecnologie a combustione in pochi, pochissimi anni per essere sostituite da quelle elettriche (pompe di calore), anche se supportate da impianti fotovoltaici avrebbe comportato diversi problemi.

Dopo mesi di discussione in ambito UE, per fortuna ha prevalso il buon senso e, senza tradire per questo gli obiettivi del Green New Deal, la Commissione ITRE (Industria,

Technological neutrality, the key to facing the transition

The integration of multiple technologies should lead Europe towards the ambitious “Net Zero” target by 2050. This is the term established by the European Parliament, which has thus outlined a more realistic and coherent framework for energy transition.

The energy transition, which is also an environmental, technological, social, as well as economic transition, is a real revolution. Particularly in Italy, one of the European countries with the greatest energy dependence.

The EU’s goals are ambitious: complete decarbonisation by 2050. This is what the Green New Deal establishes, which European Commission President, Ursula Von del Leyen, herself defined in 2019 as the equivalent for the EU of the landing of man on the Moon.

Though fascinating to imagine, this goal - which would place the EU as the “first climate-neutral bloc” - will not be easy to achieve as it implies a path made up of new technologies, large investments, but also and above all of far-sighted political decisions paying great attention to the socio-economic background of each member country. And when we move from theory to hard facts, we realize that the distance between those who define policies at a high level and those who then have to implement them, i.e. the entire market chain (research, design, production, installation and management) is abysmal. Then the question is whether we will really be able to achieve the goals that have been set on us? And if so, how?

THE REVOLUTION HAS ALREADY BEGUN

Fortunately, we are not starting from scratch and the revolution we mentioned earlier actually began

Il phase-out dei combustibili fossili dei sistemi di riscaldamento è stato spostato al 2040, lasciando quindi più tempo per la ricerca di vettori rinnovabili come biometano o idrogeno verde, oltre a syngas e bio-GPL. In questo nuovo scenario troveranno ovviamente spazio anche le tecnologie ibride (pompe di calore con caldaie a condensazione omologate con miscele di green gas) e le pompe di calore a gas.

Le pompe di calore manterranno ovviamente un ruolo importante, così come sarà strate-

gico continuare a investire sulle rinnovabili che hanno dimostrato efficacia ed efficienza con costi economici che diventano sempre più interessanti.

Ma questa apertura ad altre tecnologie non elettriche che ben si adattano al recupero energetico del patrimonio edilizio esistente è una scelta che fa bene perché, oltre a stimolare molte aziende del settore, contribuisce a incrementare la “potenza di fuoco” della rivoluzione che stiamo vivendo. Sarebbe scorretto quindi parlare di sostituzione ma, semmai, di integrazione funzionale e strategica con il mondo elettrico.

more than twenty years ago, when the first EPBD Directive was approved in 2002. A period of time during which there have been many changes: new technologies, improvements in the energy performance of buildings and systems, up to nearly zero-energy buildings (NZEBs).

To achieve the 2050 target, we need to do two things: think about the update of the existing building stock and accelerate. Systems play a key role in the energy transition: investments are small in relation to the benefits, and guarantee greater flexibility and greater compatibility with the existing building stock: Italy really needs this compatibility.

The “Green Homes” Directive, which is the EPBD4, had raised quite a few concerns from some EU countries, including Italy itself. In my opinion, these concerns are more than justified, given that the implementation of the required actions, with the complete abandonment of fuel-based technologies in a few, very few years to be replaced by electric ones (heat pumps), also supported by photovoltaic systems, might create many problems.

After months of discussion within the EU, common sense fortunately prevailed and, without betraying the objectives of the Green

New Deal, the ITRE (Industry, Research and Crafts) Committee of the European Parliament has drawn up and approved a more coherent transition framework where there is no longer a single technology but several technologies can coexist. The phase-out of fossil fuels in heating systems has been moved to 2040, thus leaving more time for research into renewable carriers such as bio-methane or green hydrogen, as well as syngas and bio-LPG. In this new scenario, hybrid technologies (heat pumps with condensing boilers approved for green gas blends) and gas-powered heat pumps will also find a space.

Heat pumps will obviously continue to play an important role, just as it will be strategic to continue to invest in renewables that have proven effective and efficient and whose economic costs are becoming increasingly attractive. This openness to other non-electric technologies that are well suited to energy recovery also in the existing building stock is a good choice because, in addition to stimulating many market operators, it helps increase the “power” of the revolution we are experiencing. It would therefore be incorrect to speak of replacement but, if anything, of functional and strategic integration with the electrical world.
