Tomorrow’s mobile communication will require innovative transmission systems Transmission rates in mobile communications will need to impr ove dramatically in order to cope with increased mobile use of data services such as the internet. This is particularly challenging for communications technology and computer science due to the limited frequency spectrum available. At the same time, accessibility will need to increase significantly if the new services ar e to become popular. This is why UMIC scientists are working on mobile information and communications systems to meet future needs. The main pillars of the cluster’s research are new mobile applications and services, mobile networks and connections as well as highfrequency assemblies and highly-integrated systems. The new UMIC Resear ch Center opened in March 2009 with a visitors’ day. The building is home to new UMIC-funded professorships as well as laboratories for demonstrators and for researching new kinds of system components.
