Student Companies
Dance Connections, Inc. student companies are under the direction of Jennifer Aversa, Rebecca Dunphy, and Carly Faye and are comprised of students ages 8-18.
We are a non-competitive, service based group that offers the benefits and experiences of a dance company without the competition side of dance. In a world where everything is becoming highly competitive, we offer an alternative. DC is where dancers can shine as well as work together, encourage others, grow at their own individual pace, and experience dance as an art form while learning concert style dance. Our compass is excellence, kindness/empathy, service, and joy. In addition to having the amazing opportunity to dance with the Columbia Orchestra for their two Young Artists Concerts, DC companies dance at senior centers, nursing homes, school festivals, carnivals, sporting events, theme parks, and host their own benefit concerts. Our goal is to cultivate the joy and love of dance in both our dancers and our audience members and to make dance accessible to everyone. While we love to dance in a theater, we can also enjoy and share dance in a gymnasium, on a basketball court, on a playground, on a school blacktop, in a nursing home dining room and in a church hall. Dance can be enjoyed anywhere and at anytime. If dancers are doing something that they love to do and also helping others at the same time, it’s a big win!!
Dance Connections, Inc. holds two fundraising concerts per year and has raised over $50,000 for worthy organizations including The Casey Cares Foundation, Called to Care for for Orphans, BeMoreCaring, Love You More Heart Home in Beijing, China, Cornerstone Community Housing, and People Who Need People. This year we are raising funds for Justin In Power Kids for our May 18th concert at Chesapeake Arts and collecting canned/dry goods donations for Catonsville Emergency Assistance at our March 22nd concert in Catonsville.
Dancers are also involved throughout the year in other service based projects including holiday donations at Christmas time, supporting The Giving Machine at the Columbia Mall, as well as making lunches and participating in the Chocolate Heart Challenge for the organization People Who Need People.
We believe that dance is a beautiful art form that can be used not only to express ourselves, but also for service to our community. Dance can bring joy and happiness to everyone and help make the world a better place.
