The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at USF was formed in 1980. It was one of the first departments to include both computer science and computer engineering. We are the youngest department in the College, but we have also established ourselves as a quality program. Our faculty includes NSF CAREER Award winners (two in 2012), Fellows of the IEEE (one in 2012) and ACM, IAPR and AAAS, as well as Distinguished Scholars and outstanding teaching award winners. Our faculty takes pride in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. We have some great labs with state of the art equipment in our areas of expertise which serve as a great place for students and faculty to develop what’s next. We are a diverse faculty who are highly active in our individual research areas, but also collaborate across areas within and outside of the department. The individual faculty members take the time to have regular meetings with graduate students. Graduate students are supported via teaching and research assistantships. Our research is, and has been, funded by a variety of federal agencies such as the National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, Department of Energy, private companies, and more. Our program is continuing its pursuit of excellence through highquality scholarly publishing, theoretical and applied research, and the education of outstanding students. It is our intention to attract the best and brightest to our program, and help them to succeed. Our students have gone on to successful careers in academia at such places as Penn State University, Clemson, University of Notre Dame, University of Delaware and more. They have also found great places in industry such as Intel, Fair Isaac, Microsoft, NASA, and more. Sincerely, Larry Hall Distinguished University Professor and Chair
