Odyssey: Part 1 “Thrinacia” In this episode Odysseus and his men stop at the island of Thrinacia and of the cattle of the sun god, Helios. Odysseus wants to avoid it completely but Eurylochus convinces him to go ashore. A storm comes and they are stranded for a month. When the boat’s provisions run out the men get desperate and kill and eat the cattle despite Circe’s warning. Helios is enraged and asks Zeus to punish them. When they leave a storm brewed up by Zeus destroys their ship and kills everyone except Odysseus. “I’m not listening” is a quote that very easily applies to this event. Despite Circe’s warning the men still go to the Island and eat the cattle. “I walk my own path, I blaze my own trail” I feel this is what the crew and Eurylochus were trying to do. They were trying to make their own path and not do what they thought was wrong. It was the wrong choice though. This song relates very well because it is all about not listening, which is exactly what the crew did. Circe warned them and Odysseus did also. Yet they still ate the cattle and paid dearly for it.
