About the project
Ordering food online saw a significant hike during the pandemic as people could eat from their favourite restaurants while being safe and in the comfort of their houses. Major food delivery apps started rolling out different deals for restaurants and so much more. Many people compare food and delivery prices by switching back and forth between apps to find themselves the best deals.

Synkrino One-stop-shop for food delivery
Self-initiated UX research 2022
Aim of the project
The name Synkrino is a Greek word which means “to compare”. The goal is to compare different food delivery applications and for users to pick the most suitable deal for themselves. It is a space where users can view, browse, and compare all discounts available on different platforms for the meal they want and place an order through this app.
Users waste their time trying to find the best deals - more discounts or less delivery time. They have to add the same order from the same restaurant in different apps to find the best offers.
Design Methodology
Empathize Conducting user research to understand the problem
Gathering insights and defining personas and their pain points

Secondary Research
During the pandemic, restaurants witnessed that there was still a healthy demand for ordering food to eat at home. Meal delivery services saw massive growth as restaurants turned to platforms of online delivery services to keep serving customers. One study published by the Columbia Business School found that the pandemic alone was responsible for 70% of the industry’s growth from 2019 to 2020. The rise of this industry has led to a number of competitors in the market and has made numerous options available for users. I studied food delivery apps like Zomato, Swiggy and Deliveroo and apps that compare these apps like FoodBoss and FastyGet.
Zomato, Swiggy, Deliveroo:
• They have a clean UI design which is user friendly.
• Food options categorized and filtered based on different parameters like dietary requirements, cuisines, nearest to the location, fastest delivery and maximum discounts.
• A custom section for the user which highlights food they may enjoy and also lists the previously ordered items.
• Latest deals and new restaurants are flashed on the homepage
• An easy checkout page - summary, taxes, delivery fee, coupon code, percentage of discount applied etc
• A delivery driver tip tab before the final checkout
• Tracking of order visible once payment is done
FastyGet, FoodBoss
• Too much information on one page
• Flashy deals and offers making it difficult for the user to navigate
• Categorizes and filtered based on different food delivery apps along with options seen in normal delivery apps
• Restaurant name along with distance rating, app (eg. Zomato), delivery time - all in one card - too much information
• No user-specific suggestions
8
Primary Research (Google Survey)
I conducted an online survey through Google Forms. This was done to identify pain points of the users and gather insights, and eventually frame the Problem Statement.
The type users are almost equally divided - working, students and stay-athome.
Majority of them prefer to order in instead of dine out.
Majority them order in 3 to 6 meals a week.
The people who have a membership for a delivery app is slightly higher than the ones who do not.
Insights
Almost all users have at least once compared the same meal from the same restaurant on two different apps.
• Most of the people prefer to order food instead of going out to restaurants.
• The user range is most common among young working professionals.
• Most of the people at least order a meal once a week.
Pain points
Almost all users would like to have an app to compare prices and avail the best deals.
• Majority of the users waste time in switching between apps to check for best deals.
• People who buy memberships deprive themselves of offers available on other platforms.
• People would like to have a platform where they can compare deals easily.

User Persona
Ashvini Patil
Age: 23
Occupation: Architect City: Pune
Ashvini recently graduated and is working at a firm away from her hometown. As a result, she lives away from her family and has to cook for herself. Since work life is new to her, she finds it challenging to find the time to cook all three meals every day. Hence, she heavily relies on ordering food at home. She also has a membership which restricts her from exploring other apps.
“I select my orders based on the best deals and offers available to save money.”
Goals and needs:
• A place to compare prices from different delivery apps to see offers on a wider range of options.
• Wishes to order from places with least delivery time.
Design Opportunities
Frustrations:
• In order to save money, she does not eat what she wants to but instead settles for food with offers which are on the app.
• Wastes time switching back and forth between apps.
Browsing, comparing and buying on the same platform.
A wide range of filtering options to let users find exactly what they want.
Homepage consisting of latest and major deals catering to the specifc user type based on their previous orders.
An option to just search the name of the restaurant, add the order as a normal delivery app, and comapre between delivery apps before the checkout page.

Background Colours
It is said that red is very energetic and stimulates many senses, which directly leads to one’s appetite. This is why many fast-food chains include red in their signage and decor. Many restaurants also include yellow in their decor, which is known to increase appetite. I chose this shade of red as I found it to be directly linked to many popular foods consumed in India.

Women Empowerment Center, Kerala, India
Women empowerment center is a project located in Munnar, a small town in Kerala which facilitates as an educational and carrier development hub for all women. A hostel block is also included to allow women from nearby towns also to stay and focus on education. A daycare center, medical center, library, teaching halls, dining room, and kitchen are provided. Beautiful hills and views surround the site, and it also has a playground on the east side, which would be a potential source of noise and disturbance. Hence, the building is designed in a C-shape, where the walls and trees create a buffer and block the sound and the courtyard, created at the middle, is an interactive space. The building material is exposed brickwork as it is easily available, does not require extreme professional skills, and gives a feeling of warmth.

The final massing of the structure was designed to block noise from the nearby ground and allow the natural breeze generated near the water body to enter the site into the courtyard.

Eco - Resort, Maharashtra, India
My final year thesis includes designing an environment-friendly and sustainable luxury resort at the hill station Mulshi. The primary goal of this project is to encourage tourists to travel sustainably and improve the resort’s efficiency, including conserving energy and resources and utilizing free renewable resources. Most users would join for a weekend getaway from Pune, a metropolitan city less than an hour’s drive away. The smart-city plan presented by the government includes the promotion of eco-tourism in areas near Pune, and Mulshi being one of the proposed areas, led me to choose a site there. This 46,000sqm eco-resort is built with eco-friendly and locally sourced materials and has passive design strategies integrated into the design to reduce energy consumption and minimize carbon footprint. Moreover, the entire existing flora was left undisturbed, and the planning was done around it. Also, the proposal for the entire resort to go off-grid has been initiated by introducing a dedicated space for solar panels.

The Chai Point
Food kiosk
This project aims at the riverfront development of the Godavari River. We had to design a temporary structure that could be dismantled easily and is made of locally sourced materials, hence, sustainable. I chose to design a kiosk that could be placed in two optional locations as the extended seating area would be optional. Option A is detailed in this project, which includes an extended deck for outdoor seating, and option B would be a space with just the kitchen area and a space to stand and eat. The main material palette used is centered around wood derivatives and concrete blocks.

The renovation of this kindergarten included many site visits, a first-hand experience on a project being built, and interactions with laborers and contractors. These weekly visits made me realize how important interactions with laborers are. Moreover, a tedious back and forth with clients regarding the layout of classrooms resulted in an intense rework of elevations and corrections in plans which were all done by me. This project also gave me an insight into how a designer needs to remain calm if certain mistakes are made on-site and how to explain them to laborers.

The pandemic has made us realize that the most important spaces required to sustain ourselves are linked to physical and mental well-being. Physically, one can exist by having access to spaces to eat, sleep and freshen up, but to live a healthy life, humans need the presence of nature and the outdoors to keep themselves mentally healthy. Maintaining a link to green spaces can positively affect our mental health. This illustration is a graphical representation of these four essential spaces an individual may need to sustain a stable lifestyle.
