1993 : The Student Union Years Six months later, The UEA Students’ Union in league with The City Council, established a less ambitious but more financially sustainable programme in the Venue. Offering a minimum 2 live shows and 2 alternative club nights per week and the promise that local bands would be offered opportunities where possible. Our Club Nights : As all the other venues in the city were playing pop or chart music, had strict dress codes (no jeans, no trainers, no t shirts) and were quite expensive. The Waterfront deliberately chose the alternative route, we welcomed, ‘students’, punks, hippies, long hair, jeans, goths, metalheads, fluffy leggings, mods, rockers, ravers …. Our dress code ‘as long as you cover your bits’ and don’t disrespect others, come in.
