1986 31 Jan Marillion £6.50 01 Feb John Martyn £4 07 Feb Jesus and the Mary Chain £4 Another eventful show but not for its music. After the support finished and in anticipation of the main act, the houselights went off, the crowd pushed forward…. then nothing for 20 minutes, the crowd grumbled, eventually the band emerged in the darkness, a customer threw a plastic cup, it bounced across the stage, the band turned and walked off. A huge row broke out backstage as the tour manager said they wouldn’t play in front of such an audience, quick thinking Nick Rayns, secretly told one of our crew to go into the mosh pit and make a fuss, when security come. While Nick returned to argue with the Tour Manager near the stage, a big rumpus broke out on the dancefloor and 4 doortaff dragged a kicking and screaming ‘ customer’ out of the door. Satisfied the problem was gone, the band went back on stage. They played with their backs to the audience for their full set, after about 18 minutes they walked off again. Rushing to the Tour Manager to find out what was wrong now, he said ‘ No problem that’s their show’….. and it included an encore! 19 Feb Pallas + Underground Zero £2.75 25 Feb Steel Pulse £4 27 Feb Sigue Sigue Sputnik + Black Elvis 2000 £4 A fantasy punk rock band with Tony James (ex Generation X) and Martin Degville (fashion designer). Their single Love Missile was no.3 in the charts this week. The next day Tabloid newspapers reported crowd riots at this debut show, a real shock to all the fans and staff who were there, we seemed to have missed that bit. 05 Mar 11 Mar 12 Mar 14 Mar 19 Mar 21 Mar 14 Apr 27 Apr

But it was also the first time we used a stage crash barrier for a gig, the US tour manager insisted it was strapped to the stage ( it’s supposed to be free standing). The band went on, with the first excited crowd surge the stage sections pulled apart, leaving gaps all over for the band to avoid for the rest of the show.
