Name: Karen Mørkholt
Position: VP of People
Team: People
Location: South, East, West? Home is best?
Email: karen@issuu com
Background
Hello everybody, my name is Karen and I’m 41 Apparently that puts me into my own special category some places:
“Karen is a pejorative term used as slang for a middle-class white woman who is perceived as entitled or demanding beyond the scope of what is normal”
Source: Karen (slang) - Wikipedia
So I’m glad my name is pronounced “Kahn” in Danish so I’m not totally in that category….at least not yet
Originally I got a degree in law from University of Copenhagen, passed the bar exam, and spent 2 years as an attorney only to find out that I’d rather work with people in a different way Then I moved into HR.
My latest role, though, has been as the CEO of a midsize accountant company, Revision Limfjord, in west Denmark, however with a very clear HR focus
Why Issuu?
I was actually a full time employee at Issuu from January 2013 - February 2016 where I went on maternity leave and moved to Klitmøller on the West coast of Denmark with my husband and son. More on that later.
I stayed on as a contractor and always felt like I had some unfinished business with Issuu
Rolf and I kept in contact and the company I worked for, Revision Limfjord, was acquired by a larger accountant company, Beierholm Suddenly the timing seemed right, as I decided that I wasn't going to take on a new role at Beierholm.
I’ll be working remote from the west coast & at Issuu’s different office locations with full presence and attention.
My role at Issuu will be somewhat similar to my latest role: Working with the management team and all of you to ensure HR change processes, HR strategy and culture amongst others These are the challenges I find most interesting!

Me, myself & I
What can we expect from you?
Are you always on time? No, but I’m really doing my best to become a better person every day, including being on time I have really improved over the years.
Some of the words I would use to describe myself are:
● Reliable
● Adaptable
● Persistent
● Good listener
Are you extremely structured? Absolutely not!
Are your technical skills amazing? Nope!
Are you a funny person? Only I think so.
Do you have a keen eye for design? Also a “no”. Wish this template asked “yes” questions as well!
However, I am very people oriented and really enjoy collaborating. I thrive by getting people to work in the same direction and seeing the bigger picture.
I deeply care about every person's well-being and at the same time have the company as a whole at my top priority. I do believe & have experienced those can go hand in hand.
● Inquisitive
● Imaginative
● Friendly
● Logical
● Diplomatic
● Reflective
● Positive
● Investigative
● Independent
● Objective
● Open minded to feedback
The adjective on a “bad day” I’ll leave for me to know and you to find out

Favorite music and why?
On my playlist you will find anything from Queen to Carla Bruni, Kim Larsen (former Danish folk-ish artist) to Snoop dog, H E R to Roy Orbinson, Ludovico Einaudi to Red Hot Chili Peppers, reggaeton to various french and spanish artist that I don’t even know the name of
For me music is very much a “mood thing” It can either get you into or out of a certain mood and at the same time it can add so much to a mood that you are already in and want to stay in
It can carry you through time (e g in the car) and bring positive vibes to your everyday life.
However, I do also like silence.

PETS!
YES! Growing up as the daughter of a veterinarian dogs are a MUST! And we used to have 3 mid-sized (30 kg) dogs now just one, which is definitely easier and less hairy! Oh, and a pet owl!
As a true pet owner I have a ton of pictures of the small creatures, including our dog, Ulf❤

What are your hobbies?
None of these pictures are of me… but they are some of my hobbies.
I don’t bike or surf that often but I really enjoy it when I actually go.
When I started to learn how to surf I honestly shouldn’t have started on a small board because it’s really difficult. Now I have a longboard 9’2” and it’s such a joy being out in the ocean. Every session is a good session even if I only catch a couple of waves.
Enjoying the sunset, as you see on the front page of this publication (it’s the sunset view from my balcony) is a recurring family hobby
These are some of the pleasures we got from moving from Copenhagen to the (wild) West and we really enjoy living here with such great nature this close by
The wind can be really crazy around these parts of Denmark and this can create big waves, hence the area where we live is also known as “Cold Hawaii”.....
The wind however, doesn’t always make you feel like going outside. Luckily there are plenty of indoor sports not that far from where we live and then there is Netflix
My husband is a killer chef and in the winter we spend more time preparing and eating a good “winter’s meal”.
We also really enjoy skiing but that 1 week every February hardly counts as a hobby
