OURSTORY While general collegiate solar racing events began as early as 1985, the RutgersSolarCarTeamhasbenefittedfromgrowingtrendsinsustainablevehicle technology.Thepresentteamwascharteredin2016andparticipatedinitsfirst competitionin2019attheFormulaSunGrandPrix.In2022,theteammovedinto the Bruce and Phyllis Nicholas Student Project Studio, Rutgers’ first net-zero buildingonBuschCampus.RUSolarseekstocapitalizeonitsgrowththroughthe Formula Sun Grand Prix and the American Solar Challenge, a cross country multi-dayroadracein2024.
2024 Afterdesigning,simulating,building,andtestingourfirstsolarcar,wewillcompetein nationalcompetitions,promotingsolarpowerandrepresentingNewJerseyona nationalstage.
RACES FormulaSunGrandPrix Opentoteamsaroundtheworld, thisannual3day,track-stylerace heldona2.5mileracetrackin Topeka,Kansaswillpushthe handling,braking,andacceleration ofourcartothelimit.
Thisinternational1500-2000mile crosscountryraceacrossthe UnitedStatesteststheendurance andreliabilityofoursolarvehicle. Thejourneywillincluderuraland urbanroadsthroughouttheHeart ofAmerica.
