Hello, I’m Rushat Pradhan and this is my portfolio.

By means of introduction, I’m a 21-year old architecture student studying in Kathmandu Engineering College seeking to lean and expand my references in the architectural and design field. I’m passionate about the architectural values and the professional practice that it involves.

I have a strong interest in design development, construction documentation, detailing solutions, graphics and model making. I’m a fast learner always seeking the best solution for the project.

I’m glad to share with you my works.

Solo Project

Urban Entertainment Hub is the most recent project in our academic studies. Site of 8600 sq.m. was provided for the development of area, designed to facilitate entertainment and commercial activities. Process-oriented method of designing was applied in the project. Reference from various case studies and literature aided in the design process of the project.

During this project I learned to manage the mass movement within the exterior and interior of the building. I also learned about placement and positioning of various types of retail and rental spaces in the most economical way possible.

Concept: Modern Mela

Urban Entertainment Hub as a place with mass movement, commercial activities and recreational activities. Historically, such structures are found in the form of temporary structures: Mela and Mahotsav. Modernization of concept of mela to derive my own concept. Plan derived from the mass movement principle. Tent like tensile fabric structure utilized for the roof.

Phase I: Central point was derived from major site axes which was used as main plaza for mass gathering.

Phase II: Horse-shoe shape developed from offsetting the site for better natural light penetration.

Phase III: Separation of passage for wind flow. Development of outer plaza for seating space and segregation of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Phase IV: Hierarchy maintained in the building by mass and void.

Residence Design

IInd year Ist part

Solo Project

Residence design was one of the first major project of ours. A site of 590 sq.m. was provided to design a residence for a family of four. We learned about the importance of proper planning and proximity. It was this project in which we first learned about program formulation and its implication.

Later on, we learned about municipal drawings using this project as our reference.

Concept

Concept is taken from the hobbies of the owner. The owner is extroverted and loves going on hiking and trekking. The elevation of the house shows the angled roofs derived from the slopes of mountain tops. The plan is derived from the footsteps of a hiking trail.

Phase I: The footprint was taken as a form to develop into the plan.

Phase II: The general shape of the footprint was transformed as rectangles to provide functionality to the shape.

Phase III: The two derived rectangles were then connected to create a entrance and foyer space in the house.

The bi-directional slanting roof was derived from the slopes of the mountain ranges.

Group Project with Anuskha Shrestha, Anuska Kayastha, Reeya Pradhan, Ritesh Tandukar and Zina Bajracharya

Residential Campus design was our first group project. Along with being a live project, it was also our first contour project. We learned about the contour maps and increased our knowledge about cut and fill in the site.

I was involved in overall planning and zoning of the site. I also contributed in internal planning of the student and teacher quarters and multipurpose area and the auditorium. As it was a group project, we also learned to work as a team , which in my opinion was this project’s major positive aspect.

Concept

Phase I: Given site was analyzed and definite nodes at the boundary were marked.

Phase II: The predefined nodes were connected.

Phase III: Different zones were separated along the axes produced.

Phase IV: Certain portions were used for built spaces while others are used as open interactive areas.

Phase V: The nodes formed on the junction spaces were marked as disperse zones.

Phase VI: The site was divided into public, semi public, semi private and private zones which are indicated with the given colors.
