SONORAN SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE

The Sonoran School of architecture is a project that is designed to relocate Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin School of Architecture to the Sonoran Desert in Arizona. The drawing room for school is the first part of the development of a campus plan in a year long studio.

HUMAN ARBORETUM

The Human Arboretum is a continuation of the Sonoran School of Architecture project, with the main focus being on the dormitories for the school students. The project continues in the Sonoran desert of Arizona and explores the use of analog cooling and shading systems, and combinations of public and private spaces.

ASCENT

The Ascent Dance Hall is a performance center in a fieldhouse style with programs that include a library and a senior community center. The building acts as a beacon and symbol for people of different ages to congregate and enjoy art as well as community. The project provides them with greenspaces, gathering spaces as well as an auditorium for performers.

LATHROP HOMES

The Lathrop Homes is a public housing complex in the north side of Chicago that sits between Bucktown and Roscoe Village. It was listed on the National Register February 21, 2012 as a historical landmark. The apartments were revived with HED’s adaptive reuse effort to retain the Prairie School, Arts and Crafts style while highlighting the landscaping of Jens Jensen. Lathrop homes and Lincoln Park carry the title of "the city's most diverse public housing neighborhood". I assisted the project with plans, detailed elevations, and construction drawings for phase C of the project

ADVOCATE GOOD SAMARITAN HOSPITAL

AGSH is a floor renovation project in which HED’s intervention redefines the design of the hospital’s natal ward. The project included a schematic design charette aimed at reimagining the patient experience, while optimizing the workflow for doctors and nurses I contributed to the reorganization of the program, assisted in the development of schematic design plans and structural modeling, and supported the creation of diagrammatic plans for client presentations.

SUSTAINABILITY DIAGRAMMING AND ARCHITECTURAL DETAIL STANDARDIZATION

One of HED’s ongoing initiatives is to uphold sustainability standards across its projects. I supported project teams in creating sustainability diagrams that highlighted key features of each project. These diagrams played a crucial role in establishing graphic standards for the company’s website and future projects. I also assisted the housing sector of the firm with standardizing their housing details for projects. I assisted in the creation of a detail booklet that designers could include details from in their drawing sets.

school of architecture is a part of Frank Lloyd Wright’s legacy that hosts the travelling architecture porgram that splits its time between Wisconsin and Scottsdale.

year long studio was to design the masterplan for the school with the focus of the first semester being on the drawing studio. The studio included two spaces for student use- studio space and a maker space. The two are connected by a walkway that allows students to experience the structure of the building with a unique perspective. The design focuses on the use of the Sonoran desert and its arroyos as passive cooling systems for the building while encouraging the students to spend time outdoors.

Talisen West is an architecture school that moves its roots by the season.

between Wisconsin (summer) and Arizona (winter) every year. But the school was looking to root itself in Arizona. Our task was to plant these roots in the form of dorms that supplemented the design studio we built the semester before.

of forms began with reassigning meaning to void and suspension in a studio exercise. What is the benefit of changing materaisl into what we need them to be? How do we make Arizona just as comfortable as Wisconsin in summers?

These concept models document our initial studies in form. Ultimately, we strived to create a series of individual units which primarily had amenity and communal space on the ground floor, and living on the second. To make this transition hospitable, we explored various ways we could cover our users from the harsh environment of the desert.

Microclimate and Unit Arrangement

Diagrammatic studies of how our programs were arranged and the passive strategies of our dorm units. These ideas work to create a hospitable outdoor microclimate in which people can comfortably inhabit.

Ascent is a dance hall, practice space and the reading room for the North Broadway neighbourhood of Chicago.

The building acts as a beacon for the people of the neighbourhood and serves as a community hub for the young demographic of the neighbourhoood. The terraced massing of the building plays to bring in more light into the reading rooms while creating a dynamic space in the deance studios.

The open terrace mirrors the community garden across the street, reflecting the spirit of the community.
