Narok Tourism Department begins black rhino photographic survey in Maasai Mara
in Maasai Mara National Reserve. The survey, officially flagged off by Chief Park Warden Stephen Minis recently will be undertaken by a team of experienced rhino monitors drawn from renowned rhino sanctuaries over a period of 14 days.
The team comprises of Maasai Mara National Reserve Rhino Unit Rangers, KWS Rangers, staff from Ol-Pejeta Conservancy, Lewa Conservancy, Ol Jogi Conservancy, and Borana Conservancy, with technical support from research scientists from WRTI and GIS.

The objective of the survey is to determine the rhino population in the Mara, update the master ID files for the rhinos, identify suitable rhinos for ear notching, and identify the range area for the rhinos.
The survey is funded by the County Government of Narok, WWF-Kenya, and the Mara Conservancy
