County deploys digital system in Sh1.5 Billion land rates revenue target

The County Government of Kajiado has launched a land data collection system to shore up revenue from the land resource.

The system is set to collect and consolidate information on all ratable property which will then be used to bill owners.
The collaboration between the Lands Department and the Finance Department is targeting to collect uncollected revenue related to land in the County.

3.5 ed the Digital Centre at the Department of Lands to inspect how the new system is working.
“We have land as our greatest resource yet we haven't been getting enough revenue from it. The new system will first target Sh1.5 Billion from land alone and at its optimum, it can double this in the near future," said Governor Lenku.
At the Digital Centre, more than 20 ICT gurus have already been deployed.

Officer Sankaire Tima said the team is composed of experts in land matters such as surveyors, planners and ICT and will soon be increased to 70.
Finance, Economic Planning and ICT CEC Member Michael Semera said the new synergy between the Department of Lands and the Department of Finance will bear fruits in revenue collection.
The new revenue targets are meant to partially finance the implementation of the 2022- 2023 budget whose Sh9.6 Billion estimates are currently undergoing public participation.
