His Kubota keeps rolling along! A NORSEWOOD farmer whose used Kubota tractor (bought 17 years ago with five years service to its account) refuses to lie down, has relented and bought a new one. Andrew Young is “pretty confident it’s got at least another 10 years in it,” says Kubota marketer CB Norwood Distributors. Young still feeds out

FREE TRACTOR and quad safety workshops for dairy women are being held in the Waikato region. Tractors are involved in nearly 20% of fatal farm accidents, and nearly every farm death in 2012 involved a farming vehicle. The Dairy Women’s Network and farm equipment dealer AGrowQuip are bringing John Deere representatives together to deliver free tractor and quad safety workshops in Waikato. DWN executive chair Michelle Wilson says nobody thinks they are going to have an accident, especially when you have worked with these machines your entire life. “Dairy farming women who have recently started working on farm vehicles, or would like to and want to learn some safety basics, will find this training day a great investment of time – using their learning a lot, including sharing it with family and the farm team,” says Wilson. AGrowQuip chief operating officer Alan Cottington says the company’s connection with John Deere, known worldwide for product safety, has secured product specialist Sarah Ross from Brisbane, and New Zealand territory managers Mark Hamilton-Manns and Ben Suffield to run the workshops. Also leading will be people from HazardCo, Lower Emissions and AGrowQuip. Cottington says for two years AGrowQuip has seen a sales pattern shift away from quads to safer all-terrain vehicles like the John Deere Gator. “We’ve noticed that the larger corporate farm operations are much more safety conscious in their purchasing decisions and are moving away from quads and ATVs,” says Cottington. All workshops run from 10am to 2pm and are free to women who work in dairying and include a barbeque lunch. Tel. 0800 396 748 www.dwn.co.nz
