Editor’s Note Greetings! As editor, I am pleased to present to you the 2019 Rural Leader Forty under Forty Honorees. The judges, once more, had the difficult task to select forty outstanding leaders from Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. The leaders represent the rich talent, skill, and vast knowledge that can be found in small town America. I am extremely impressed with the level of expertise and accomplishment found among this year's honorees. Their exemplary service to the people in small communities is a testament to their dedication. Without such leaders, who pour daily back into the essence of communities abroad, Small Town America would undoubtedly cease to thrive. Therefore, I continue to be committed to acknowledging the efforts and contributions of leaders in small rural communities. I understand all too well the significance of their efforts. Dr. Ansley Booker Ansley Booker, Ph.D. is a native of Eatonton, Georgia. She attended Georgia Southern University and earned a BA in biology. In 2007, she was selected for the Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate Achievement Program at GSU. Ansley later earned a Master’s degree from the University of Georgia in science with certificates in Clinical Trials and Regulatory Affairs. Recently, she successfully defended her dissertation at Mercer University in Higher Education Leadership program. Her dissertation focused on African American women who have obtained STEM graduate/doctoral degrees in computer science, engineering and physical science. Her goal was to unearth barriers and catalysts to their graduate and career success so that she can develop retention models that may improve the college persistence of women and minority students in STEM programs. She also volunteers with a local non-profit to ensure young girls 3rd-8th grade are exposed to STEM disciplines. In addition, she teaches and develops STEM curriculum for high school and collegiate students. Her ultimate goal is to help more young girls and minorities become interested in STEM disciplines at an early age. Lastly, her passion for STEM is highlighted in her 2019 TedTalk at the University of Georgia.

Currently, Ansley Booker is the Director for the Mercer University Educational Opportunity Center (TRiO Programs) and is an adjunct professor. She also serves as an advisor for Mercer University’s National Pan-Hellenic Council and Golden Key International Honor Society. Additionally, she co-owns B& B Designs, LLC, an event and design business. Lastly, she is a recipient of Georgia Southern University’s 40 under 40 Alumni Award as well as the STAR Award from Mercer University’s Student Affairs Division in 2016. —

Jarrod McCarthy Jarrod is a Community Developer for the River Valley Regional Commission, which serves 16 counties and their local governments. He composes grant applications that fund infrastructure for low income neighborhoods or incoming or existing businesses. He is also the Mobility Manager for the same area. In this role, Jarrod helps local governments and their populouses access transportation programs, works to establish new systems, expands existing systems, strategically coordinates programs to reduce matching costs, and generally seeks to address any needs or opportunities he can be of service with. Jarrod also oversees a Department of Human Services (DHS) contract within the same River Valley region. The program provides job-based trips through DFCS and Senior Center trips via the individual facilities, etc. He was also involved with the establishment of the Pataula Regional Transit System that serves Quitman, Randolph, and Stewart counties. Jarrod obtained his Master’s Degree in Sociology from the University of Georgia and currently resides in Americus, GA. He has been employed by the River Valley Regional Commission for nearly 14 years.—

Michael Threatt Age: 37 Hometown: Sylacauga, AL
Michael made history by becoming the fourth and first African American to serve as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sylacauga Housing Authority (SHA). He is also the Founder, President and CEO of the Corporation to Develop Communities of America (CDC of America) which specializes in rural affordable housing and community economic development. He has provided oversight and management for PHAs in multiple leadership positions in Tampa, Florida, Birmingham, Alabama, and now in Sylacauga, Alabama. Michael is a Next Generation CEO that created the “Housing Authority of Tomorrow” model. Overall, he has improved the efficiency and effectiveness of public housing programs. Michael has made it one of his top priorities to ensure that the Sylacauga Housing Authority is the premier leader in Rural Affordable Housing. He is changing the stigma and reputation of the housing authorities by totally transforming and changing the image of public housing by developing affordable housing that is indistinguishable from market-rate housing. Now at the age of 37, he is leading the charge for the paradigm shift of housing authorities becoming social entrepreneurs.
Michael is a member of the Sylacauga-Talladega Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated; Sylacauga Habitat for Humanity Site Selection Committee; Awardee of the Inaugural Class of Central Alabama 40 Under 40 in July 2018; and a graduate of the 2019 Leadership Sylacauga Class. Michael is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Public Administration (DPA) with a focus in Public Administration and Public Policy at West Chester University. He earned his Master’s in Criminal Justice Administration with a focus in Public Administration from the University of South Florida (USF). Michael earned his Bachelor’s in Psychology with a double minor in Sociology and Biology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and he holds an Associates in General Studies with a focus in Psychology from Lawson State Community College (LSCC). The energy, passion, and vision he brings to his work are key aspects of why Michael is considered one of the best and brightest in the public and affordable housing industry; and a rising leader in his field.—

France is a true definition of a go-getter. As the President of Stewart County High School and Stewart-Quitman High School (SCHS-SQHS) Alumni Committee in Stewart County, she has inspired a community to reach, serve, and build an emotional connection between the alumni, and current high school students within six years. France earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 2004 at Albany State University (GA). She earned an associate degree in Funeral Service in 2005 at Gupton-Jones College. In 2016, France earned a master’s degree in Public Health at Argosy University. Not only is community involvement a personal mantra, France also enjoys serving as the Anesthesiologist Assistant Educational Program Coordinator at South University in Savannah, Georgia. She is also a healthcare management adjunct instructor online at Daymar College located in Clarksville, TN. France enjoys interacting with students daily. She is a beacon of light for families after the loss of a loved one as well, for she also serves as a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer with Bynes-Royall Funeral Home, in
Savannah, Georgia and T.V. Williams Funeral Home, Richland, Georgia. She enjoys traveling with her husband, seven-year old son, and their two dogs. France manages and directs a team of dedicated alumni members to give back to the community. Through her leadership, the SCHSSQHS Alumni Committee raised $19,000 annually. France works tirelessly to ensure that no students are left behind and the SCHS-SQHS alumni legacy lives forever. France has received several accolades for her leadership and contributions. In 2014, she was honored by the Stewart County School System for Outstanding Services for her exemplary leadership as president of the SCHS-RQHS Committee. She also received the Above and Beyond Award from J. C. Lewis Primary Healthcare Center in 2016. France is also a dedicated and active member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Savannah Alumnae Chapter and Epsilon Nu Delta Fraternity. She lives by the African proverb, “each one teach one.”—

Shannon Atkinson
Hometown: Tifton, GA Age 39 Shannon never meets a stranger and goes out of his way to help others. He has a strong Christian faith and plays a key leadership role in the First Baptist Church in Tifton. He is employed by the United States Department of Agriculture in Tifton, Georgia at the Crop Genetics and Breeding Research Center as an Agricultural Science Research Technician. His job involves participation in all phases of the genetic improvement of peanuts from the field to the greenhouse to the laboratory. He also travels to Puerto Rico annually to support the harvesting of peanuts there and to ensure appropriate procedures are followed for research. Working with USDA in

peanut research, Shannon is dedicated to his profession, as witnessed by Dr. Corley Holbrook, Research Geneticist. He is a fine young man who works hard, plays hard, loves life, never expects recognition, and easily sees the good in others. Shannon is one of those people who give 100% of whatever they do, expecting nothing in return. Shannon is originally from Cuthbert, Georgia and is married to Ann Marie Goodman, also from Cuthbert, and they have 3 children, “Jaden” Marie, 11, “Madelyn” Ruth, 8, and infant son, Kenneth Bowen “Bo,” 6 months. Shannon is a member of the Tifton First Baptist Church where he is the Men’s Ministry Leader. He has most recently, March 2019, planned and implemented a Men’s retreat with well over 100 men participating. He is a greeter, usher and discipleship leader. In addition, he is one of the drummers in the contemporary church service. Shannon volunteers with the Celebrate Recovery Program, which is a

What you do matters. @RuralLeaderMag Christ-centered12 step recovery program for anyone struggling with hurt, pain or addiction of any kind. He helps serve meals and plays in the band for their music service. Shannon also is involved in the Road Less Traveled non-profit program which is a locally based program with the purpose to promote human development through Christ and promote Community Unity. This program offers a variety of faith-based outreach activities for those less fortunate and to the general public. Following the first tornado that hit Albany several years ago, Shannon, with a high school classmate from Cuthbert (Tarris Bivens) set up at the Civic Center and fed folks who had been displaced by the storm. Most recently, following Hurricane Michael in October 2018, Shannon brought a team of men to Cuthbert and spent a weekend cleaning up yards of the elderly and/or disabled. Not only does Shannon volunteer of his time locally, but he has been on
3 mission trips. The first was to Uganda four years ago to serve the Canaan Children’s Home in Jinja, to work with youth in the Muslim slum in the capital of Kampala, and to provide information to farmers. Specifically, their team built a playground at the orphanage’s school, helped with wiring the school for electricity and built a fence around the school yard. They held a one-day youth conference in the village where the orphanage is located and one in the slum area of the capital. Shannon was humbled by this experience and fell in love with the children. In 2018, Shannon went to Jamaica last year and most recently, in February 2019, he went back to Jamaica, taking his 11-year old daughter Jaden, with him. She had a wonderful time and was shocked at the living conditions and the lack of necessities at the infirmary. —

Amber Bell
Hometown: Albany, GA Age 29 Amber developed an early interest in community health, environmental hazards in communities of color and human rights issues. She grew up in Albany, Georgia where she saw the implications of chronic and persistent poverty. As a result, in college Amber majored in Health Sciences with a concentration in Community Health, she went on to get a Masters in Public Health with a minor in health policy. Currently, she is the Program Director for the Southwest Georgia Project for Community Education, Inc. based in Albany, Georgia, where she works in 14 southwest Georgia counties to improve food access for vulnerable communities, support

family farms and work to advance human rights. Amber was selected in 2015 by the Center for Social Justice and Inclusion as a Maya Wiley Fellow where she focused on building strong, inclusive, and sustainable food economies. She was selected, in 2016, as George Washington University Food Policy Leadership Fellow where she learned how to write and advocate for policies that support local food systems and consumers. In all of her work, Amber has been passionate about increasing access to foods and other opportunities for children of color, especially those in underserved, disinvested communities.—
Ken Blair
Hometown: Warrenton, GA/ Macon, GA Age 31

Ken Blair has positively impacted the Middle GA community through his economic, social and educational pursuits. Ken has been in Macon, GA for ten years. As a native of Warrenton, GA, Ken attended Mercer University where he earned a Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Leadership and minor in Education. After graduating from Mercer in 2013, Ken loved and enjoyed the Mercer community so much he decided to make Macon his second home. Only a few months after graduation, Ken was hired as an Associate Director in the Office of Student Financial Planning. In 2016, he earned a Master’s in Business Administration from Brenau University and was inducted into Golden Key Honor Society in 2018. He currently serves as the advisor to Minority Mentors Program, Women of Minority Empowering the Neighborhood (W.O.M.E.N.) and Men Empowering the Neighborhood (M.E.N.), the National
Pan-Hellenic Council, student organizations. Lastly, Mr. Blair is serving as an instructor for Mercer’s UNV 101 firstyear student experience course for incoming freshman where he was nominated for the 201819 Excellence in Advising Award. In addition, Mr. Blair is the Academic Coordinator for the Mercer University’s Upward Bound Program. The Upward Bound program provides fundamental support to students in their preparation for college matriculation. It provides opportunities for participants to succeed in their precollege performance and ultimately in their higher education pursuits. The program serves high school students from low-income families, high school students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree and low income, first-generation military veterans, who are preparing to enter postsecondary education. The goal of Upward Bound is to increase the number of students that graduate from high

school and matriculate into an institution of higher education. Ken has increased the participation rate of Upward Bound students here in the Middle GA area to 100 percent. Many of his students have become Valedictorian, Salutatorian and received top honors in their graduating classes including countless awards and scholarships. His goal has been to assist students as they prepare for the next chapter of their lives through postsecondary education preparation and financial literacy. As a former Associate Director for Mercer University’s Office of Student Financial Planning, Ken is an empowerment speaker and advocate for financial literacy and college readiness for students of all ages. Ken loves inspiring and motivating all students by providing mentorship and encouragement that focuses on their financial wellness. In addition, Ken is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., where he served as the 2016-2018 secretary and

committee chair for the back to school supply drive, scholarships, Greek revival, and Brotherhood community service and social events. He now serves as the historian for the chapter and will be the chapter’s Vice President for the new term. Ken also serves as the historian for the Macon-Middle GA National-Pan-Hellenic Council, Inc. Ken is an active member of the House of Hope Macon, where he serves as the coordinator for the College, Worship & Arts, Prayer, and Men’s Ministries. In addition to his community efforts, Ken volunteers at the Macon Outreach Center, United Way of Central GA, and the Middle GA Rescue Mission. He currently owns a photography business entitled KB Inspired Photography. Mr. Blair is also the Founder of the Greeks from Warren County- an organization created for Greekaffiliated alumni of Warren County Schools. The organization strives to provide support to the local community through a yearly

contribution of school supplies, mentoring and a scholarship fund for college-bound seniors. Ken’s passion in life is to help all reach their full potential in life. Each one, teach one.—
Malanie Burnett
Hometown: Cuthbert, GA Age 30 Malanie is the Director of the AndrewServes Servant Leadership Program at Andrew College. She leads a group of 20 youth scholars in developing leadership skills and in understanding what it means to be a servant leader in rural South Georgia. She has worked with this program for going on 9 years and has developed numerous projects and activities that have helped both her students and her community grow.
Malanie earned a bachelor’s degree in Southern Studies from Mercer University in 2011. She earned a master’s degree in English from Georgia Southwestern State University, where she graduated magna cum laude. She is certified in the Phi Theta Kappa National Honors Society curriculum to teach the Leadership Development courses at Andrew College. Malanie also completed the Georgia Academy for Economic Development and the Adult Leadership course through University of Georgia Cooperative Extension and has led multiple sections of the Youth Leadership course through UGA Cooperative Extension. Malanie also serves on the board of the Peanut Proud Festival in Blakely, Georgia. Malanie created the March Milk Jug Madness campaign and implemented it at the local elementary school for several years. AndrewServes’ youth leaders speak to elementary school students about the importance of recycling and encourage students to bring in milk jugs during the month of March. Each year, stu-

UNDER FORTY dents recycled over 2,000 jugs. An ice cream party is given at Andrew College to the grade that recycles the most milk jugs. During the party, students enjoy games and activities using recycled milk jugs. The March Milk Jug Madness Campaign is also an opportunity for the local recycling center to earn money. Malanie’s is the president of the Rotaract Club and a member of Rotary Club and Pilot Club; she also serves as the chair of the recycling committee for Keep Randolph Beautiful, which is an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful. She serves on various committees, including the Chamber of Commerce tourism committee, the 4-H Advisory Committee, and chair of the Community Pride committee through Economic Development. Currently, Malanie lives in Cuthbert with her husband and their two young sons. —

Tabitha N. Clay Hometown: Slyvester, GA Age 34
Tabitha is a 2003 graduate of Dougherty Comprehensive High School (GA). She earned an associate degree in nursing at Darton College in 2010. Tabitha earned a BSN in Nursing at Brenau University in 2019. She enjoys being a nurse because it gives her the opportunity to serve others. As nurse, Tabitha serves all kinds of people with various needs. She enjoys not only serving others, but also teaching. She served as a travel dialysis nurse for several years. Tabitha is currently employed with Fresenius Medical Care North America in Albany, Georgia as a Home Therapies Registered Nurse. —

Camille Colson
Hometown: Boyton Beach, FL/ Conyers, GA Age 33 Camille Colson was born to Constance Colson and Anthony Moore June 2, 1985 in Boynton Beach, FL. At the age of five, she and her mother relocated to Decatur, GA. As a child, Camille was inquisitive and helpful by nature. A graduate of the infamous Southwest DeKalb High School, Camille decided to further her studies at the Unsinkable Albany State University (GA). In 2007, she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Albany State University and later earned a Master of Arts degree in Forensic Psychology in 2011 from Marymount University. In 2015, Camille earned a Master of Science in Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling from Mercer University. She is licensed
by the State of Georgia as a Professional Counselor and Nationally Certified as a Clinical Rehabilitation Counselor. Camille has worked with various marginalized populations, such as offenders, sexual offenders, sexual assault victims, and Veterans. In 2018, she opened a private practice in DeKalb County, GA called New Opportunities Waiting (N.O.W.), LLC. The aim of N.O.W., LLC is to instill hope, to coach, and to equip clients with the ability to achieve wholeness. The mission is to help each client reach his or her greatest potential. Camille is passionate about serving others and strives to empower clients to gain the insight, knowledge, and skills necessary to bring resolution to their life’s challenges. In her spare time, Camille’s hobbies include reading, shopping, and traveling. Camille serves generations within her community through mentorship programs and service projects with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. and her church, Metro Evangelistic Outreach Center in East Point, GA. Hometown: Birmingham, AL Age 36 Shawndrika L. Cook is a native of Birmingham, Alabama and an alum of the University of Alabama and Jacksonville State University (MS). She currently holds a masters and Educational Specialist degree in Clinical Mental Health, as well as a professional licensure in counseling. Shawndrika currently works at Mind of Christ International Church, where she serves as the mental health consultant and executive assistant to Pastors Derrick and Trish Morrissette. Aside from her ministry duties, Shawndrika also

services as the Limitless Retreat Coordinator for Empowered to Conqueror Ministries and the CEO of #DearFutureHuband365 (DFH365) and the Refreshing Opportunity Center (R.O.C.). Shawndrika is passionate about marriage, ministry, and mental health. Shawndrika desires to unite ministry and mental health together to provide a better understanding of what deliverance looks like after the altar call. As the CEO of R.O.C., Shawndrika developed a mentor program fostering education, support, and network and practicum opportunities for graduate students of color in the counseling field. Her motto is embedded in Proverbs 11:25b, “Those who refresh others, shall be refreshed.” Shawndrika believes that if the church becomes more open, supportive, and educated about mental health then others will be open to seeking help for mental health issues.—

Lisa Fields
Hometown: Jacksonville, FL Age 32 Lisa Fields, one of the world’s most sought-after female apologist, combines her passion for biblical literacy with her heart for sharing God’s love to all those she meets. During college at the University of North Florida, she took a New Testament course that shifted the trajectory of her life. As a pastor’s kid, she was familiar with church, the Christian faith, and the importance of reading the Bible. She was also planning a career as a stockbroker in New York City. On the first day of her New Testament class, the professor declared, “I’m going to change everything you thought you knew about Jesus.” Throughout the course, her professor
focused on biblical contradictions and textual criticism. In every sense of the matter, Lisa’s faith was challenged – she was forced to rethink what she believed and decide if she would keep believing or abandon her faith. After Lisa graduated from University of North Florida with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and Religious Studies in 2013, she continued to wrestle with biblical concepts and her faith while working in the financial services industry. Each day she wrestled with God’s call on her life to further her education to better defend the faith. She earned a Master of Divinity with a focus on Theology in 2015 from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. Her time in seminary propelled her into her calling as an apologist. During her last year of seminary, her passion to teach others how to defend their faith was clear. It was then that the Jude 3 Project was birthed. As Founder and President, Lisa’s primary mission for the Jude 3 Project is to help the Black Christian community know what
they believe and why they believe. In August 2018, the Jude 3 Project hosted its first annual Courageous Conversations in Chicago, Illinois. This first-of-its-kind, national event brought together 24 prominent black scholars and pastors from different theological backgrounds to discuss justice, authority of the scripture, sexuality, and gospel preaching. This historic event was held at Progressive Baptist Church and was aired on the Impact Network. Lisa speaks regularly at evangelism, apologetic, and biblical literacy events at various universities and churches across the country. She has been described as a dynamic, relatable teacher - she is able to break down hard-to-understand theological concepts in a way that teaches and equips her audience to defend their faith in their everyday lives. Lisa has received several honors, including been recognized in Christianity Today for her work as an apologist in the African American community. In addition to her work in ministry, Lisa co- hosts

a secular podcast for young professionals called Brunch Culture. —

Albany Technical College (GA). In 2015, Tamara earned an Associate of Applied Science from Albany Technical College (GA). Hometown: Decatur, GA Age 35 Alexandria is a Forensic Biologist at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). She was born and raised in Decatur, GA and knew by her senior year (2002) at McNair High that she wanted to work in the field of forensics; and by the end of her first semester in college, she knew that she wanted to work at the GBI in the Biology Department. In May 2007, Alexandria earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Science and a minor in Chemistry from Albany State University (GA). She began her professional career as a Laboratory Technician in the Biology Department at the GBI in October 2008 and was soon promoted to a scientist position as a Se-

rologist in April 2009. She then went on to further her knowledge and skills, getting trained in DNA Analysis, making her a fully trained Forensic Biologist, working serology and DNA cases. As a Forensic Biologist, she analyzes evidence submitted by local and state agencies for the presence of blood, semen, saliva, and performs DNA testing and analysis on evidence. She has testified as an expert witness over 65 times in State and Federal courts. Alexandria offers advice on degree choices and career paths. Ms. Gordon speaks to both high school and college students about the forensic science field, the education required, and her experiences. She also participates in college and career fairs. She remains in close contact with her professors at Albany State University. Most recently, Alexandria was inducted into Delta Delta Epsilon, an honor society for students and professionals of forensic science through the Theta Chapter at Albany State University.—

In 2008, she earned a master’s degree at Argosy University in community counseling. Torri enjoys creating and customizing innovative strategies and programs to meet organizational needs became a hit in the nonprofit and business sectors. She has worked with such nonprofits as Hands On Atlanta, YWCA, Georgia State University, National Sales Network, and the Arthur M. Blank Foundation. In 2009, Torri launched the YouthNique Nonprofit & Business Consulting Firm to assist start-up and existing organizations

Torri’s personal struggles with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and the traumatic suicide death of her uncle, Reginald Williams Sr., in 2013 led her back to the mental health sector. She wrote a stage production titled A Song For You inspired by the late Donny Hathaway, who died by suicide in 1979, as a tribute to her late uncle and others who lost their lives to suicide. The stage production debuted in May 2014. A film adaptation of A Song For You, Directed by Torri Hicks, is currently in production. In 2015, Torri launched a production company, Torri Hicks Productions. She pledges to create
productions with purpose to bring awareness to the world’s most pressing needs. Her most recent accomplishment is stepping into her gifts of song writing and rapping. always enjoyed writing. Kimberly began a budding career at the wondrous age of eight penning plays and short stories. In middle school, she discovered poetry and used the imaginative genre to express her darkest experiences. After graduating from Worth County Comprehensive High School in 1999 with several academic scholarships and accolades, she attended Albany State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Not long after, however, Kimberly discovered that she needed an outlet that would allow her to flex her creative muscle, while empowering and edifying the seemingly hopeless youth in her town. In 2005, this undeniably strong craving led her to shift gears, switch paths, and become a teacher. As rewarding as it was as an occupational choice, Kimberly still felt empty. She wondered how she would ever accomplish her life goal to make an impact in the Black community, if she never left the classroom. Her yearning to make an indelible impact by reaching and helping more people propelled
her to move to Metro Atlanta and indulge her heart’s desire– writing. Kimberly ardently began working on her first manuscript in 2008 because she realized that there are countless people in this world chasing the elusive and the intangible – true bliss – just like she was. She writes for the people. Writing gave her the freedom to dive and delve into thought-provoking, emotionally stirring, and uproariously entertaining topics with the intent of changing someone’s life with her words. In 2012, Kimberly published her second book of poetry, Wet Whispers, and embarked on an international tour both publicly and virtually promoting her work. Always desiring to share creatively with the community Kimberly hosted her own internet radio show, Real Talk Radio from 2008 to 2013. As an educator, Kimberly focuses on students’ success in the classroom as well as outside of the classroom. She was also voted Favorite Teacher and Honored by numerous programs within the system. In 2019, Kimberly founded her consulting company, Lawson Learning Academy, LLC. Wesley F. Murphy Hometown: Birmingham, AL/ Cuthbert, GA Age 35 Wes Murphy is currently the Defensive Line Coach at Thompson High
School in Birmingham, AL. He was previously employed at Hewitt-Trussville as the College and Career Coach as well as Defensive line coach under Head Coach Josh Floyd. Murphy joins the Hewitt-Trussville staff after one season as the Offensive Line Coach/ Recruiting Coordinator at Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA. During his time at Virginia Union he was able to mentor a wide variety of students not just athletes. Coach Murphy was solely responsible for bringing in one of the top recruiting classes in Virginia Union's conference, which played a huge role in the transformation of a 3-7 team before he got there to a 7-3 team that was one game away from the conference championship. Coach Murphy's unit was able to pave the way for one of the top scoring and total yards per game offenses in the CIAA. Under his tutelage he provided Virginia Union with it's first, first team all-conference offensive lineman in many years prior to Coach Murphy joining Virginia

Before making the move to Auburn, Murphy spent the 2012-2013 seasons on the Arkansas State staff during the Red Wolves's 2012 Sun Belt Championship Season. While on staff with the Wolves, Wes Murphy assisted in several facets of the program such as assistant tight end coach, on campus recruiting coordinator and player development. In 2002, Giselle received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet Performance from the University of Oklahoma. There she studied under Mary Margaret Holt, Dennis Marshall, Allan Kinzie and Donn Edwards. She was chosen as a member of the Oklahoma Festival Ballet and had the opportunity to perform ballets such as Napoli, Balanchine's Serenade, The Sleeping Beauty Act III, excerpts from Paquita, The Nutcracker, Le Spectre de la Rose, and Carmina Burana. In addition, Giselle was selected to tour with the company to Nice, France in 2000 and Cancun, Mexico in 2002. Giselle was a principal dancer with Atlanta Festival Ballet for 12 seasons, performing such roles as The Sugar Plum Fairy in The Nutcracker, Odetter/

Odile in Swan Lake, Juliet in Romeo and Juliet, Aurora in The Sleeping Beauty, as well as many original works and fulllength ballets. In addition to her performing career with AFB, Giselle also worked as Director of Operations with the school. Giselle has also taught and set choreography for Henry Arts Alliance Summer Camp, The Madison Studio for Dance Education, and Clayton County School's Alice in Wonderland, among others. Giselle is currently the director and teacher at Giselle DiBlasi School of Ballet in McDonough, Georgia. Hometown: Albany, GA Age 39 Kawonda is an early childhood educator, who teaches 4th grades science and math in the Dougherty County School System (GA) at Lamar Reese Magnet School of the Arts in Albany. Teaching young children has always been her passion. Kawonda has been teaching for 13 years. She earned a master’s degree in early childhood education from Ashford University. She is an active member of the community. Kawonda volunteers
with the Federal Disaster Recovery, Habitat for Humanity, National Kidney Foundation, Raising Children from Poverty National Event, Special Olympics, and Our Kids Our Future. Donnisia is also the Founder and creative force behind the exclusive dinner series, "The Little Black Dress". Through her efforts she expresses creativity, encourages community connection, diversity and cultivates innovative concepts for social events. Joshua is certified by the Universal Public Procurement Certification Council and the National Institute of Governmental Purchasing. Since serving in this capacity, Joshua receives 90%+ purchase approvals by the city council consistently. He is also a City of Albany Procurement Policy & Procedure Trainer and a Reverse Trade Show Facilitator. In his spare time, Joshua is a role model for area youth. Kyle J. Williams Hometown: Albany, GA Age 36 Kyle is the product of a single parent household. Though he was not a stellar student, he scored a 1080 on the S.A.T. Later, he enrolled at Fisk University, where he was recognized as a top freshman. Kyle was mentored by a Fisk Great, Mrs. Persephone Felder-Fentress. He performed in his first play entitled, Fences. Later, Kyle became a prolific writer of short stories and screen plays. He also appeared in several commercials and low budget films. Kyle volunteers frequently in the film industry whenever possible. He is the owner of Broken Pencils, LLC. and continues to pursue his dream of making it big in the film industry.—
Shunta R. Williams Hometown: Albany, GA Age 35 Shunta was born and raised in Albany, Georgia and is a product of the Dougherty County public school system. She is the daughter of James and Patricia Williams, sister of Darrius Williams, and granddaughter of Ethel Roberson. Shunta also has a son, Jaxson Williams. She graduated from Westover High School and began her college education at Darton State College (GA), where she received an associate in Political Science. She then went on to further her education obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Georgia, Masters in Business Administration from the Florida Institute of Technology and Juris Doctorate from Faulkner Christian University.

She is also a member of the Greater Pines Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, where she sings in the Gospel Choir. Shunta interest in practicing law began as a child, especially from watching her father, retired investigator James Williams. While it was clear law enforcement was not in her cards, being able to interpret laws and advocate for the rights of individuals who were clearly less fortunate and disadvantaged was where she set her eyes. Even when it was evident that law school was a far distant memory and the highest hill to climb, she remained focused. As she began to apply for law school every detail fell into place and it became even more evident that she was not only following her dream but God’s specific purpose for her life. And in 2015, she graduated from Thomas Goode Jones School of Law of Faulkner Christian University, obtaining her Juris Doctor degree. After subsequently sitting for the Georgia Bar exam three times, being notified of unsuccessful passage twice Shunta was alerted of a fatal error

with the Georgia Bar Exam. She was one of 90 individuals who were told in error that they’d failed the Georgia Bar exam in the past year and half but actually passed. She now practices in Southwest Georgia in the community she loves. —
